Despite Bill O'Brien returning to the ranks in New England, the Patriots start Bailey Zappe over Mac Jones. To make matters worse, Mac is inactive for game #1 while Malik Cunningham is the backup

I predict and hope that McVay plays his starters in preseason games to get them ready for REAL games!

Zach Evans pushes for playing time immediately out of the gate and is starting over Cam by the midway point of the year.

I mean... I can at least see where this is coming from and honestly don't know how crazy it is. What might really be crazy is if McClendon beats out Shelton for RG.
It’s supposed to be crazy. I guess Bruss and McClendon were drafted on day three, so maybe it’s not so far fetched. It may be wishful thinking that McClendon pans out.

I think Shelton is center this year. Then in 2024 the line looks like this:

Jackson
McClendon
Avila
Bruss
Havenstein

This line would have two studs and possibly three average to above average players in between. That has potential to be good. A line only has to have two very good players to elevate it the rest of the unit.

They’ve got some intriguing UDFA linemen too.

Shelton has looked his best at Center. So I prefer they keep him there whether he can win the job or not. But open it up and let them duke it out, those two, and whoever wins we're better off.

Bruss needs to compete with Anchrum at the very least. I'm really disappointed in Anchrum, the guy played well in the SEC vs NFL players but hasn't done shit for us. So if he can't at least compete and make that decision tough what's he doing on the depth chart.

OG should basically be Avila at LG and Bruss at RG at the beginning of camp, by virtue of the fact that Shelton's ass needs to be competing at Center. But they may just hand the job to Allen idk.

I am also worried they hand Boom the LT job by virtue of paying him. They have routinely done this sort of thing on the OL and it rarely works out for them. Make Boom earn that shit. Tell him and Jackson that's their focus until a winner is declared, then when that happens review things. Should not take entirety of camp for the coach to make that call.

Also they'll be tempted to start Boom because then Jackson can compete at OG. If that happens ok whatever, but I prefer they prioritize LT. Even if Boom wins the job he's gonna be sharper and better if he has to compete with Jackson for at least the beginning of camp.

McVay did say it, re: competition being important. Which is music to my ears always. Competition really is the key. But I am not sure it applies to all the spots as things can swing different ways depending on how they prioritize things. At least this season we have options though, so not complaining by any means.

Good points. Jourdan did refer to the Rams having regretted some of the contracts that they had given out, when discussing the line. I can only speculate that she means the contracts for Noteboom and Allen. Aside from that they didn’t recently sign any Olinemen. Allen took a paycut this year. Hopefully that means he is not in their plans to start.

If he and Noteboom do start, then it leaves a glut of talent ( or possible talent in Bruss’s case) to fight for the two guard spots. AJ, and Avila would have to be the favorites, while Bruss and McClendon would likely be backups.

I hope they go with their best five, to me that means AJ at OLT with Avila at one guards spot while Bruss, McClendon and others fight over the other guard spot.

Either way, the Rams depth should look better on the Oline this year.

My crazy prediction was Alaric Jackson starts at LT over a healthy Noteboom.
Not sure if Noteboom will be healthy. The guy has been through a lot. A torn achilles must be a bitch to come back from, expecially for a lineman, who must push as hard as they can on that tendon. I know I'd be a bit concerned. And besides his achilles, didn't he tear up both his ACL and his MCL a couple years ago? They guy has to be getting a bit shell-shocked at this point.

A lineman with serious injuries to his legs is not a great combination.

Which UDRFA do you like The Best ? I’ll say Tomlinson has an excellent chance to start as a nickle slot.
Oh, I don't know. I just don't like Kendricks. ;)

Yeah, Tomlinson is electric. I thought the slot was Durrants, but maybe he's being considered a boundary corner at this point.

I think Xavier Smith has a good opportunity to become the Ram's return specialist, i.e PR and KR with his elite speed. He has some experience as a punt returner. He's strictly a slot WR so I see his role to make the team would be as a return specialist.

I can see Maginn making the team as a backup this year but as a starter in 2024 at LG. Maginn also gives them an option should Bruss continue to struggle. McAllister should make the team as a backup center and OG this year going forward. But he will have to compete with Shelton this year and so he could end up on the PS if he can clear waivers. They need Shelton this year because of Allen's injury history.

This was a solid draft with most likely to remain on the active roster. That would mean a lot of cuts on the horizon.
