I still marvel that Rams were able to acquire Stafford…

For the record I was including Goff in that equation.

I don't believe any team would trade the 9th pick for:

Goff plus the contract
Pick 32
3rd rounder
Late first next year

I believe most teams turn that down. Just what I believe.
And yet Eagles got a 1st and 3rd for Wentz

I think that is the bare minimum for Goff because I do not think that highly of Wentz

Just what I believe

So before this goes into a Goff vs Wentz debate - I think it is best we just agree to disagree

Goff. Blah. Blah. Blah. Blah. Blah. Blah. Blah. Blah. Blah. Blah. Blah. Blah. Better than Blah. Blah. Blah. Needs to improve on Blah. Blah. Blah. still think Blah. Blah. Blah. Blah. Blah. Blah.

Wentz. Blah. Blah. Blah. Not as good as Blah. Blah. Blah. Has better Blah. Blah. Blah. Blah. Blah. Blah. Think he would Blah. Blah. Blah. Blah. Blah. Blah.

That’s all I have to say about Goff and Wentz. And anyone who disagrees can eat my skidmarked underwear.

If I were the Lions I would have taken a shot on a QB this year. I get what they're doing, which is building the roster while auditioning Goff, but if they end up needing to take a QB next year in the draft then they have a QB clock starting rather late in the rebuild. So I would have taken Corral and parked his ass on the depth chart to give myself a cheaper option than Goff next year if I don't like how his development goes.

Last year around this time there was talk of how good the Lions would be, bouyed largely by belief in Jared, that he would elevate things. By the time we got deep into the season, though, it was poor Jared. It was how could he win games with that terrible roster. Needless to say I no longer believe in him, so to me there is a good chance Detroit is going to be drafting a QB next year and personally I don't like the way that is going to line up for them. They're not gonna do anything with a rookie. So that means they're two years out for the playoffs, which in today's league is a whole lot of patience required by ownership.

But maybe Jared improves considerably. Or maybe Brad makes a move for a QB. So we'll see how it goes.

That's fine.
But even if you set that as the value.. it's lower than what you suggested as a starting point.
And *where* those first rounders are likely to fall matter. Goff cost a shit-ton to draft.. so that trade is a significant devaluation of what he was selected for.

QBs this year are shit.
I'm all aboard with building up the best roster possible and then going all in for a QB.. either in the draft or trade.

I agree. And being a Goff fan, I am interested in seeing how he does with his roster this year.

Last year, he did not get a decent receiver until Reynolds joined late in the year and I consider Reynolds at best a Number 3 or 4 receiver.

Saint Brown is a real receiver.. but he was a rookie and it took him a while.
I expect Goff to be functional, as long as everything around him is really solid.

I don't remember anyone saying Goff would elevate the Lions. After I looked at their Roster last year at the beginning of the year, I was telling everyone they would at best win 3 games.

Note - I look at all teams rosters and prognosticate what I think they will do during the year so this is not me being a Lion fan but being a football fan in general.

Reynolds was their best receiver and he didn't join the Lions until late in the year. And Goff actually started to do fairly well once he got Reynolds. And by no means do I even consider Reynolds better than a number 3 receiver and actually consider him a good number 4 receiver. So there is that.

Plus the Lions won 3 games and Goff put the Lions in position to win a few more games if their defense held up in the last minute of the game.

Right now with everything that they have done so far this year I am predicting 7 wins for the Lions which is a step up for them from the prior years.

Yeah I like Saint Brown too but he is at best a Number 2 or Slot Receiver. You can win games with that but not be a true winner until you get a true number 1.

I did state that was at the time of the trade and I have since stated that I overstated his value.

@Rams43 i agree! Just the timing and how things worked out in our favor barely over the Whiners. We should have gotten Bill Walsh back in the day and ended up with trash for years.

I like John Robinson but he definitely wasn't a Bill Walsh

Yeah I guess trash was a harsh word. Let’s go with ‘failure’. I still hold John Robinson up high as he was my first coach as a Rams fan in the late 80’s.
