I'm not.
I think Wagner is going to have a decision to make. He's going to be able to get significantly more from another team, imo, than the Rams.
He'll have to weigh that against playing for the best organization in football, in his hometown, with a chance to stick it to the Seahawks at least twice this year.

I don't know Bobby, but I feel like he'd leave a little on the table for the reasons you posted.

I have a similar feeling.
Losing Von was huge.. but upgrades to the ILB group and DBs as well as growth from young players plus a second year with Raheem could make up for that. They'll also add a veteran Edge somehow.

I sure do not see it Ram65. If Wagner is signed it's to captain this defense on all downs. It sure appears inviting to have a Wagner here in the back 8. Wagner would provide the DL with a bonafide "safety net" behind them. Just how much does Aaron Donald believe a veteran MLB'er will help him in 2022 when the salary cap ends up depleated.

I was of the opinion that run defense was very good & would be even better. It is the pass rush where the real concerns are with the loss of our starting OLB & the loss of our top backup OLB'er? Neither of those pass rushers has been replaced. And yes we also lost our start CB once again he has not been replaced either.

Rams did loose a MLB'er too but that's because the Rams did not want him back.

My idea of adding a former standout vet like Gilmore is more about needing better pass defense and leadership because edge rushing options to replace Miller are all but depleted….. time to pivot…again

I do not see the signing of Wagner to the likeness of Eric Weddle signing myself.

EW (who was previously a Ram starter) was activated off of the practice squad to play. He was signed on January 12th, 2022 to the PS.

I sure don't think the contracts will be" Weddle-like {$$$$}".

Weddle was signed for emergency measures, unluckily the emergency occurred & Weddle filled in for 3 to 4 gms, separated his shoulder & retired again

It would be interesting to see what the addition of Wagner does to the dynamics at safety. Wagner would give us one of the most talented LBs (even losing a step) we've had since we've started playing 3 safeties in the many of our defensive sets. Rapp tends to take a lot of reps at LB in 4-2-5 sets which is his best usage. He often looks lost in a 2-deep looks and I'm not sure he regains his spot there from Nick Scott (who'd easily keep the job if he was more consistent snap to snap). There's a scenario that's not likely but possible that a guy like Rapp is moved for a late 2023 pick (or a move up the board late in this years draft) this offseason with an addition like Wagner and an add at safety in the draft (and boy, I'd sure like an upgrade opposite Fuller).

Another consideration in the team build is that I doubt Wagner will play ST at this point and most mainstays at ST come from the LB core.

I prefer Travin Howard to Rapp but if the Super Bowl is any indication Morris prefers Rapp.

I think Fuller is vastly overrated. He may have a high football IQ but he lacks the physical traits to be a standout free safety.

I’ve been thinking about this. Could it be that this goes beyond contract talks? Could the Rams be discussing scheme fits and how things would work with Wagner himself? The internal discussions have been made. I think Wagner would need to be apprised of their plan and possibly be given the opportunity to have some input himself.

There could be a similarity. Weddles veteran knowledge changed the play of guys like Long and Scott for the better. Couldn’t Wagner have a similar effect.

I am once again with you on the idea that loading up with a good amount of good corners will go a long way to helping to offset the situation currently the Rams have @ ER'er.

In agreement again. The safety unit has a deficiency in pass defense talent as a whole. I do not think that Jordan Fuller would start as a free safety on more than a 1 to 2 NFL teams.

Yes, that has been the thought in here @ ROD when Weddle was signed but that one element of that, but I was looking at it from a comprehensive high overview assessment.

Depletion of cap funds from where the Rams stand now in salary cap $$$ is one serious negative effect at this point much on opposite ends from the Weddle signing.

The emergency had already occurred when he signed. Putting him on the PS was a mechanical issue that would've allowed them to keep the roster spot open if Weddle was not ready to go right away.

The situations are so different that I don't think any contract comparison works in any way.

The person who brought up Weddle ( @KA210927 )was referencing the effect of the player on the defense and players around him, not the contracts. It was about the experience and knowledge he brings to the table and settling down the players around him to play hard, disciplined football and elevate their games. I'm not sure why the practice squad situation was brought up within the context of that post.

I don’t think that would necessarily be the intention at this point in his career.
I could easily see the case being made that he's a one or two down player.
Yes, the Rams would go uptempo when the got a specific personnel grouping they liked and other teams do. But you can't do that all the time.
Teams do more package substitutions on defenses now than ever before. "Multiple" is the word of the moment on D.

Separate Wagner thought.. the fact we haven't heard anything makes me think there's a good chance they got him. I think he would've left to visit another team by this point or that we would've heard he left with no deal made.
