Maybe I should say Put them out of reach? Put the nail in the coffin?

That just REALLY shows the inability to be objective that I was referring to. He certainly didn't have his best games against them, but the offense contributed at least as much to those losses if not more. So it's not at all accurate to say that he "cost the Rams at least two games"

If you mean he will be switched to our #2 CB, then yeah—next year.
Even if the Rams draft/trade/sign a FA #1 CB, they will have to decide if they want to keep Kendrick on his rookie deal or re-sign Weatherspoon. Given the cost vs production, I’d guess keeping Kendrick is the choice they make.

A lot of the same things, both pro and con, are being repeated about Kendrick, but in the final analysis, it’s doubtful he’s going anywhere soon.
No I think he'll be lower than our #2 if he's still with us next year. I can see Snead and McVay being a bit more aggressive in getting better talent there.

Anything is possible, but there is little chance we re-sign Witherspoon IMO. I'd rather we not unless it's bargain cheap, so to me we will end up needing to upgrade that position which leaves it open for Kendrick/Durant/Tomlinson for the other CB spots.

And the results speak for themselves here:

7th worst in pressure % - which means it's A LOT harder on our pass coverage, right?

12th best in passer rating allowed

7th best in completion percentage allowed

6th in passing TDs allowed - and before anyone gets snarky, let's add the two PIs that Kendrick got called for against SF and PHI in the end zone that turned into rushing TDs - that takes us to 8th in passing TDs allowed

That is flat out incredible given how poor our pass rush has been. Now factor in how bad the offense has been as well - which allows teams to run the ball more and gives opposing offenses more opportunities in general.

If we fix the offense, which HAS to be the priority, followed by the pass rush - our CBs are fine. Hell, better than fine really based on the data.

So can we upgrade him? Sure. Should we? Not before LT, C, adding a WR and RB, adding a QB and an EDGE.
The Rams will have the ability to upgrade the secondary and I can see them doing so next year. Kendrick will probably remain as depth.

Are you saying upgrading Kendrick is more of a priority than our pass rush (which is worse) or numerous positions on offense that need upgraded?

Or that you think we'll have the means to upgrade the 6 positions that are a higher priority and then somehow have the means to upgrade Kendrick?

When a defense makes a stop and it ends up being a penalty it is deflating for the team, especially for a tired defense that needs to get off the field.

If the defense forces a punt but it gets called back because one guy has a penalty, isn’t it that guys fault?

You seem to want me to hate Kendrick, so you can keep arguing with me about it. I’m just tired of his, idiotic, penalties. I hope he learns to control himself, sooner than later.

Let this season play out and see what he looks like during the last part of the season. He does seem to make some bone head mistakes that hopefully he will learn from. I don't think anyone would argue that his overall play at CB is improving.

The UR penalty was because of the technique he used, not because he took the player to the ground.

The second penalty, on the McVay show, the coach indicated the was because players came off the bench onto the field.

Kendrick gets has a little too much attitude and needs to be reigned in. It was good to see AD talking to him on the sideline. For a young guy he has been growing, taking some lumps but making plays too.

I see no reason for him to be getting heat from so many. He’s a Ram and should get the same coverage from the ROD rules.

Think we'll upgrade the secondary period and that alone will push Kendrick down the depth chart. The Rams will probably only go after 1 pass rusher in FA (guessing that'll be our biggest splash signing) as Young seems to be doing well as a rookie so he'll only get better. Getting a better CB that pushes Durant to #2 and at best Kendrick is the #3 CB seems extremely plausible as those 2 need to be upgraded anyways. Not sure why there's this "oh you're just going to ignore other positions" stance. Rams have stated they are saving all that money for 2024. No way in hell they go in with Kendrick as a starter if they are serious about improving the defense. Rams are going to be active next year in improving the roster overall.
