I think it’s a good move but doesn’t really change anything in terms of us upgrading the WR room.

I fully expect us to use early picks for a WR and/or TE. I’m curious if we have anyone in mind as a FA…

So that's the end of DRob. Snead did sound like they had shut the door on his return the other day given his legal stuff.

I'm not surprised they went with Tutu over DRob. He was more productive in half the snaps. No real way to spin that.

I'm floored. In no way did I expect him to be retained. 10m is double what Demarcus got last season, and he started. There is no way McVay cannot use Tutu every game now.

That is interesting. He's shown flashes at times. But never long enough to make you think he can be anything more than the WR4 or WR5. At times I wondered if they weren't using him enough or if Stafford didn't have the same trust in him. Now that he's staying another year I hope they plan to at least incorporate him a little more in the offense to stretch the field. That was always his value. But they didn't use it much with him. Still, he wouldn't be my first choice to sign back.

YASSSSSS (sorta)

Couple thoughts:

- He's a useful player. He lifts the floor of the WR room but does nothing for the ceiling. I don't really want him as a WR 1-3 but he was an excellent WR 4 for us and can actually backup every spot (though he's not great at X).

- His best work was from the F/slot last year - Kupp's spot the majority of the time - I think this absolutely closes door on Kupp and my guess is he's gonna platoon out of the slot as a spot starter with Whittington along with playing snaps at Z and maybe X. One reason we didn't see more of Tutu was that we weren't gonna sit Kupp for him when he came back.

- I know a lot of people focus on Kupp and his kinda body/play from the slot but I think we're gonna see ourselves move from that. We'll have guys that can only do some of what Kupp did from that position but able to offer other things that Kupp couldn't.

- I don't think this precludes us from taking a receiver who plays mostly from the slot in the draft but I consider it highly unlikely now.

- Not loving the money the money

I mean the money is what it is....just remember what the Jags paid Kirk a few years ago. Whether we like it or not, this was Atwell's market for sure.

The part I am confused by is that IMO Atwell could have helped us LAST year. Our offense was fucking stagnant due to a lack of speed. So I just assumed his inability to block or something off the field had him in McVay's dog house. This seems to indicate otherwise....so I am very, very, very confused.

File under "I didn't see this coming."

Granted, I don't hate the guy, but McVay doesn't seem to want to use him so I'd rather replace him let him go where he would be used.

That being said, I've heard that DRob might not be back due to pending legal issues, and they might be worried about not having enough guys that in that room that know the offense.

I can see a scenario where we circle back on DRob ala Witherspoon last year at some point but yeah, not a top or even 2nd option in FA for us.

Okay I think I can speak for a lot of folks and say this is a head scratcher for sure. Tutu has produced when given the opportunity but McVay refuses to fucking use him in a consistent manner. Love our coach but if he pulls that same shit of not using him as often, we need to hire a slap the shit out of him coach lol. A lot of coin has been spent so McVay needs to give him way more run.

Not fine for that money.
I guess so, probably.

I never get too invested in the +/- of the money. They all make too much. Celebrities in general.

FA is expensive no matter how you slice it. It’s always ”too much” this time of year.

So. How do you feel about the player on the field? I think Tutu is a WR4 on any team.

See my above comment about Tutu's best play coming from F which was Kupp's position. Now that Kupp's gone, there's actually the ideal spot for Tutu.

Possible, but I heard a tone of finality in Snead's voice when mentioning the legal matters.

You know a point that I haven't heard anyone make concerning DRob on his legal matter? What if the Rams don't want to sign him at all as a consequence for his foolish DUI last year? Everyone's talked about him only missing three games or so but it could be they feel they need to move on as a way of holding him accountable.

@Memento I know you were upset with no consequences last year. Thoughts on my theory?

Anyways, you think he is being asked to take the reins from Kupp? (WR2)
