There were a lot of people on this very board that said he’d be out of football within 2 years after the trade. Some said he was just a placeholder until Brad could build a team and then go get a QB. Even last year, people were saying that Hendon Hooker was the heir apparent.

Yes, I’m absolutely saying that because lots of people said he was finished at the time we traded him. I’m sure if I went back and dug up the threads from the times of the great Goff debates I’d find plenty of posts confirming that.

I personally don't recall very many saying he would be out of football, and that's asinine regardless. But I definitely thought he was a placeholder because I didn't think the Lions would have a team around him.

What were the odds of Detroit building the team they've built, even with the picks? I mean we got more value in picks from the RG3 trade and didn't come close to the roster they've built.

So I don't think it was doubting Goff as much as it was doubting the Lions organization and their ability to draft, Brad Holmes and Dan Campbell.

His fans taking a victory lap when he has arguably a top 2 roster around a QB in the NFL is a strange flex. We already knew he could do this.....its not even a little bit surprising. He literally got further than he did last year, with us, when he had a great OL, running game and good weapons.

Bread Holmes vs Jeff Fisher.

I know Snead was there but Fisher was running the show. It could have been worse than it was. If the Jags didn't take that drunk blackmon fisher would have been all over him and the Rams would have had one more bust instead of brockers.

His fans taking a victory lap

Haha, victory lap? It's called pushing back. Everything was going smoothly until posters started shitting on him. You know how it goes when that happens.

So all these great QBs through the years with great teams around them, seen as the best qbs in the history of the league, don't get credit for their teams winning? No, they're considered great and that they led those teams to glory.

Is Goff the only qb in the history of the league that can only be known as a great qb if he can lead a dumpster fire to the playoffs? Otherwise he gets no credit by the likes of you for leading a franchise that hadn't won a playoff game for 40 years to a playoff win. That he managed to help them win two playoff games.

I'm going with he led them. You can keep your whacky ideas on that.

.
Nope.

And you “lead” teams to victory when you become a guy who, with the biggest games on the line, do special things.

That’s one of the things that separates good QBs from great ones.

And… again… Goff hasn’t won a Super Bowl and was flat-out awful in the one he went to. So, why are you talking about him and “great QBs” in the same sentence?

Who’s the whacky one?

Have you read this thread?

There's a poster that literally stated ...
Goff was 'A pansy who will fill his pants in the biggest moment with a panic load.'

I realize it's a long thread but you posted multiple times on the same page as the above-post; and did so within 20 minutes of that post.
How about this… I never shit on Goff so, using the same mechanism, don’t lump me in.

My takes are 100% fair. Haven’t insulted the kid, ever.

I got plenty of pushback and never shit on him once.

Calling him a top 5 QB when no one, outside of Detroit, would, is supreme fanboy stuff, and that’s what some on here are doing,

Rankings are subjective but where would you put Goff? Top 8? 10? 15?

We'll just settle on the fact that we have different recollections. Both on this board and in the media, I saw plenty of commentary that he would either be out of football or a journeyman/JAG who bounced around the league. Maybe this doesn't apply to you personally, but there were a LOT of doubters about his future prospects in the NFL. And even within this thread, you see plenty of posters that will only begrudgingly give him and his ability the respect that is due, often times trying to rationalize away the success he's had in rebuilding his career in Detroit of all places.

You should have no problem with what I've written above if it doesn't apply to you personally.

I really like the “tier” concept better…
But I’d have him around 10 somewhere.

I think my viewpoint in ranking QBs is driven by a “who would I pick to start a team” idea.

Stats and accomplishments put him in the top 5. If Stafford was putting up those numbers ppl around here would call him elite even without the sb. Shit yall call him that now when he has a losing record and hasn't accomplished anything outside of 1 year out of 15.

Depending on how Rodgers is viewed, Goff is certainly in the conversation for the #5 spot of current QB's
From 5 to higher is a significantly large gap

An oc who made kirk cousins relevent. Goff was already relevant before people even knew he existed. Not even close to the same thing.
Absolutely the same thing. What were Goff’s numbers in Detroit before Johnson took over? Do you even remember how much the offense was struggling?

After mahomes the next 4 is definitely debatable it just depends on what the person values. I value production and winning over everything. So to me goff is top 5 because he does both at a very high lvl.

Ben johnson didn't even call plays that season...Dan did. He didn't start calling plays until the next season and that was after building the playbook with Goff. It's also well documented goff has alot of autonomy at the line. So again, it's not even close to the same thing. I highly doubt mcvay built his playbook with Goff in mind much less took any input from him. He was already a damn good playcaller well b4 goff.
