Tbh the problem isn’t the position coach it’s what the head coach gives him in terms of players. We have traded away so many picks and our 2nd and 3rd rounders are mostly questionable picks. This is the problem with the roster, it’s the same thing that won it for us last year. We’re as fans going to have to live with this 6ear. But judging by the sheer amount of vent threads going right now that won’t happen. It’s going to be a long year and a longer off season.
What I'm talking about is the collaborative effort. During the offseason it's not like they ignore the position coaches. Those guys feed them the intel they need on the group, as they're the ones with the pulse of the room. So just with TE as an example someone steered them to give the kids a go I think. Which to some extent is understandable, when those kids contributed to our epic Super Bowl run.
But this game is about accountability and it has to be. That's the beauty of it. We can have our favorites and all that, and Brown is definitely a favorite of McVay's. But look at the history of the RB room. It has been a mediocre mess for a long time. Then he moves to TE and allows the room to take a nosedive. Might be a little hubris there. Thinking he can make chicken salad out of chicken shit.
With TE they should have looked hard at their complete loss of physicality. I mean they barely got by SF. Cincinnati was really tough and physical up front too in the playoffs. We had just enough. So where is the self-analysis on all that.
And btw it goes without saying that I am ecstatic we won it all. Also you know I believe in McVay. This is all on him as he's the main guy setting the vision and identity. But that does not mean individual coaches don't need to be held accountable.
I just find it interesting that one of the coaches McVay has been highest on has not really made huge impact in the actual play of the room he runs. The TEs looked way better prepared under Wes Phillips. The RBs for years have been somehow accepted by this staff. Brown is part of all that, he is a common link. This is why I started that coaching thread, because I think coaching has something to do with all this. The problems are mostly talent of course, and it all starts with those OL injuries. But if McVay passes on the TV deal again this offseason I think we might see him wielding an axe on more than the obvious roster groups.
