Lol..
Yes!!

The Rams are starting Taylor Rapp, Nick Scott and either David Long or Derion Kendrick... see any problem there?

The Rams have been starting Justin Hollins and Terrell Lewis at OLB.. see any problem there??

I'm glad Coach Morris has a stalwart defender on here, however I've seen enough of the unimaginative and unchanging secondary alignment. (notice no plural)

If the professional NFL players he selected to start in the secondary, and who have been on the roster for much longer than Coach Morris has been with the Rams, (Scott, Long, and Rapp) have become incapable of playing more complex and unpredictable alignments then who is to blame?

Weddle, Miller, Darious Williams, and Obo.

And.. No big.. they lost a Hall of Fame pass rusher who was absolutely dominant in the playoffs and one of the smartest safeties to play in the last 15 years.

They also don't have Jordan Fuller.. who is better than Rapp or Scott.

They added Wagner.. and that's reflected in their great performance against the run.
You remember last year you and I were doing this same dance. Then he finally changed it up in the playoffs. You said you were right that he would figure his players out. I said I was right cause he finally got aggressive and it worked. I am only bringing it up as proof that this is not a personnel driven scheme. It is his personal preference and only on occasion does he change it up. When he got here he said that he doesn't care about stats. He let us know right then. He was telling us he was going to let the other team move the ball until they get to the red zone waiting for the other team to make a mistake. They were going to be giving up lots of yards, but in the end, points would be the only thing that would matter. We all agree with a better offense, things would be different, but we don't have that and he should be calling his game accordingly.

Proof of…. What?

The scheme got more aggressive as the year went on.

And had more instances of tight coverage.

Part of all that was Williams only getting healthy in the playoffs.

I’m not sure what point you think you’re making?

Because with the right personnel, he was aggressive. Period.

Was he *only* aggressive? Hell no… mixed coverages a bunch… as defenses do in the NFL.

Morris’ defense has outperformed Staley the last 2 years.

Next.
Morris defense has not outplayed Stayley.s defense his last year as Rams DC.
That is what matters, who cares what he has done with the Chargers. He is the head coach.
Staley is a better defensive coach than Morris and he proved it his last year as Rams DC.
Should have been kept and built on that.

Bullllllllshit.

Sorry. I love Staley… but the Rams D outperformed his two years in a row.

Really AWFUL night for this bad take..
The Raiders scored 27 on the Chargers Sunday and the Rams.. with a shit ton of injuries… held them to 16.
Also.. the Rams D in the playoffs was better than anything they rolled out in 21.

I think Morris could be a really good DC if he decided to challenge the other team's offense. I just don't understand why he is so set on playing soft all the fricken time. He actually played press with Ramsey a lot last night and it showed that our defense plays so much better when playing tough like that (especially in the second half).

If not for a couple broken plays on defense last night, Raiders probably would have been held to 10 points total. Hoecht needs to do a lot better on sweeps to the left for him to stay in as OLB. Thomas did a much better job on run plays when he was in the game.

Just think, if they hold Tampa & Seattle they would actually have a playoff heartbeat right now even with all the crap they have been through this yr.

If they had beaten Tampa and Seattle, I doubt we would have been able to claim Baker.

Everyone and their brother knew that the Rams were claiming Baker so they probably didn't bother putting a claim in.

If we had been lower in the list, I feel like another team higher in the claiming process would have put a claim in.

I could be wrong though.

The teams in the top 8 picks or so are not interested in improving their record at this point though since they have their 1st rd picks...outside of the Saints. So not sure anyone would have claimed him. And if a team was truly interested why wouldn't they put a claim in just in case the Rams didnt?

In any case they should have won those games and if so this season would still not be dead just yet.

The Rams defense didn’t make big adjustments with Rapp last year.

You might want to check that.

Also… same guys?
Darious Williams, Jordan Fuller and then Eric Weddle in playoffs.

VON MILLER.. Obo & Sebastian Joseph Day.

I’m sorry… once you go “same guys”, there’s not much left to talk about.
D. Williams, 50 pff rating. Sjd, 50 pff rating. We have better players at those positions. Gaines is a badass.

Von was a great loss but wagner should be a comparable replacement if used properly, which he has not.

He's on pace for half the tackles from last year. Did he just forget how to tackle?

If you are a defensive coordinator with AD, Ramsey. And wagner on your team and you feel you have to play the softest zone coverage in professional football, then you need to do some soul searching, especially after seeing the results in game-deciding situations.

Williams was a 65.5 last year when he was injured.. an 80 the year before. He signed a three year $30 million dollar deal based on his play with the Rams.
If any of the Rams CBs hit the open market, other than Ramsey, they would get minimum deals.. or very slightly higher.

Gaines has played most of this year at a fairly mediocre level.. he's also been injured. Glad to see him kick ass this week. His PFF, again, your tool here, is lower this year. His production is also lower, per game. Look it up.

SJD was a 60 PFF last year and an 80 in 21.

Wagner is not at all a replacement for Von. Wagner is fantastic and Morris is putting him in position for career numbers, even at his age. 5 sacks. You were bringing up PFF grades? Wagner is a 90 this year versus 60 last year. Wagner isn't missing tackles, so maybe you're looking at the wrong thing.

Wagner is not as good in coverage.. and when you blitz, you take away a player in coverage. That's why Von was so important.. he impacted the run game.. hope you saw what happened to Hoecht out there this week... and played at peak levels in the playoffs and Super Bowl.

If all you can do is rip your defensive coordinator who helped the Rams bring their first Super Bowl win to LA, you may need to do some soul searching.

What is wrong with you ? What does it matter about Staley.s CHARGERS defense vs the Rams Morris defense.
That actually means nothing. You think its more about the coach, or the players ?
Players matter more and Staley was a better defensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams than Morris is for the Los Angeles Rams.

In fact. Staley,s last year as the Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator he had the # 1, that.s NUMBER ONE defense in the entire National Football League..
THE BEST.
And is the reason we went out and got Stafford. The Rams brass thought is we had the best defense we should do more in the playoffs.

Dude, year to year, the league changes. Staley had a great scheme that many have now adopted and the league is more familiar with.
He’s the head guy and his defense hasn’t been as good as the Rams.

Oh… how did Staley’s D look in its last game compare to Morris’ last game last year?

And the Rams won a Super Bowl with Morris’ D.

What’s wrong with YOU?

Morris was and will always be a downgrade at Rams DC.
We had a young up and coming DC who took over from a real legend at the position and had even better season than a HOF level coach in his first year. #1 defense in the NFL just in case you did not read the attachment. When was the last time the Rams had the best defense in the NFL ?? The 70s I believe.
Logic dictates things. And your logic of comparing defenses of 2 different teams with different personnel well, is not logical.
The Rams are going to have a good defense with most any DC.
Keep the man, overpay if you have to and keep the young duo of McVay and Staley together for 20 years.
You are not right on this despite how much you flail away. Maybe you like our DBs playing 10 yards off giving them 5 yard catches at will, I don't.
Morris coaches scarred like he is afraid to lose his job.

The Rams won the Super Bowl with Morris.

The young up and comer has put together back-to-back seasons worse than... significantly worse this year.. when the Rams are "struggling" on defense.

Logic? Dude.. you're using anything but logic.

I'm absolutely right in that Staley's done poorly with the Chargers and he's the main guy.

You don't have any logic anywhere.. you think Staley would've stayed as DC for more money? You think the Rams are going to pay a DC HC money?

The Rams were down 5 starters this week and held the Raiders to 16 a couple of days after the Chargers gave up 27.

And, again.. how did the Rams defense finish last year? Why don't you appreciate how good that was, but want to point out to Staley's regular season performance 2 years ago?
