Ugh. Had really hoped we'd package a few later picks and somehow pry their 4th from them. But, I should totally adjust my expectations with our GM. We literally never win trades. Name one that Les has won?

I'd have rather kept him then this trade. Now we are literally telling the world we are going to take a WR in the draft, when we already had more holes then we could fill prior.

Come on @ottoman89 trust the process. Now when they use a 3rd round pick on a WR, you will understand.

They are taking a $19M cap-hit in 2023, with just $3M of cap relief to not have Leonard Floyd.

And another $19.6M hit, with just $5.6M of relief to not have Jalen Ramsey.

It's ALL ABOUT 2024.
Aren't we having a 2023 season though? I swear I can't recall any sports team in any sport every tanking a season as hard as the Rams are tanking 2023.

Some here just don’t get the business side of this game. This deal serves its purpose. We have a bit more cap room now to fill in some holes post-draft (1 year veteran deals) and, as many have noted, it fits the plan of compiling resources for 2024.

Nobody was ripped off, there wasn’t a better deal out there. It is what it is.

Most also seem to not understand that other teams know other teams roster and cap situations.

Your expectations here were unrealistic.

I don't get it. Why would the Rams pay $10 million not to have Robinson, versus paying $15 million to have him? What am I missing?
McVay always cuts bait on guys who don't live up to expectations. This is standard really. Sucks too, to move on so quickly, but it means the big dog doesn't think Robinson can get the job done in his offense.

Still unclear about the 2023 salary cap impact for the Rams.

Both Spotrac and Over-the-Cap have reduced the Rams 2023 cap space by about $3M.

Both sites have (at the moment) $21.45M of Dead-$ for Robinson on the Rams' Books.
That's $3M MORE than his 2023 cap-hit before the trade.

I wouldnt say "any sports team" when you clearly don't watch NBA or MLB much.

Of course in the NBA pairing cheap young players with stars is a winning model, so your premise is just wrong all the way around.

According to OTC, we went from $55M in 24' cap space to $73M. That was the motivation for the trade.

The Philadelphia 76ers did it for multiple years and didn't even hide from it. Also the Houston Astros did it Baseball.

This is a good move we are clearing up a ton of space in 2024 to make some moves for AD/Staffords last run. I want see more Atwell, Van Jefferson, and McCutcheon this year. I hope they don’t draft any WRs early.

Exactly plus if he does a lot better this season which should easily happen because Stafford is around all off season, Robinson knows the offense why not unload him when his stock is at a high like at the trade deadline because we could still trade him for the same price then. A deparate playoff team loses a bunch of wrs they will need replacements and I am sure we could get way more for him then if he performs.

We'd have likely received better draft compensation had we traded Van Jefferson instead of ARob, although the Rams have a greater opportunity to become real players during the 2024 free agency period.
Our team isn't desperate at WR yet, we still have Kupp, Van Jeff, Skowronek, Atwell, McCutcheon & Trammell competing. We have the draft & UDFA's to choose from as well as that 2'nd tier of free agent WR's following the draft.
More than replacing Allen Robinson, I'd prefer upgrading the Brandon Powell loss, acquiring a Special Teams K/P Return demon who can learn our offensive system from the bench for a season, someone like Nebraska's Trey Palmer. jmo.

Looks like we gain $15M+ in 2024.
So we get out of 100% of the 2024 cap hit — Pitt takes that now. If I understood you correctly.

In addition to saving $5m this year.

Maybe not lol. I guess easier to look at overall picture and just say $20m over 2023-2024. How that works between those two years specifically is uncertain (or at least confusing- to me).

It's amazing we found a trade partner for this. Rams were likely going to release him but managed to trade him which helps in 2024. Strategy is clear. Not sure why people are surprised by the compensation.
