Next year needs: QB, WR, T, S, CB, LB

We are uncertain of the starters at those positions for next year - that said, I would imagine Lake is someone we would like to re-sign. LB is never a concern, for better or worse.
I like the breakdown.

RB has to be added to next year's needs list because KW is a free agent.

With Stafford and Alaric locked up, Jonah gone, and assumptions of trading/releasing Kupp, Kendrick and Parkinson, we now need the lucky 13:

Backup QB (Jimmy G)
Speedy RB threat
WR2, WR3, WR5 (Adams, Tutu)
TE 1/2
Swing T
IOL Depth (Shelton)
DE/Edge to replace Hoecht
NT to replace BBIII (Ford)
MLB1 (Landman)
CB1 (Spoon?)
Safety depth
So, six down and seven to go. Likely get 5-6 of these in the draft, and 1-2 via post draft free agency. I still think they upgrade MLB in the draft too, with someone they can groom to take Landman's place before the end of the season, so while they've filled the spot, it may be temporary.

Edit - thanks Londoner - brain fart forgetting Jimmy G

Jimmy G has been signed as backup QB.

There's no way Spoon should be CB1 - he's a solid CB2 at best - so we definitely need to draft a stud CB, in my opinion.

The most pressing needs are CB1, WR (long-term), OT (long-term), TE (long-term) and then depth at Edge, S and ILB.

A speedy RB would be nice, but isn't a "must have" at this stage. The RB room looks solid but unspectacular.

Absolutely missed Jimmy G - thanks for the catch. Agree with Spoon (that's why the question mark) and with your assessment of priorities.

I view Parkinson as a panic signing to ensure they had someone at TE who could cover Higs' role until he returned. Nobody bats a thousand in FA, certainly not the Rams. :laugh3:
This seems likely to me. I've made the argument that the inline TE is hugely important to this offense even if fans don't see the impact of the stat sheet and Higbee in particular is a really good TE in all phases; pass catching, run blocking and pass blocking. The offense was able to do so many more things when he came back from injury last year.

This is why I won't be surprised if they tried to get Warren (though not likely) or end up with a guy like Evans or Helm who aren't as flashy but have a much better future as a fully useful Y tight end in the future.

Higs is TE1 but agree we need a TE1B to replace him in a year.

If we had to play Detroit or Philly tomorrow for the NFC championship, which position would help us most if we landed a dominant player?

My honest opinion:

1. Center
2. Cornerback
3. TE

If I am looking long term in the draft I go OT, CB, WR, TE, and QB.

To go to the Super Bowl this year I go:

Center - to run the ball down throats and give Stafford better protection to hit Adams and Puka.

CB - Shutdown a side of the field and commit more guys to stop the run of Philly/Detroit.

TE - A go to chain mover at TE to go with Puka and Adams would create defensive issues everywhere.

There will be some big time impact studs at TE, and CB in RD 1, though a bit of a move up might require moving some 2026 draft capital.

There doesn’t appear to be a ln impact center in this draft and Mcvay isn’t going that direction anyways.

Agree with your list with the caveat that if they don't extend KW then RB is right there with WR/OT/TE with needing long-term reinforcements.

Grey Zabel looks like he could be an impact center. I hoped we drafted him but then they signed Shelton so I doubt they go that direction now.

If it's Philly, we need an impact linebacker. Rozeboom was ok, but giving up long runs to Barkley and Hurts cost us that playoff game.

Biggest need TODAY is an OT capable of manning both LT and RT.

You can add as many TEs, WRs, or RBs, but if one of both of those starting OTs go down..................

That is, unless KT Leveston is a gem in waiting though media draftniks projected him as a guard.

I think a lot of people here underrate Kyren. I hope they sign him to an extension. I’ve been watching this past season over. He is excellent at making bigger gains than what he is given by the Oline.

I was gonna post this today but Memphis beat me to it. Rams have good depth at many positions... but not at OT. Both McClendon and Arcuri had embarrassing run-right-by-you "matador" moments last year. And Leveston is an unknown.

Rams need someone with talent behind Alaric and Havenstein.

Not sure any rookie this year would be much better than McClendon if he had to start a few games as a rookie. Our back up RT might end up being a veteran camp cut.

We'd have been much better off spending Shelton's money on him.
Wills may still get paid starter's $ on a short-term deal but if he doesn't ... a one-year "Get-Right and Healthy contract" to be a top-reserve-OL, with a top-end, high profile team .... might be attractive.

Probably just wishful thinking but a competent veteran behind Jackson and Havenstein would be nice.

As for your Shelton comment ... You can't stop Coleman Shelton, You can only hope to contain him.

He's an excellent back. I suspect though that the price won't be right for an extension. We'll know soon or at least likely by draft day.

McClendon isn't very good. A top 100 rookie OT should be able to surpass him. Probably not on a later drafted player.
