The trade is mentioned every fucking time Jared throws a wobbly pass. We are beating the fuck out of this dead horse.

It's weird. It's like these people have to continually make themselves feel better about the trade.

Why are you people still thinking about the trade? The Rams won the superbowl 4 years ago.

.

.

What about Al Michaels at the end of the game. Broncos have 1st and goal with 2 mins on the clock. He was confused why the chiefs d weren't letting the Broncos score a td. The chiefs had 3 time outs in their pocket. Give it up Al.

.

The Vikings just beat the Lions having thrown for 3 yards in the game.

Yes, 3 yds.

Well, it shows it is possible.
A strong running game.
Ball control offense.
Good defense.

But just WOW!!!

We won our end of the trade with one and maybe more Super Bowls.
Not to mention that Stafford is arguably playing the best ball of his career this very season.
And he ain't done yet.
We would have won the trade if we'd gotten two years out of Stafford.
And they have the Super Bowl rings to prove it.

That’s still a damn good roster in Detroit. If they’re serious about a trophy they’d trade Goff, draft a QB with instincts and bring in a HC that’s more than just a motivator.

They’re going to have to pay their elite and good players. A rookie QB contract would allow for that.

I hope they stand pat. Fuck em. Their peak window has closed, and weren’t going to win a Super Bowl as constructed anyway.

I don't think I've ever seen a unit decline as much as the Lions OL has from last year to this.

I suspect Goff breaks down mentally when the coaches ratchet the heat up on him. He's the type of player who looks like he needs positive support and pats on the back, and there's gonna be times at the NFL level where you gotta build yourself back up on the fly and get your game right. His game has the same disintegrating look to it that it had his final year with us, just a complete loss of confidence.

There's a difference in being the guy carrying the hopes and dreams of a city to make the playoffs, versus being the guy carrying the hopes and dreams of winning a title. McVay knew he was the former.

All that aside Detroit has other probs as well. Their coordinators are not up to snuff. Protections aren't good. LaPorta was a massive loss, he's Kupp-like for their offense in terms of being a QB safety blanket and with it being a back injury boy howdy. And their defense is broken.

McVay getting Goof into a Superbowl is the greatest coaching performance of all time.
I don't see a need to call him Goof. But you're not wrong that McVay getting to a Super Bowl with him was impressive.

You want Detroit to get rid of the HC and the QB? C'mon. I can understand arguing for trading Goff if a better QB is potentially available. (This doesn't seem like the year to do it. But we'll see.) Firing Dan Campbell, though? Nah, that's nuts. The Lions were like us---a dumpster fire for a long time. Campbell pulled them out of their tailspin.

I actually don't think the Goff-Stafford trade is a "dead horse" subject because- as recently as early this season- there were plenty of fans and talking heads who thought there was still a chance for the Lions to "win" the trade.

Lions went 12-5 in 2023, 15-2 in 2024, and started out strong at 4-1 in 2025. Plenty of ppl were holding out hope for the Lions. Now, not so much.

Going into today, the Lions were #2 in PPG and #3 in YPG. Goff was having at worst a top 5 QB season, statistically. Say what you will about Goff, but he's not the reason the Lions are at 8-8. It's the defense. Goff isn't an elite QB, and it's unlikely he ever will be. But he's managed to become a top 10 QB, somebody on par with the sort of QB Matt Ryan was in his prime. You can do a lot worse than that QB. You can win a Super Bowl with that QB if everything clicks. I'm happy we made the Stafford trade. It has paid dividends. But it baffles me the way some folks on this forum shortchange Goff at every opportunity.

Agreed.

Sometimes a team needs a particular type of HC to pull a team out of the dumps. A players coach who can motivate young men, but who ultimately isn’t the guy to take them to the promised land. Sound familiar?

The loss of Ben Johnson was huge for the Lions too as Campbell's hire of John Morton failed. It will be interesting who he tags next year, but Campbell should have his choice with the likes of Kevin Stefanski (IMO, he will be fired) and Brian Daboll just to post a few.

The OL, was not as good either and that did affect Goff too. Lions will be back next season and would not be shocked like the Eagles did a couple of years ago to have two new coordinators who have actually had experience being coordinators.
