If he had been on the market a few years back teams would be flying him in on their owners' private jets. This is what happens when skills erode unfortunately. Question is can he get his mind around what his role is going to be now. Because it looks like the market has spoken.

........If they signed Wagner they could shift to more straight 3/4 formations with Jones on the strong side to cover tight ends and Wagner on the other side maybe even more shaded over the Center..........

......I think the hold up as usual is money. The Rams don’t want to pay a two down LBer a lot, and that is exactly how they’d like to use him. He’s a liability in coverage........

Why would the Rams want to change the defense up that just won you our first SB since 1999 for an aging veteran MLB signing? Can amyone help me out with that decision??

Why would they go into this very HD lifting here.....when they already have built an effective defense scheme that fits almost all our signed defenders & goes with your offense that was built?

I would concentrate on getting the needed player to fill the opposite OLB'er to Floyd by trade or several top Ram selections in this upcoming draft.

Which is why I think a really cheap deal for a 2 down LB is what makes sense here.

Yeah agreed. I think he wanted to play in LA obviously, but the sticker was lower than he expected. So now he has to sniff around the league and see what those offers are and compare. If they're all similar then maybe he circles back.

I'd love to see him added btw. Guys like him are good to have even when skills have eroded. Just get him at that two-down number and if he comes in and plays like he did a few years ago then Jones sits until he can beat him out. But I expect Jones will learn from him and get better quickly and still end up being our starter who is on the field three downs. So they gotta make sure they get Wagner at that cost they want.

Snead has pulled many rabbits out of his hat over the years. I am sure he notices many options that many of us just do not see as we drool over an aging MLB'er that has been a big thorn in the Rams side for a decade.

Having salary cap $$$ in reserve is a very wise move IMO.

An OLB'er who had a good 2021 season and was released before FA began for cap reasons that is still a FA is OLB'er Kyle Van Noy. If the Rams need a veteran to go with youngsters Hollins, Garrett, Lewis, then he may be willing to consider less $$$.

The only 30 yr old 6-foot-3, 250-pound Kyle Van Noy played in 16 regular-season games last season in New England, totaling 66 tackles to rank fourth on the team. He also had 5 sacks (second on the team) and 10 passes defended in addition to a forced fumble and interception returned for a touchdown.

Van noy would be solid. He can rush the passer maybe better than Wagner and would probably be around 5 mil. Last year's pff grade was a one or two points above wagners

My update:
1. No one knows how much it will take to sign him.
2. No one knows how much the Rams will play him.

No... You'd make Wagner a one or two down player, for the most part. EJ is your three down backer at this point.

Yeah already said that throughout this post a few times. They want to pay him two down money while he wants three down money. But the Rams didn’t always run two middle linebackers on both first and second down. Plus the second linebacker was often a safety/LBer tweener.

An expensive run stuffing MLB doesn’t fit the defense. So if they pay him then it may signal that they are willing to alter their approach on defense.

Raiders: 3 reasons adding Kyle Van Noy in free agency makes sense​

Reason 1 – Linebacker help​

With linebackers Nicholas Morrow and KJ Wright hitting free agency, the Raiders need to add some depth here. On top of that, the constant talks of Cory Littleton and Nick Kwiatkoski being cap casualties only add to this need. Van Noy can fill that need, and nicely at that.

Last year, Pro Football Focus have Van Noy a grade of 72.8; For perspective, Littleton received a grade of 47.8, which is shockingly still higher than last year’s 47.1. This is because Van Noy is consistent, and gives you a little of everything.

Throughout the last five years, the 6’3 linebacker has recorded 26.5 sacks, 34 tackles in the backfield, 356 combined tackles, and has even batted down 23 passes. He’s also forced eight fumbles, something Littleton has yet to do as a Raider.

Van Noy is not only highly regarded by Bill Belichick, but every locker room he joins is impressed with him. In his one season with Miami, Van Noy’s leadership was on full display as he was voted by the team to be a captain.

While in New England, the linebacker helped the Patriots win two Super Bowls. Amid their 2018 Super Bowl run, Van Noy was particularly effective in the post-season. He would have 18 tackles, three sacks, and even force a fumble in those three games.

Reason 2 – Graham’s ideal versatility.​

First-year defensive coordinator Patrick Graham takes pride in running a system that integrates every scheme. Van Noy, who’s played each linebacker position, has the type of versatility that’s led him to excel in multiple schemes.

In his first stint with New England, the Patriots ran a 4-3 front. Van Noy shined, not only recording those 16.5 sacks mentioned early on but forcing five fumbles in addition to breaking up nine passes. Altogether, he wound up with 221 tackles, with 21 being behind the line of scrimmage.

Heading to Miami, he would be met with a different front; A 3-4. Still, Van Noy looked the same as he always has. His one year here was met with 6 sacks, 69 tackles, and two forced fumbles. He still proved to be a nuisance in the passing game, making sure six attempts were broken up.

Another highlight was found in his career-high ten tackles for a loss.

It isn’t just that Van Noy has played well on both of these fronts, though. It’s that when you look at the film, and even the numbers, he gives you a little of everything. It’s not just sacks, or the pass breakups, or the tackles. It’s all of these things. Coverage ability with consistent pass-rushing skills, and tools to play well against the run.

If Graham makes the recipe, Van Noy can bake the cake.

After the Raiders 2021 season wrapped up, owner Mark Davis decided to go in an entirely new direction. This direction was two men coming from the Patriots staff – Offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels to steer the ship as head coach, and director of player personnel Dave Ziegler as general manager.

Needless to say, Van Noy is familiar with both of these gentlemen.

The comfort in returning, not only to a place with familiar faces, but familiar faces you’ve accomplished so much with always plays a factor in these decisions. As such, it wouldn’t be shocking if the two-time Super Bowl champion had Vegas at the top of his destinations.

Reuniting with the former Patriots’ staff isn’t the real icing on the reunion cake, though. Joining the silver and black would make this a homecoming for the Nevada native.

First off I really like what EJ showed in his rookie year and hope he grows into a monster who will be around for a decade.

However, if the Rams sign Wagner I don’t see how or why they would play the lesser of the two of them because of what might happen in the future.

I feel confident that these coaches know what they are doing and will use the talent they have to the best of their abilities.

I don’t think a guy who just had 170 tackles is a liability if put into a position to win.
