The Rams LOST the Eric Dickerson trade.

But they won the John Hadl and Roman Gabriel trades and ...

What die-hard Rams' fan could possibly ever forget ... the huge win in the Les Richter trade!

Going into today, the Lions were #2 in PPG and #3 in YPG. Goff was having at worst a top 5 QB season, statistically. Say what you will about Goff, but he's no
Agreed. But the trade by McVay is much clearer for some of the faithful now. Those being the ones who wailed the loudest when it was made.

And both he and McVay were deers in the headlights against the Pats.
Man idk, they had their shots several times to win that game. Goff late throw to Cook in end zone who was wide open and then Cook dropping another that hit his hands. McVay didnt coach a great game but he called one that would have won it if players made the plays that were there for them. Inexperience in the face of pressure lost us that one and then won it for us in 21.

I still don't get why it's such a big deal to some who won the trade. Rams won a SB and the Lions are clearly a better team than they were before the trade.

Are these faithful the same people that were excited about Tutu's extension this year?

Are they the ones saying Verse was a bad pick because we needed an OLB not a hand in the dirt 4-3 DE?

Are they the ones excited about Forbes becoming a CB1 or swearing that Witherspoon was our CB1?

Who gives a fuck who was right and who was wrong. We're all right and we're all wrong at times so take your wins admit your losses and get the hell over it and move on. I get it it's a forum we discuss things but to worry about being right all the time or criticizing people who gave an opinion and were wrong just doesn't seem healthy to me.

As I've said before and I'll say again I've been right about things I've been wrong about things. And both will happen again because I still share my opinion freely.

Very Well Said

I can attest to the accuracy of this statement, as I always read Old School's posts; and, he is rarely wrong.

In fact, the only times I disagree with Old School is when his opinions are wrong.

Similar to @dieterbrock and @den-the-coach ... and @Loyal ... but I almost ALWAYS disagree with him.

I think he's wrong about this.

Sometimes a team needs a particular type of HC to pull a team out of the dumps. A players coach who can motivate young men, but who ultimately isn’t the guy to take them to the promised land. Sound familiar?
No. Maybe you're talking about a Rams coach before my time. But if you're referencing Jeff Fisher here, I'll simply point out that Jeff Fisher had losing seasons every year he was here, which makes it a bad comparison.

Can confirm as one of the ones wailing the loudest. McVay was right. It's part of why I'm so baffled by the people who harbor grudges. We came out ahead. It's not Goff's fault he isn't Stafford. Not sure why people hate on the guy. He helped turn around our franchise and took us to a Super Bowl. We got rid of him because McVay didn't think he could get us over the hump. I'm happy that he's succeeding elsewhere.

We’ll hold on. I assume you do recognize them as very similar in terms of style etc.
Ex player, ultimate players coach, motivator.

Early career Fisher had equal or better success than Campbell has at this point.

To your point though, the difference being that Fisher (while resurrecting the Rams from pathetic to average) wasn’t smart enough to bring in high level offensive coaches. Campbell did that. Or was it the GM Holmes…or both. Doesn’t matter. He lost his coordinators and now they’re a .500 football team headed in the wrong direction.

Fisher Snead also didn’t build as strong a roster like they did in Detroit. Campbell gets some credit for that, not sure how much. I feel like Holmes has more power than Snead did in the Fisher years. Can’t be sure though.

Campbell has had two very good seasons in his five years.

It’s a valid comparison. I think it’s debatable that Campbell may not be the guy and the Lions should consider more of an innovator at HC.

Again, personally I don’t care. Bring back Campbell and Goff. Goff is the weak point on that offense. We saw it here in LA.
Limited when the going gets tough, and at times damaging.

Goff and McVay have both grown a lot since their time together. Jared is one of the top signal callers in the league, and they were pretty close to making the Super Bowl a couple years after the Rams did. If we had the 2023-2025 version of Goff, we never trade him at all.

Lions got much more out of Goff than most people thought at the time. I would argue the Rams also got much more out of Stafford than people thought. Not just a championship but still playing at an elite level five years in and making a late career charge at the Hall of Fame.

It was an all time trade, and especially on the Rams end. I still rate the Marshall Faulk trade as the best one the franchise ever made, but the Stafford trade is not too far below it.

Goff had a bad game. Stafford has bad games.

So far the difference to me, is Stafford was able to sustain elite QB play through an entire postseason. We need him to do that again this year.

Goff still has many years left to show he can play at that level. Though I get the doubters after that last game.
