No but that may not stop him from holding out if he does great this year and wants an extension.

He could do the same thing as Taylor.
Yes that's a possibility. However, Akers injury history is worse than Taylor's by far to me. No matter what RB you take on, its always risk involved. Taylor is a star player, can't say the same for Akers. However, I do commend Akers for the work he obviously put in this offseason. We'll see how it all goes down sooner than later.

Wouldn’t surprise me if we packaged Cam Akers and a 3rd for Taylor, but no way we offer more than that. I think for Taylor’s projected output, the Rams would be ok spending $12M and we KNOW how they value the position as they put together a bevy of picks and were willing to take on CMC’s contract which after this year is over $14M in 2024 and 2025

Will the Rams do it? I dunno. I have no clue.

I’ll root for whomever is in horns.

That said, I admit to being a lil excited at the prospect of acquiring a young home run hitter.

He doesn't fit with Akers. But fits much better than Akers does.

JT would get McVay back to what he loved doing when we had Gurley. A power run game as a threat our of the backfield and would really open up the play action.

From this same guy:

A league source shared that the Rams have expressed interest in Colts RB Jonathan Taylor. No offer has been extended from the club at this time, but I was told, "I expect them to check in again once more offers have been extended to see if they would have interest in entering the race."

Sounds like due diligence to me but not more.
Which is smart to me. Would love to have Taylor on our team but I wouldn't want the Rams to pay a high price either.

I'd find it to be legitimate if written to actually provide insight. But since it was total click bait, its nonsense.
Saying the Rams checked in without the context of how many other teams had also checked in, is completely disingenuous

Rams playing this exactly right if true. For them to get involved requires the price to be reasonable. They need to keep that first round pick as it might be quite high.

The other perspective that makes sense about waiting is I am sure his representation is sorting the contract estimates that come with these conversations. So that allows for him and the Rams to have an idea of what it will cost and they can then offer a frontloaded deal that has a nice bonus but still pays him in that lower RB tier. And if he doesn't like it then fine enjoy wherever you land.

But I would imagine once he sees offers are low he will focus on bonus size vs location. And the Rams are one of the landing spots I imagine he would prefer. Depending on what teams are in on this it is entirely possible we end up being his preference.

I have a feeling… not sure if I’m excited or it’s a sinking feeling… that we’re gonna get him

It’s not a strong feeling, but I have a hunch

With how much we were willing to give up for CMC, I think McVay is really missing a home run hitter at RB and even with all those carries, he’s still only 24, younger than CMC and with a better injury history

Just saying. Don’t be surprised if we get him unless Miami offers something crazy

I wonder if Snead makes the trade of the summer for Taylor?

We have mulled over all the reasons why the Rams shouldn't do this and they make sense in an arm-chair GM sort of way. But what about excitement? Adding a healthy* premier RB to this offense might be electric. I can just see Jonathon Taylor Carls Jr. ads now as the new star of LA!

We are the hardcore fans that like to see how the Lines play. We wonder if any of the hopefuls at Edge will amount to anything. Will @ottoman89 boy Hummel become a superstar? The young fans and the more fair-weather fans want a reason to be excited about going to a game. A new superstar after the Rams 2022 season might spark fan interest...

Other than an aspect of perhaps speed and vision, JT does really have any of the other all-world traits that CMC has.

CMC is a guy who can run routes as easily as he can the backside on an outside zone play... the only other guy who can possibly do that is Bijan.

I get going nuts for CMC (though I'm so glad we didn't get him, I think that was utter desperation by a reeling McVay) but I don't get offering more than a day 3 pick and Akers with a modest contract for JT.

In some ways, the McAffrey trade is apples to oranges to Taylor. Sure the 9ers gave up a bunch of picks to get him, but financially, it was low risk. He didnt have guaranteed money staring them in the face like what Taylor will be looking for. They could have walked away after last year and he wouldnt have costed a dime. So the throw him 10 mill, spread it out, and give him a low base. Only costs them 3 mill in cap space this year. That's the beauty of trading for a guy on who's on the back end of a deal. His prior team took the big cap hit. So Taylor best case scenario plays out his 4th year for 4+ mill, and like many guys in a contract year, say he balls out? (Like CMC did for 49ers) Franchise tag the guy? Sign him to a monster deal? Let him walk for a comp pick? Lots of wear on those tires already

I find it amusing NFL teams don't value RBs like they used to......until they have to trade them away!!
