I suspect part of the problem is the idea that teams have their guy before the interview process really gets going. And it turns out - their guy is very very commonly a white guy. The good ol boy network, thus becomes really really hard to break into.

I don’t think that NFL owners and GMs are consciously trying to avoid hiring black coaches - I think that when they make a hire, they really believe that they are hiring the best guy. The whole thing is pretty murky in my mind, really.

But the discovery process - if this case gets there - is going to be brutal - and the optics of the entire situation is another concern for the league.
And the NFL will settle like it always does b/c it won't allow any of the dirty laundry to get out of the building...

This is describing exactly what the Rooney Rule was supposed to do. It was not to guarantee jobs to Black coaches but to give them a chance in the interview process that would help put them on the horizon for any future openings. I simply do not understand why people keep bringing up Kaepernick being black listed. He opted out of his contract after being a backup. Nobody was overly interested in giving him a starting job, which was all he wanted. He refused offers to prove himself as a backup. You have seen the circus around Kap as he messed up the Raven's deal with him. He got some money because they wanted him to go away...not because he was actually correct about the black list. Flores is going to end up the same unfortunately. It's too bad because he made that Dolphins team competitive and is a good coach.
That Flores took the '20 Dolphins to the brink of the playoffs and a 10-6 record is no minor miracle.

The man can coach.

So I asked earlier can this force an ownership change in Miami? The NFL has a new betting partner and they're dropping a lot of money on the NFL. And now we have an owner who's accused of asking his employees to throw games thereby potentially causing the NFL's business partner to lose a lot of money while giving the league a lot of money. I can see how this doesn't end well for Ross.
I doubt anything comes of this when it comes to changes in ownership. Ross is not the first guy to want a tanking season. I am sure all teams have tanked in some ways. Why be 5-11 when you can be 2-14 and get a Joe Burrow?

Tanking is one thing but paying a coach to lose is another. Tackling hard and being an enforcer is one thing but paying guys to do that is bountygate.

Suck for Luck. I would bet money that, that one was a tank job.

Perhaps but wasn't that also the year that Manning was hurt and missing? Not hard to lose games with your hall of fame QB out for the year.

Why tank a current roster that has proven it can win, for a better draft pick? Flores can come to the Rams. We don't give a fuck about picks.

Was the roster really that bad? Didn’t they go from 10-6 to 2-14?
QB driven league from 10-6 to 2-14 to 11-5. In addition their defense had been declining and rebounded the first year with Luck as well going from 28th to 21st to 9th. They had issues but the biggest was Curtis Painter was their QB. I don't care how good your team is that won't win you games.

Yep. And they will re-write the Rooney rule somehow and probably enhance the compensatory picks to promote minority hiring rule - and I’ll bet you see a black owner group here very soon as well.

Ross forced out and a group led by Jay Z and a few others take over even have a former player maybe Taylor as a figurehead.

Yeah, but to financially incentivize it?!

The concept of tanking is understood, liked or not. But to formalize it...financially incentivize it...especially now that the league has stepped in to the world of legalized gambling?!

No, they need to run, not walk, away from this at full speed.

Kaepernick was a back up QB at that point and his flaws were well known.

To all of these: Interviewing can be a source of networking. Even if Flores wasn’t the Giants choice, and it was already decided that Daboll was the guy, the interview was a chance to impress. Impress an owner, President or GM and then they talk to others in the field and tell them Flores was very impressive and made our decision tougher, you should check him out. That’s a positive outlook on opportunity. Brian seems to have a negative outlook on it.
My time is precious. I imagine Flores feels the same way. There might be people out there who appreciate interviewing even if they aren't going to get hired. I don't. Don't jerk me around. If you're giving the job to somebody else, don't interview me. It's not about positive or negative outlook. I simply value my time and prefer to choose how I waste it, not have others do that for me.
I guess this is what bothers me most. I totally understand why Flores has an axe to grind with the Dolphins and Ross in particular. Why not just go after him? If he has any proof of this I cant see the other owners supporting Ross, and if he had league support, this thing moves awful fast. However, trying to work the race angle in? I find that very frustrating, as the more the race card gets played, the less value it holds. Trying to make the league complicit in the act as well? Thats just a money grab IMO and sets him back. And the timing is for sure very awkward, why would he make the complaint now while he's still a candidate for open jobs?
Maybe he's not playing the race card. Maybe he genuinely believes what he's saying. It sounds like he's not the only one who does.

Good for Flores. Burn it down man. In a sport that is so predominately black in its player base, there is no way the "best candidate" for coaching is so often a white guy. Shenanigans are afoot, whether conscious or subconscious, and that hurts the integrity and quality of the game.

All of that aside, those texts from BB show that Giants subverted the spirit of the Rooney Rule, so they are most likely getting in trouble for that. Dolphins look to be in loads of trouble for their pay to lose accusation too.

With the Giants? I dont see how it can be construed as racial in any way. Flores had his shot and wasnt able to capitalize on it. They didnt need to interview him to satisfy the Rooney rule

You keep saying this and I'm not getting it. Are you saying the first Frazier interview satisfied it?
