Normally the draft class would be a blip vap wise, but that is when we already had 51 players under contract. The last I looked we still only had something like 43 or 44 players under contract. Our final 8 draft picks are very low, so I'd venture to say that the OTC fan is closer to the truth. However, most teams prefer to carry a CAP 'cushion' into the next season as insurance against potential injury replacements, something up to about $4/5 Mil. seems logical. jmo.
So you consider yourself a coach ? Don’t know how you don’t see any upside.I think they’re both ascending players. Then again we still haven’t even seen what the roster is going to look like.Agreed, but he was better then Derion Rayshawn Kendrick.
And, the USFL may have a lot to offer too! Go get'em Snead!I heard we've had 3 scouts at every XFL game, so my guess is that's the plan. Snead continues to set the standard for innovation amongst NFL front offices.
We have no money.
Spotrac says we have 11.257 mil
We have 44 signed players
We have to pay the rookie class but the only rookies who will count against the cap are if they fall into the top 51.
Right now, that would be 7 of them.
But rookies don't get signed until May or June. Actually after UDFAs are signed.
So 'theoretically' we could sign two or three 'actual' free agents, possibly 4 as long as we leave enough money for an emergency and only the first 3 or 4 picks would count against the cap (2 mil?)
It's really not as bad as it's made out to be
My guess is they're waiting for things to kinda calm down, make a few moves, do the draft and possibly make some more moves afterwards.
Good impression. In 2021, May 3rd was the cutoff date......so right after the draft? And of course, your own UFA's don't count (Shelton).I was under the impression that if a team waits long enough, there is a date that negates the impact of any FA signings from the comp rule. IOW, haven’t the Rams used that plan before? They sign the next level of FA (nothing splashy) and it keeps all of their potential comp picks in tact.
What’s funny is that after all the bashing of the Rams’ formula for winning the SB, there are still a lotta unsigned FAs out there. Ironically, most of the Rams are being signed in the window and that DOES count—resulting in the rams once again getting several comp picks.
This is exactly it. The Rams have made it clear that 2023 is not about being competitive. Its about developing young players and fixing the cap disaster. The expectation in the front office is probably landing a top 5 draft pick for 2024.Obviously, we are throwing away the 2023 season. At least to me it is obvious.
What good is it to pay these big salaries next year for nothing?
Is AD really going to play for a losing cause? That dude is too passionate to accept throwing away a year IN HOPES it pays off in 2024.
I guess this is how you fix selling our future to win a SB in our house. Stafford and AD may get only one ring in their career.
I wish I could feel like we are at least trying to do the best we can. And likely this is it and I just can't see it.
Love our SB win. And knew we may be selling our future with the risk. Just didn't imagine this would suck this much. It is what it is.
GO RAMS!!!
Not sure about that, but as to Kendrick , he's going to have to show me he can actually cover instead of giving his man 10 yards then pushing him out of bounds after the reception. So you consider yourself a coach ?
Is it really? I never heard anyone...........not Jourdan or McVay or anyone close to the Rams say, "2023 is not about being competetive". I've heard Jourdan say, "2023 is not about the SB". Not the same thing. Think 2017. And I know.....with McVay's competetive personality.....the expectation is not a top 5 draft pick in 2024. But I get the approach, expect the worst and be surprised. This is exactly it. The Rams have made it clear that 2023 is not about being competitive. I’m a 1,000% for sure he will do more than that.IMO he is a very young CB who just keeps getting top notch experience & is going to grow as a player. Not sure about that, but as to Kendrick , he's going to have to show me he can actually cover instead of giving his man 10 yards then pushing him out of bounds after the reception.
good plan, if Stafford lives through it!Well we have the money but the plan was not to transfer it to 2024 even with the hugh CAP jump due to new TV contracts
They want to go all in on 2024 which is fine since it would have been just a little fix for 2023 to spend money this year.
Of course nobody in any organization would come out and say “the expectation is not to be competitive” but it goes without saying based on the moves that have been made. McVay is always going to try his best to compete (just like last season) but the organization isnt giving him the tools in 2023 to actually win games. Is it really? Here's what it is. A lot of guys gone out the window early. Nobody coming in. For McVay to come back for this season means he is in it for the long haul. 2024 is our next legitimate shot.
