Would the Rams even be under the cap if they had kept EJ??
Yes, I dont think that was the issue
His salary is 1.9 mill, I dont see any dead cap.
Would have been a top 51 contract, pushing out 1 of the rookie deals of approx 500k. So he basically would have been a hit of 1.4 mill and they are currently showing 3-4 mill of available space

Fair enough, but I feel like the cap situation was different when they traded him. I know White's salary is off the books now, for instance.

Yes, McVay does run the team, but not by himself. Snead has input on all personnel changes.

Also, I'm not sure who leery bern is, but I wouldn't take their word that it's not a contract issue. Both McVay and Snead have said that there were multiple factors in making the move. It's likely that some contract related issues were a contributing factor.

You ask 'what else is left' if contract issues are not it. That's my point. It could be a number of things - an attitude issue, injury concerns, or 20 other things that only those in the know know.

It's speculation, at best, to say that the trade was due to McVay's emotional state.
Typo- It’s already been reported that it wasn’t a contract issue.

This was reported. Even Jones himself talked about it. He said he was fine playing out the last year of his contract. I even believe McVay mentioned it.

So what’s left? It was personal. Some reports stated that Jones came in out of shape and his knee was acting up. Is that reason enough to get rid of the best option at mlb?

Some hinted that he was voicing too many opinions in the locker room and rocking the boat? Is that reason enough to give him away? It sounds like they didn’t even talk to him about it. Jones said he had no idea there was even a problem and one day they said he was sitting out practice because he was being traded. They didn’t even discuss it with him!?!

Les has very little say in active personnel. He takes care of the draft and works the phones for trades. McVay makes all of those calls. He tells Les what he wants. Les can’t go plucking people off the roster, and there’s no way he pushes back against McVay since McVay is the main reason the Rams are a consistently competitive team and is also regarded as one of the best coaches in the league.

Read the article. It sounds eerily similar to what he said about a year after getting rid of Goff. ( I will always like that move). He said he could have handled things differently.

McVay has a switch and if you flip it, he will eject you. I think it is all about the effort he sees and the working environment. Everybody pulling the same way at the same time. We have seen it before. I am sure it has happened way more than we know. Just to less important players.

That’s what I’m saying. Once a player pisses him off it’s over, even if it means trading them for next to nothing.

I think it would have been more reasonable to talk to Jones. Tell him he expects more, and sit him until he sees it. I’d prefer that to kicking him off the roster.

Agreed. This is like cutting your nose off to spite your face.

But who really knows. I remember when the news first came out and McVay jumped to his defense saying he didn't ask to be traded. Maybe it was Snead who Jones or his agent pissed off. I mean McVay didnt say HE could have handled it differently. He said IT could have been handled differently.

As I write this, I am starting to think it was Snead. He is the boss.

We don't know what goes on in the locker room - with coaches and other players talking to each other about expecations.

Just because Jones feigns ignorance to the situation doesn't mean its true.

I think it was a mistake to get rid of him - but the undercurrent/true reasons for it none of us know.

I think Jake is a complete clown, but Jake is just echoing what Whitworth said about it here that's not his own reporting. He heard Whitworth say that in an interview.
Ever since that incident on X when he had a meltdown against Whit - the "you never liked me" tirade - I completely stopped watching his channel.

Focus on the part where he says it could have been handled differently. That is an admission that they screwed up and handled the situation poorly. In that case it seems like emotions got in the way of making a sound decision.

Sometimes coaching involves sitting a guy down and telling him where he’s screwing up.
