the logic of the FACT we may have won?... problem with attitude?... pretty rash decision?

speculation and opinion...

here's mine..

go rams

slo

agreed... lots of folks "climbing the ladder of assumptions" here. There's no evidence it was an attitude problem, ego problem, etc. and AW said it was nothing like that.
Many times in life, we assume people's reasons for doing something, but then discover some "out of left field" reason that they did that thing you were speculating about. Maybe EJ just needed to get out of LA? Can't live with all the smog & traffic? Doesn't like the high tax rates? him & his family were having trouble fitting in with the locals?
Whatever it is, he had his reasons & they were personal & it didn't sound to me like there was any bad blood between him & the coaching staff. I will say, the timing was awful -- just before the season starts??
No worries guys -- WE didn't lose a 4th, the 'Hawks did, and that's even better.
We will rally around #48 & play great Defense!

The facts are:

- Jones was traded quickly without an explanation that satisfies most fans
- Reeder/Rozeboom were an ineffective ILB tandem
- Reeder was not going to get any better. The Rams got his best
- The Rams rush defense has been better the last 2 games

Everything else is speculation.

This is a topic that requires some assumptions.

"It" could have been handled better or differently sounds reasonable. Except we have no idea what "IT" was OR 'how' it was handled. We just know how it ended.

We knew he wanted an extension and we weren't going to give him one. Did he practice differently knowing he wasn't going to get an extension? Would he have played differently knowing he wasn't going to get an extension? IE, was he protecting his body just a bit more?

Our D would have been better with EJ? That also sounds reasonable but there's no way to know that either. What are we doing without him that we would be doing differently if he was a Ram? It's not like saying our D would have been better with Ramsey last year or AD this year.

How different would the result of those first 5 games been with EJ? He doesn't play offense.

I don't know who needs to hear this, but...

Could've = Could HAVE
Should've = Should HAVE
Would've = Would HAVE

That is all.

I would call the following statement a "Fact", and, I think most would agree but some would not.

The 2024 Rams' Defense would be better if Ernest Jones was on the Team.

Would the Rams even be under the cap if they had kept EJ??

Since we will never know and there will be no way of factually proving - I would call that a speculation. However, I 110% agree with your speculation.

You just can't call it a fact. Strong assumption? Maybe. By definition, facts must be provable.

Speculation, by definition, can't be fact. :sunglasses:But I agree: Jones is better than Reeder.

McVay runs the team and anything that could affect team chemistry.

It’s s as leery bern states that it’s not a contract issue. What else is left if that’s not it.

And, we’ve seen McVay get angry at a player in the past only to say later that he could have handled it better.
Yes, McVay does run the team, but not by himself. Snead has input on all personnel changes.

Also, I'm not sure who leery bern is, but I wouldn't take their word that it's not a contract issue. Both McVay and Snead have said that there were multiple factors in making the move. It's likely that some contract related issues were a contributing factor.

You ask 'what else is left' if contract issues are not it. That's my point. It could be a number of things - an attitude issue, injury concerns, or 20 other things that only those in the know know.

It's speculation, at best, to say that the trade was due to McVay's emotional state.

Possibly it would have been. Impossible to know but it's a plausible assumption.

The comments by Andrew Whitworth that are largely ignored around here make it seem like the locker room might not have been. They also make me wonder if it led to conflict with the young studs. This last part is my speculation.
