I dont think about Goff no more.

#9 is clearly the better QB and we won a SB with him and are on the cusp of another.

I hate the Lions more than I dislike Goff.

That said the 2 balls to Cooks in the SB!!!! F

I understand disappointment in Goff. If I were a Lions fan I’d throw a lot of disappointment his way. But I don’t understand any hatred towards Goff. And I’ll use Marc Bulger as a comparable example. Rams under him were disappointing but was there hatred towards him?
I’m honestly asking - as Rams fans what’s the reason for hatred towards Goff?

Goff will always have my respect. Led us to a Superbowl. And no he didn't
lose it for us. The whole offense didn't show up. Gurley too.

Gurley couldn't. He was washed then and no one knew it at the time.

I’ve been accused of hating Goff repeatedly and recently. I stop conversation at that point. I’ve said repeatedly that Goff is a good dude.

I’m one of the objective types I think when it comes to player evaluation and opinion.

It’s year 9 for Goff. He is what he is. Can take a hit. Usually good when things are good around him. Sometimes awful when things get tough around him. Rarely great. Can’t carry an offense.

Nothing personal. Glad he’s not our QB anymore. We upgraded there. These are facts.

My opinion is that he’s not much of a leader, gets worse when it becomes more important to be better and became the weak link on McVay’s offense and is now the weak link in Detroit.

No hate. Ffs

I’ve posted the above several times here.

Yeah, I have no ill will towards Goff. It was frustrating to me that for all we gave up, he didn't turn out to be a Mahomes level impact player, but that was never going to happen and the Rams adjusted by getting a proven commodity.

You have to admit, this play is a perfect reflection of what bothers me most about today's NFL. Goff on this play, and Stafford on what seems like a few plays per game, get rocked late or in the neck and head area and the refs see it and don't call it. Meanwhile, if Mahomes gets sacked or hit a nanosecond after ball leaves hand, that flag is coming out immediately. Sometimes when he DOESN'T even get touched, in fact.

Both Mahomes and Allen (and who knows, maybe wunderkind Daniels soon will) know how to exploit this and it makes it 1000% worse to watch.

I digress.

I was there in person for the perfect passer rating game against the Vikings and also the 54-51 game. OMG! Goff was absolutely amazing and there ws no doubt we had a damn fine QB at that moment. No hate here. Stafford has that ultra rare, next level processing under pressure. With 4 minutes, 36 seconds, in the 4th quarter down 28-15 Stafford came to within a whisker of making one of the most improbable comebacks of all time in a playoff game, in the snow, to advance the Rams. Wow! I'm still in awe of his will to win.

The question is, with their current team as constructed, how many rings would the Lions have with Stafford?

And yes, I know a lot of their team was drafted as part of the trade, but work with me here.

IMO, they would have had a great shot of winning the last 2 SuperBowls.

I can’t imagine a game like this past Sunday in that environment…. If
it was still McVay & Goff for us. I would feel like there’s literally zero chance to win that game.

Anyway, I’m curious to see how, if at all, Detroit addresses QB going forward.

They couldnt have that team around him if they kept Stafford, the majority of that team is what they got for him

I don't get the hate either.

Whether we did the right thing in trading him away for Stafford is beyond debate now - even those who were most opposed to the trade agree with that now.

Goff is a very good - not great - quarterback who can really pick apart a D when he's on his game, and he is on it more often than not. We saw it happen many times here and it's happened many times in his new digs.

During his tenure with the Rams, he only had one year where he was under .500 as a starter, and that was under Fisher and the Prevent Offense, and just about any QB would have sucked in that environment. He's only under .500 as a starter for one season with the Lions, and that was his first year there when they had absolutely nothing on the roster. Goff is also above .500 in the playoffs - 5-4 - if you count the game in Seattle which he technically didn't start but played almost the entirety of. He clearly shit the bed this year in the playoffs, but last year he played very good ball in all 3 of his playoff starts - and if Josh Reynolds hangs onto two perfectly thrown balls, the Lions probably get to the Super Bowl.

In short, a bad or even just mediocre QB doesn't build a resume like that.

People in football circles, including many on this board, absolutely fucking slobber over Justin Herbert, rating him far above Goff, but what has Herbert ever done? He has two playoff appearances and was bad in one and gawd-awful in the other. At some point, your record is what it is.

I think a lot of people single him out for the loss in the SB, but I don't think that's a fair assessment when our own head coach - by his own admission - got absolutely schooled that day. Not sure even Stafford would have overcome that, as we haven't won many games with him either when McVay was having a really off day.

I'm very happy the Rams have Stafford, and although initially opposed, I'm very happy that they made the trade. Stafford has pretty much been everything his proponents said he would be. But looking ahead to the not-too-distant future, Stafford is going to retire and we are still going to need someone to take snaps. The likelihood we can find someone like him again is less than the likelihood that we can find someone of Goff's talent level. Guys like #9 don't just grow on trees, and we were damn lucky he became available right at the time McVay lost his patience with Goff. And while McVay had legitimate gripes with Goff at the time, it was a two-way street (cough offensive line cough), so I hope McVay learned a thing or two and gets his next QB the support he needs - especially in the very likely scenario that the next guy is not someone of Stafford's calibre.

Goff was great this year... he had a bad game in a bad spot.

But Detroit's defense was so decimated and weak that they had no chance anyway.

Jared is a very good QB and a nice person who has been embraced by the Lions fans. He does PSA's and seems to be involved in the community. Most of the year he played like the 2018 Jared. That Commodes game saw him play more like the 2019 version unfortunately.

I was happy with Goff as our QB, but happier with Stafford.
