The Baler hype has got out of hand . He doesn’t have a strong arm. He is very quick to cave to pressure some times and not quick enough to sense it other times. He has a long ways to go. I see Jimmy G level in Mayfield.

He’d make a great backup for a while.

I absolutely agree with you. Baker is not a franchise QB. Just one example being floating that pass to a wide open #12 so that the Seadick player was able to run and intercept. Baker is a great #2 QB, but sadly doesn't seem good enough to take the Rams to the superbowl. I don't know how to explain it. His face just looks confused way to often during games. I hope Stafford comes back for 1 more year. If not, we're in trouble.

Baker was with the team for only 4 weeks and played in 5 games. O-line was dreadful, his WR core was primarily backups and scrubs and barely had any TE to throw to. All things considered I'm impressed with the guy and will root for him wherever he plays next year, unless its one of 20 some teams I hate

His arm isn't really the problem. It's between the ears. He doesn't seem to be able to stay calm enough, focused enough. I wish he were a franchise QB trust me. But he's not. He can win with a top 5 defense most of the time, but that's about it.

baker doesn't have the accuracy to be that great of a starter...

arm strength is good enough, but he is not that big. and not particularly fast.

Poor example IMO. 55 yards in the wet is "floating it"? It took less than 3 seconds from hand to hand. He underthrew it and/or misjudged VJ's path.

Yeah, after seeing that 70 yard pass on YOUTUBE, that's obvious.

But I agree. I wouldn't call him a franchise QB. He can be good and bad. He needs a good surrounding cast but who doesn't? Even the great ones. How's Brady's rating this year? 90.1, good enough for #18 and an 8-9 record. Rodgers (91.1; #15), who makes everyone around him better (but Green Bay never gives him enough :sick2:) finished 8-9......losing a crucial game at home. Again. Stafford looked bad early and like a salon paus ad the last 6 weeks. Surrounding cast matters and the great ones can make good players better. Baker is not that kind of QB. But he's capable of winning if he can stay within the system and has a good surrounding cast.

Lol. He won 6 games in his rookie year for a team that had only won 4 games in their previous 3 years combined. Won a playoff game which Cleveland hadnt done in 24 years prior to him, with a bottom half defense on the road against a top defense
Now guys are railing on him for throwing to a WR crew made up of the likes of Jefferson and Tutu Atwell? Good grief

sorry but what does that have to do with him consistently throwing behind the receiver throughout the game. these were fairly simple throws that he butchered all game. the exact same way he used to at the browns as well.

he's way better than wolford and perkins but so is every single other back up qb in the league.

well, we saw stafford do that on many occasions last season and most on this board were blaming jefferson because he didn't adjust his body to a ball 5 yards behind him. don't ask me why. when the same thing happened to obj there was the sound of crickets.

People here don't realize the problems Baker faced. To say he's not a franchise QB is premature. Poor OL play, limited knowledge of the offense, playing with backup WRs, no time to learn what to expect from his WRs. McVay's offense is complex with a lot of sight adjustments by the WRs. If the QB and WR don't read it the same way the ball ends up nowhere near the receiver. We saw that between Tutu and Stafford on a deep pattern. Stafford expected Tutu to continue to cross to the right but Tutu pressed the route to the left. Lack of time with the WR is the fault. Same thing all season with Robinson and Stafford. Because of the poor OL play, Stafford simply threw to Kupp and Jefferson who he knew what to expect.

If Mayfield stays and is able to practice with the WRs and get to know how they see the field in any given circumstance as Stafford does with Kupp, you will see a completely different QB. I could tell Baker was thinking his way through the plays so his timing was often off as were his throws. The fact that he has been able to play as well as he has is testimony to his talent as a QB.

He's not a franchise QB right now but he most certainly can be after time to learn the offense and establish his timing with the receivers. Then and only then can we judge him fairly. People were premature in their judgment of Goff yet he's shown he's one of the better QBs in the NFL. The difference in Goff between LA and Detroit is the scheme fit. Detroit built their offense around Goff's skillset setting him up to succeed. McVay didn't do that. McVay assumed Goff couldn't read defenses well enough to change plays, yet he does that routinely in Detroit. In other words, McVay set Goff up to fail in that regard the same as when he dismantled the OL in 2019 then suddenly it was Goff regressing. Yet we have seen the exact same thing in Stafford this year but only crickets.

At least to me Mayfield has shown he's at least as good as Goff as a QB. Put him in the right scheme with a decent OL and like Goff, Mayfield can play well.

Thinking 4 weeks is enough time to develop impeccable timing with the WR core is a lot to ask, and when the pressure breaks the oline down like we saw, there arent any easy throws. Alas, once he's no longer a Ram I wont be so defensive of him, lol

I was not a Mayfield fan before he came here, but now I am. We can criticize his mistakes, but I saw a 11 yr veteran (Stafford) play worse and make worse mistakes in November of our super bowl run with a better oline then Baker had last weekend. Key words, SUPER BOWL RUN. Not saying Baker can take us to the super bowl, but if we're going to critique a qb, at least apply the same standards. A couple bad games does not represent a season. And a few games with all back ups and no real time to prepare... Baker passed imo.

Baker is a really good back-up but unless he has a great team around will not lead the team to a superbowl

I would put him in the bottom 10 of starting QBs

Baker does have a plenty strong enough arm for the NFL. He's just not that accurate with it.

Matt underthrew Jefferson and it was picked off in the end zone in the super bowl. Yet the narrative that night was a failure on Jefferson and his inability to track and adjust for the ball...but when it comes to Baker it's he doesn't have a strong enough arm or is not accurate.
On that throw, although Baker underthrew that ball by 10 yard, a lot of people stated Jefferson didn't even try to get back to the ball.

And I agree with them.

It was 80% Baker and 20% Jefferson. Same thing on Stafford's throw in the Super Bowl.
