agreed... lots of folks "climbing the ladder of assumptions" here. There's no evidence it was an attitude problem, ego problem, etc. and AW said it was nothing like that.
Many times in life, we assume people's reasons for doing something, but then discover some "out of left field" reason that they did that thing you were speculating about. Maybe EJ just needed to get out of LA? Can't live with all the smog & traffic? Doesn't like the high tax rates? him & his family were having trouble fitting in with the locals?
Whatever it is, he had his reasons & they were personal & it didn't sound to me like there was any bad blood between him & the coaching staff. I will say, the timing was awful -- just before the season starts??
No worries guys -- WE didn't lose a 4th, the 'Hawks did, and that's even better.
We will rally around #48 & play great Defense!

lol- always can find a bright lite somewhere? He’s not the first one & Les explains it in only his way of how he & The Rams deal with these things.

He basically always says in House & what’s best for the player & team.

Mcvay is a WE not ME coach & IMO there is a fine line there.

—I’d call it like a portal(new),but Les might think more Oldschool(not that guy) & say a player who wants to transfer. You let them go & get out of that scholarship. The investment made doesn’t matter at that point.

Les talks about grouping over the years.Jourdan ask him at Jalen Ramsey after the SuperBowl. The Rams just structured a new class & direction.

Agreed. This is like cutting your nose off to spite your face.

But who really knows. I remember when the news first came out and McVay jumped to his defense saying he didn't ask to be traded. Maybe it was Snead who Jones or his agent pissed off. I mean McVay didnt say HE could have handled it differently. He said IT could have been handled differently.

As I write this, I am starting to think it was Snead. He is the boss.
As I watch the Rams defense develop, I become less and less concerned with the Jones trade. If McVay and Shula saw Jones as a problem, then he needed to go. Shula has, it seems, everyone on the same page.

Lastly.. Jones is good.. he's not great.. and is mediocre, at best in coverage. Is he worth the angst? I don't think so. I'm a little irritated by the trade, but the overall performance of the D has me giving the benefit of the doubt again.

Once I saw Omar shoot through and drill that RB for a loss on 4th down saving the game...................................... I am good.
That guy has natural instincts.
We traded Jones for a ham sandwich, then he got immediately traded again.
McSnead saw something, and it was not good for the team.

There was obviously something going on that we are not privy to. And probably will never be privy to. They don't trade one of their better players for swap picks in the same round unless they have plan. Jones is a good player but some people are under the impression he was a difference maker. He wasn't. Sure, he's better than Reeder/Roseboom/Hummel. But again, something was going on behind the scenes and they felt it was time to move on.

I'm sorry, but I honestly don't go on Jake's podcast, even on YouTube when it recommends it. He just doesn't grab my attention, doesn't know more than some of the others, and...well, considering that, and the whole issue with Whitworth - Andrew motherfucking Whitworth, people! - I have even less of a reason to watch him.

So, you're saying it's NOT that close of a call ...

I don’t see anyone here saying Jones was Roquan Smith, but he’s far better than what the Rams were rolling out the first few weeks.

Focus on the part where he says it could have been handled differently. That is an admission that they screwed up and handled the situation poorly. In that case it seems like emotions got in the way of making a sound decision.

Sometimes coaching involves sitting a guy down and telling him where he’s screwing up.
i read that more as.... we wanted the guy gone- but now that we see what his replacements have done... maybe we didnt.

hindsight is 20/20 type deal.

Well we knew what we had in Reeder and Rozeboom and to think they would do okay was just terrible thinking on their part.

I wonder if they thought Speights would be ready for game action by the 2nd week or so and then during practice thought - oh shit we shouldn't have traded Jones since Speights isn't ready.

The Rams are learning from their Mistakes and moving forward in their pursuit of building the perfect beast. Reeder is the past. Rozeboom is the present. Speights is the future.

Mcvay sure liked Omar’s stop in OT to help The Rams win it against the Hags.
I wouldn’t necessarily say Troy Reeder is the past though. You think Reeder wouldn’t play again as a Ram !
