Cant block an assistant from taking a coordinator job
And the Rams had an OC who left to be an OC elsewhere so he could call plays, that was Matt LaFleur
If you read what I was saying, it was with the scenario of Nate being promoted to OC. Right now, sure. But if he got promoted to OC, then another OC job….

That doesnt make sense
The Rams cant just promote him, they have to interview for the OC job. They can offer him the job but still cant block him from looking elsewhere

I'm surprised the compensation thing isn't working better than it is. If I were a HC or GM, I'd be looking far and deep for the Nate Scheelhaases of the world. Why not make your team a pipeline and have extra 3rd round picks every year?
Maybe searching for the best candidate is more important than receiving compensation?

Two reasons:

Scheelhaase doesn't have to accept an OC promotion.

Secondly, even if he was the Rams' OC that didnt call plays, if another OC opportunity comes up with the additional responsibility of calling plays, the Rams couldn't block. That additional responsibility of calling plays is crucial and would negate it being deemed a lateral move.

Huh?
I’m saying they get in him asap and offer him the job immediate. Before the others can get to him.
Once he’s agreed to the promotion, that’s when we can block.
Obviously if he doesn’t want our OC job and wants to go with LaFleur (or elsewhere) he can.

Agreed. Searching for the best candidate is very important. Which is why i said I'd be looking for the Nate Scheelhaases of the world. The entire NFL community seems to think very highly of him, so when he was brought in by the Rams, he was the best candidate.

Again, if they offer him the job and he accepts it, he's not consideration elsewhere
But for right now, the Rams have to follow the Rooney rule for the OC position and he is free to interview wherever he wants
Im sure there have been plenty of conversations already about "what if" scenarios
If he knows McVay wont be giving him play calling and that LaFleur will in AZ, that would potentially make that opportunity more attractive

I think there's been a lot of comp picks for coaching and GM hires recently. McDaniel, Saleh, lions GM. I think it'll just take time. Like you said, you gotta find the guys first. But I bet they're looking.

Correct but that year that was still during our playing season.

We won the Super Bowl that year on February 13th so we were still playing. Also KOC was hired after the SB as a head coach.
That Breer tweet was from Jan 21', following the 20' season. So that was the year we lost in the divisional round to GB.
