I’ve got a hypothetical and possibly semi-heretical question about AD’s possible extension…

Your defensive reaction there, btw, is rarely beneficial to something like this. It was that type of reaction that led so many to reject Stafford. Fact is previous Super Bowls were won without AD or a dominant 3T, and more will be won without that in the future. Hopefully the Rams don't end up there but if they do I think we're gonna be ok.
I've been a Rams fan since 1984, so I'm aware stuff like this happens.

I have zero clue what me thinking it would be a mistake to let the heart and soul and best defensive player in the league go, has to do with Stafford, who by the way, I was delighted we got. Or even why my opinion is any less beneficial (whatever the fuck that means on a message board that is designed to encourage other viewpoints) than yours.

Maybe I was unclear with what I meant, or maybe you were just rushing to react based on what others have said. But, I'm looking at this purely from a Rams perspective, I couldn't give a shit how other teams historically won Super Bowls because this is about our Rams NOW. The past is totally irrelevant.

If you had taken Miller and Donald out of this team in the playoffs we almost certainly wouldn't have won it all. At this stage, and on paper, we have downgraded almost everywhere even if all the losses were expected. But losing Donald on top of Miller, Seabass and Williams from this D would take a lot of recovering from and I doubt we do it this year with draft picks.

In any case, I highly doubt McVay and Snead let him go because gathering draft picks by letting game-changers walk is not their MO, so I think this will all be moot.

If you give AD a raise while under a long term, lucrative contract you set a bad precedent. For example, how can you give AD a raise and not Kupp??

Instant quagmire.

It's not.

I love Kupp, and yes, this season was the greatest a WR had ever had.

But David Boston once led the NFL in receiving too. Prior to this season, Kupp was barely worth his current contract. Can't over react to him having one great season.

AD on the other hand has been the best player in the entire NFL for years. It's pretty crazy how people aren't seeing this is a special case.

It's pretty easy to show and prove to a player that tries to pull this that they are not Aaron Donald.

By the way, we basically gave Woods a raise once we signed Kupp. So it's not like we've never done this. And AD is the one guy it makes sense for.

Nobody is disputing that AD is a fantastic player, truly a generational talent. That’s obvious.

But that’s not the damned issue. We’re flunking a logic test here.

The real issue is whether Rams should tear up a lucrative contract with 3 years remaining for a player that is probably slightly past his peak. And invest the saved money in bringing in other needed talent for a SB run. THAT would be in the team’s best interest, dammit.

Are we AD fans or are we Rams fans?

If AD wants another SB ring so goddam bad then he should be willing to avoid greediness and allow other players their turn at that big contract (as Stafford just did, btw).

The threat of AD retiring is absurd. Not gonna happen. Just not credible.

If AD should choose to ignore the above and refuse to report then that’s on him. Not becoming of a team captain and leader. Not to mention selfish as hell. Would be a VERY bad look on his part. His perception by the media, fans, coaches, and teammates would take a big hit.

He signed a record breaking contract just 3 years ago. Now he should man up and honor the thing. C’mon…

I’d like to see you sitting at a negotiation table explaining to Kupp’s representation that his comparable is David Boston.

Lol

As I mentioned in the other thread if this contract is causing issues for the Rams the answer is trading him. You don't tell him to sit down and stfu. You move him, thank him for the memories, and reload with the picks.

PURE - SILLY!!! Don’t know what will happen.Freaking look at the HISTORY of McSnead (Demoff).

My question is WHAT ? Trade AD99 ?

Answe is ruthless -WTF!!!

That’s you Merlin - The Wizard of all :-(. Robert Woods for a 6th,
AS99 for a 3rd , sure The name Robert Quinn just came to mind.

—You know I got Blasted & my post got name changed. My Freaking online name back in the Day was Trade SJ39.
My post when I was on this site was Trade Todd Gurley or something of that regard? I never saw why The Rams paid Todd Gurley or Jared Goff, & then didn’t give AD99 the same respect.I always thought The Rams should have played hard on Todd Gurley. Why not make him hold out at least a Freaking week ? It’s not like The Rams needed him in training camp. Goff ? Yes!! It’s a QB league & signing a player like Wolford means a lot in that sense. (I can go back to NFL History) . Looking just back to Todd Gurley as a Rams Fan I was upset at the signing & what AD99 went through for 2 Off Seasons!! One with Mcvay & another without. Mcvay & Demoff LOVE there Players.poor Veronica & been waiting for it to happen. You can commit & Love, but the question is how long will a marriage of a Player last ? Meaning a Ram. We can go back to the History of Rams & contracts.I’d say get a prenup & cash upfront. That bonus money guarantee counts.
POINT Being AD99 has Been ABOVE & BEYOND!! I don’t know of a RAM that has gotten or Deserved that

R.E.S.P.E.C.T than AD99

My Old Post was TRADE Todd Gurley. Then all of a sudden it was going to be cut Todd Gurley.

The reason for the post was getting value for a player who wasn’t going to live up to his contract.

WTF Merlin ? If I got blasted back then for a post that got changed. Then this comment is sort of Ridiculous. Just saying AD99
has been an ultimate Ram.

I’ve seen post here that have treated AD99 like he deserves the WORLD.

I’m just saying it is SAD AD99 is the one who gets put in a holdout situation. I’ll agree with Merlin that that could be The Best was is to trade AD99 ? My question though would be what the Lockeroom would look like ?

Example would be who means more ?

AD99 or Cooper Kupp ? I’d say

Woods was #1 for Goff. Kupp is #1 for Stafford. Kupps full potential wasn’t going to be met until he played with a QB that could effectively check down and find him. Kupps hands, route running, YAC and intelligence were above ANY other WR last year. If he were faster and a high point WR he would have had 2300 yards and 20 TDs (not a knock just acknowledging there are other faster more lethal high point WRs in the NFL). Kupps 2021 success should continue as long as he plays with a QB like Stafford. Bruce is my all time favorite Ram WR but another 2 years of Kupp might challenge that.

I think he is looking for more guaranteed money. Add 3 years to the contract. Load up the cap hit on the back end making him the highest paid. cut him or renegotiate again when the cap hit is to big. It really is all about the cash Kronke wants to pay.

No one is flunking a logic test if they're talking about giving Donald a raise.

The Rams won the Super Bowl with 40+ million in dead cap. Logic would tell you that valuing the cap above all else is misguided.

Much like Spock had to learn that logic wasn't enough to process group dynamics and leadership, the Rams have already learned that this whole roster building thing contains an element of alchemy. Keeping your main catalysts happy is important.. and how you treat someone like Donald also says a lot about the organization to others.

Donald signed his contract 4 years ago and has manned up a bunch.

Come on.

A Spock reference and the use of Alchemy in one sentence of a post on a football forum.

I don't know whether to give a Thread-Winner-Trophy, or put you on my Ignore List.

I am leaning towards BOTH!

If Donald was willing to play the remainder of his contract at his current salary I would be all for it. The problem is I don’t think AD feels like he is being fairly compensated. I tend to agree that he isn’t being fairly compensated for what he brings to the table. Donald is the best player in the league. His salary should reflect that. I would rather the Rams have Donald while trying to squeeze in other players than not having Donald. He’s just too good and I feel like he will perform at a high level for the next few years. Pay the man.

These 3 players on the Rams will make a combined $100 million in 2024

A closer look at the future salary cap and why it makes it so important for L.A. to keep Sean McVay

Sure appears to me that they have paid the man:wow2::thinking:

The amounts of money being thrown around is just insane. AD already has a contract making over 20 mil a year. If he thinks he deserves more trade his ass. To a bottom feeder like the Jets or Texans for multiple 1st rounders so Rams can get a couple of top ten players in the draft.

Saleries are so high they've pushed tickets to games out of reach for regular Joe's like me. Playoff or SB ticket? Cheapest at last SB was over 6 grand.

Blows my mind that every time a position player gets a top contract other players who think they are better at that position clamor for a re-structure to top it.

The current contract insanity is ruining the game. (for me it is).

Tory Holt should be in the HOF

My point would be of your counter to your post. Not sure what The Rams offense will look like or how many catches Kupp will have ? TD’s, yard’s extra. The last was a freak season.I don’t see that happening again either from him.

AD99 will be a Holdout. He will play his hand & stay in Pittsburgh until the end of training camp like he did 2 years in row.

He works so hard & likes to stay home ? SJD69 is gone & that was his Dawg.. Eric Henderson has a lot of young players to groom. Greg Gaines & Robinson will have to take more of a Leadership role.

That is my prediction is AD99

Agree. What i’d like to see is acknowledgement from players that getting paid more than other players earlier in their career allows them to save and invest a shit ton more than the Johnny come latelies. Egos trump logic and gratitude with many of todays NFL players. I like adding incentives and moving the balance of contracts to guaranteed $$ but god dammit unless you are in a contract year honor the huge contract you signed 4-5 years ago that set you and the next 4 generations of your family up for life. I think Stafford is an example of doing it right. Now get off my lawn you damn delinquents all hopped up on that wacky weed and hooch.

The players are the product and have a limited time to make all they can.
When the market changes as much as it has AND you have absolutely lived up to your previous contract value and can make the argument that your worth on the open market would be much, MUCH higher, I really have zero problem with wanting more money.
Donald signed his deal in 2018. It wasn't just one or two years ago.
