I don't think Kurt ever lost to the whiners. One more reason I was mad that the Rams let him walk.

Well, I finally got to watch it, and spoiler alert for my review

I'd give it a 5 out 10.
I can see why Warner co-signed the film. It wasnt a football movie, wasnt a love story, was a "Kurt is the best guy ever" kind of story. I think the acting was ok, the boy who played Zachary was heart warming.
Overall, the butchering of facts and history was just too much for me. The movie felt long and dragged on and felt like they had to squeeze in his Rams career. So much time spent on his college career, and then Arena, which made one believe that was where he learned all his fundamentals. The Rams unis with the awful wish.com numbers didnt even bother me all that much, but telling the story as Kurt being a rookie in 1999 was pathetic. Martz character was a buffoon, who wasnt even with the Rams when Warner joined the team in 1998. Again, leaving out his Euro league career pisses me off, as his faith was tested living in Amsterdam, and he was sent there by the Rams to be developed. I could go on and on, but I dont see where the viewers were lead on some fairy tale ride, just the 99 season would show that. It was like 1 minute Ray Lewis is kicking his ass, and the next he's in the Superbowl.

The saddest part of it,or the reality of life is sort of funny.OJ was a special player growing up.He was from SF & finished his career as a 9er.
It’s all a full circle,as I remember Marshall run a Kickoff back against USC & UCSD beat them at home.
The credits show OJ playing Marshall.Adding a little insult to the football part of it. I’ll keep adding to the disappointment of the football part of it though.
As SWdude said it is a love story.I told my GF that the story is wrong in
a lot of ways, but before the Baltimore game I told her I don’t know if the Lockeroom part was true? Seemed hard to believe the setting was just like that?

Well I don’t know if you watched the movie ? That said I thought they released him.Nick Foles cameback & won a SuperBowl MVP as well after getting released by The Rams.

Now making it Funny about the Full circle & Andy Reid.

So, this thread feels like a game day thread strewn with negativity...lol.

Just kidding. Everyone has their opinion on American Underdog.

I just watched it tonight with the wife and kids on Prime Video for $5.99 as a rental. We wanted to see it at the theater, but couldn't get a schedule to work for all of us together at once. Home video wasn't bad!

I give the movie a top 5-Star rating. I'm definitely a Rams and GSOT homer, full disclosure.

For me, it was "American Underdog". It wasn't "Rams 1999" or, "The GSOT X's & O's" It was a story about this guy's life as he became a super star.

Yeah, they left out Europe, the Chicago tryout fail, etc. I don't care. It's a 1 1/2 hour movie. Does it need to have "everything"? I say no. I will say, what's in the movie, what made it to the screen, is very true to life, which I appreciate. Nothing over inflated.

The movie gave me a good feel for what Kurt's life was like as he strived to be an NFL quarterback. Contained some very emotional scenes.

I really, really, really liked it. Go rent it if you haven't seen it yet!

Well, the fact that they had Warner joining the team in '99 and being a "rookie" was just too much for me. Glad you enjoyed the film

Wow!

Warner played for the Rams in 1998.

I just watched that movie. It was too much about Brenda. I wanted more of the football side of things. I’m am so glad that I didn’t pay to see it in a theater.

Why did they cast a fat guy for Faulk’s role?

My favorite was Mooch cutting him after two days. Nice talent evaluation skills.

If the movie was three hours to fit everything in people would be complaining it was too long. Meh, the movie was well done story telling that had to make some creative decisions to keep it moving along. The fun part was telling my wife the parts they left out or skipped past as a person who had intimate knowledge of the situation but for someone like her who doesn't know/care that he was on the Rams in 98 it's a pretty insignificant point and doesn't really add anything to the story. I do think they should have added Europe in there but not a huge deal.

Lol, while we were watching it I kept saying "Go fat Faulk go!".

Wasn't crazy about Brenda during the whole run in real life and less of a fan the way they portrayed her in the film. Could have had more and fat Faulk made no sense lol. Great story, great super bowl win, meh on the movie.

Warner was 5-0 vs the Whiners while he was with the Rams from 1999-2001. Would've been 6-0 but he was injured in 2000 and they won 34-24 with Trent.

Mad Mike is to blame. That was The Biggest take from the Movie.
I’m sure Kurt Warner wanted him to be per sieved that way.I was never a big Fan of his.You had to have liked Martz for what he did as a offensive coach. He was much better in the booth Imo.
Trent Green & DV says enough on there relationship. Now Trent is in the booth himself on the other side of it.
He is the better announcer, but Kurt is a Dawg.He has earned his respects big time.
Eli & then Leinart to winning a SuperBowl? Then again maybe that was Big Ben ? History is history, but following The Rams makes it hard to look back at times.I’m sure I was drinking some where during whatever SuperBowl time it was.

Just seemed like they cut corners once they got to the Rams. Uniforms were way off with Wish version jerseys/numbers, the players (Faulk and Bruce for starters) looked like they grabbed a couple of guys who were playing pickup basketball, and of course the factual Rams history.
Lets face it, there is no Kurt Warner story if he starts 10 games, they lose most of them and he's back to palookaville after the year. Its a story and he's a story because of the success of the Rams team. They could have easily cut out 20 minutes of his college/arena ball and made the real "Underdog" story the real hero. Instead, after all that build up they went with some made up version of Martz saying "he's ready", and oh by the way they won the SB.....
I get it that to make a movie out of a real life sitch requires suspending some reality, but IMO what they did with the Rams stuff would have been like taking the big sack at the end of "Rudy" and having that sack clinch the National Championship.... Instead, they kept it factual, right down to the seconds on the clock.
Alas....

Yeah I would have been happy with more Rams stuff for sure and more attention to detail. The white Leonard Little made me chuckle, roll my eyes. But I get why its not all that important to the story they wanted to tell to the majority of people who'd be watching it..

Issac Bruce was played by Simeon Castile, who was a 2 year NFL pro out of the University of Alabama, for what it's worth.

Marshall Faulk was played by a former Arena Football player.

Most players looked heavier, but yeah fat Faulk stood out as the most obvious. Levi's pads made him look fat too. Something wasn't right about it. I noticed white Little too. Martz was made to look like the bad guy. I get it he was harsh on QBs but seemed over the top. But Warner says it was pretty accurate and Martz had no qualms about it.

I wasn't crazy about his wife back then, but Anna did really well in the portrayal.
