Akers OUT for personal reasons

3. Josh Jacobs.

I like Jacobs. A tough, slashing type runner. More quick than fast. Wouldn't mind trading for him. Raiders declined his 5th year option so he'll be a free agent next year. Not sure what it would take to get him though.

Latavius Murray was recently available. He is getting older for a running back, and his best days are behind him, but he would have been a good emergency band-aid, IMO. No idea why the Rams, apparently, did not pursue him when available. His nose for the end zone in close is still top-notch too. Similar to Gurley in that respect, who also excelled there, and retained that part of his game well after his degenerative knee robbed his explosiveness as a runner. The Rams could really use that right now. We won't get much red zone opportunities with this offense at present. We need to cash in when we are there. See: the SF debacle.

Names like Josh Jacobs etc. are nice to dream of but likely not in the cards.

Murray could have been acquired for basically free and be our 2022 CJ Anderson.

If it’s Attitude and Work Ethic related, is that ‘football’ or ‘non-football’ related?

I could see an argument either way.

McVay’s cryptic comments (and I can understand momentarily withholding information) lend themselves to wholesale speculation.

All I know … really just my opinion … is that this has been a tough five weeks; and there are multiple reasons for the Rams’ struggles. At the top of the List (again, my opinion) is quickly losing the top-5 interior O-Linemen, and the 2nd, 3rd and 4th CBs in the same week.

Those two factors alone are going to have a major negative impact on the offense … both running the ball and in pass protection; and how a defense (with a compromised offense) is going to play its coverage.

I guess this is why I keep posting about Animal House.

what I think is that running behind a subpar offensive might be the reason for Akers not so good performance. He is not tradeable at this point, wouldn't get anything for him, so I'll believe his absence is actually personal until proven otherwise.

When Animal House came out, I was in my freshman year at NYU. The legal drinking age in NY was eighteen, and I had gone to an all-male Catholic high school taught by Catholic Brothers (think priests with a bad attitude).

My grade-point-average dipped from a 3.85 in high school to a 2.9 in college. I can barely remember my sophomore year.

I really think the injury affected his lateral movement.....who knows?
He may not be a great fit for the offense.
I hope Akers is ok and get another shot somewhere else.
Rams may have to cut him.....I doubt they get more than a 7th round pick for him.

His patient running style is not a good fit now with a sub par beat up OL. Now you need a guy that can run down hill and hit any hole ASAP. Better to gain 2 than lose 3. Akers waits for an opening like Levon Bell...and that's fine if you have a great OL opening up big holes.

CMC is more then a pipe dream fellas. His cap hit is nearly 9m this season and a WHOPPING 19.5 for the next 2 years. Zero. Percent. Chance. Even if we could afford it, paying RB's (especially injury prone ones) is a very bad idea. I do love the Gibson talk, honestly think he'd be perfect in our offense. Big, fast guy that was a WR in college? Sign me up. Otherwise, our slim trade resources are needed to bring in someone that can actually block for more then a millisecond.

No interest in an injury prone/$$$ RB in CMC. There are a LOT of RBs who can do the job. They don’t all have to be superstars, just guys who can pick up the yards that are available and occasionally make someone miss or something out of nothing. I just want a RB who sees the hole and runs hard through it. I thought Akers had a lot of potential but whether it be his injury or something above the head he looks lost. This might be a blessing in disguise

The coach said that Akers was physically OK and indicated that the situation was not football-related or performance-related as it pertained to the Rams’ run game as a whole.

I feel what you are saying. Maybe people around here are thinking more rationally than emotionally about the situation, but I get it though maybe we should leave the rationality thinking to the FO, and us fans could stay out of it. We just need to find a way to win though if we want to run it back, otherwise we will be on another rebuild and this will be a long painful season for us. I don’t think we will be able to hoist the lombardi again this season, but I would rather be runner up come playoff time…

Even a healthy CMC does not do that much and isn’t worth the cost when running behind this SShow of an OL. An OL would be the much better get.

As to a new RB, better would be one who can break tackles and get the tough 1-3 short yardage gains; and is great in pass protection. That’s not CMCs game. Bad fit with this OL. There are much better fits that would cost way less.

Jalen RAMsey is suppose to be looking out for him.IMO whatever it is that he will over come it with the support he has from within The Rams organization.

I have made the Lev Bell and Cam Akers comparison many times myself, and pre-injury, I really thought Akers was on his way to similar things. I was that high on him. It is beautiful to watch Akers set up his blocks, and stutter and stop at just the right moments, changing his pace to send opposing defenders flying as they whiff on tackles. Very fun RBs to watch when they are "on"! A great blend of explosiveness and grace.

But with this o-line, at least until we get some bodies back, that style of running is doomed.

Bell on that sad Jets team looked eerily similar to Akers on this year's Rams squad.
