It sucks to see CMC going to SF, but I am not too worried about it.

That team destroys their RBs. No way McCaffery holds up and stays healthy there.

In terms of actually running the football, I also don't think he will be much of an upgrade over Mitchell (who himself is quite the talent) in that particular system, which really is all about just hitting the hole as fast and hard as possible. You don't need a RB of CMC's talent level to do that.... which is why their system has been able to just "plug and play" so many RBs to great success. Don't get me wrong. McCaffery is an upgrade. But a lot of people think it will be significantly so. I am not so sure. Mitchell already runs the football about as well as you are going to see in that system, IMO. CMC will make more tacklers miss for sure, but generally, I don't see much room for improvement on the ground.

Jimmy G is a check down master. McCaffery's pass catching ability out of the back-field will give them a huge boost there. That really worries me. Unlike on the ground, their pass catching RB attack just improved dramatically, IMO.

But paying that much to acquire a vastly improved RB check-down game? Meh.

Having said that, I am not so sure the 49ers mortgaged everything here like some suggest. They had a surplus of picks. They gave up a lot for sure but it's hardly a crippled-if-it-does-not-pay-off move IMO.

Ironically, I could see the Rams having an easier time with SF now. I'd rather see us trying to tackle CMC than Deebo, and you have to think the latter will be getting the ball less now.

Like last year with our team, the whiners are all in this year. Gave up most of next year's picks except the late rounds. Last year it worked for us as we won the championship. Will it work for them? Because it will be a failure if they don't. And they would be considered to have the weakest quarterback of all the serious contenders.

McCaffrey makes the 49ers sooo much tougher to beat with their run blocking ability and pass game.

I figured that after the Stafford subterfuge that there was no way that Shanahan lets McCaffrey go to the Rams too, but I was holding on to the hope that CMC would have some say and choose LA.
Yeah, i just didnt think the whiners would allow the rams to out bid them or beat them to the punch again.

The thing about MCM is he has a ton of millage on him. Standford lived off him, so did the Panthers. Running backs, when they start to decline, as a rule of thumb, tend to fall off a cliff.

This is an over reaction to the rams succes.

CMC is already a proven back with a killer skillset. If he stays healthy, he's going to kill in that system. We need to go get a playmaking HB. Kareem Hunt or Antonio Gibson would be great right now. Both are gifted runners and weapons in the passing game.
Never said he wasn't good. Just talking about Shanny's history with RB's. If CMC stay healthy he could be great.

Rams blew him the fuck up. Whatever
No offense, but 5.3 yards per cary against us is not getting blown up. 148 yards from scrimmage is something we needed. Now we have to face it twice a year. And let's be real, the 49er's have a much better offense and OL than Carolina.
This trade hurts us more ways than one.
I love the thought, but reality says they got better and we still struggle against them without him. That only got worse.

If he stays healthy. Whiners going to use him like crazy and his injury history isn't good. Paying big for RBs rarely works but this one will be dependent on McCaffrey staying healthy. Sounds bad saying it, but I hope he gets fucked up and the Whiners trade flops big time.

I completely agree. They get the best available running back in the NFL! This hurts us big time. They didn't even really need him. This is just gravy for them and his hit against the cap for this season is crazy low. The 49's absolutely killed it on this trade. They are all in for this year. Thank goodness the Eagles, Giants and Vikings can give them a run for the money this year if we don't turn the corner after the Bye week

I'm definitely not jumping ship. There are moves to still be made and we have an opportunity to fuck up the Whiners plan for this year by beating them. Any given Sunday!

People jumped ship against Dallas, a few the week before that.

Seeing the reality that the best competition in our own division who has beaten us for 3 years, twice a year, just got better is not jumping ship.

The niners are the best team in our division right now. Everyone in the FO knows this was a bad thing for the Rams future. I don’t see them giving up 6 games into the season but they need a trade partner in order to make significant changes.

He's pointing out little Rats history with running backs. The ones that do really well for him are UDFA. The rest end up hurt busted or leaving in free agency.
Yeah I know what he's pointing out but even the other guys weren't anything compared to CMC or any other legit RB top tier RB. To put a HOF RB in that offense wouldn't work?

The suggestion that only UDFA only work in that offense is laughable at best.

It's not a question of fit or not. CMC would be good in any offense. It's simply pointing out Shanny's luck/history it's fair to have some skepticism on if this will buck the trend of his backs getting hurt. He's already very likely to get hurt then he goes to a coach who can't keep RB's healthy, same thing would apply if the Rams traded for him as well. We're no better at keeping backs healthy.

Yes. That's exactly what is being explained here.:eyeroll:

You're trying to defend an idiotic tweet just for the sake of doing it.

So anybody saying there’s a chance that a guy who has been injured a lot the last couple years might get injured is an idiot. Thank you for the top notch retort. Stay classy

Well this year we only have to face him once.....okay twice but we're already 1-0. I'll worry about next year, next year. This is one of those situations that was damned if you do, damned if you don't. If we gave up the equivalent of the 4th overall pick in 2023 draft for CMC, what good would it have done running behind a banged up OL? If we didn't....and someone else in the division did.....they get better and we don't. But like any other trade in the NFL, time will tell.

Some good points posted on this thread.

The thought Shanahan is going to use him to death might not be literal but close. A point I tried to make is, can he play QB? Jimmy G has played 25 games the last two and a half seasons (missing 12). McCaffrey has played 16 (missing 22). What are the odds they both stay healthy for the next 11 games? If they don't, then their gamble failed. If they do stay healthy, all we can do is tip our hat to them....provided they win the division. But make no mistake, this has no affect on the Rams. The Rams have to get healthy on the OL, get some other pieces back and get going. Plus, there's more than a good chance they're going to make a move of their own before November 1st.
