Reps at QB don't really mean much in preseason, you're not playing a real defense. The calls are so mickey mouse it's high school ball, but you can still see get lineman reps in blocking on offense and defense, pass catchers and defenders can get reps to work on technique in space even if the call is nothing much.
Sure maybe in the 90s and 2000s it meant more cause offenses and defenses weren't as advanced but those days are over.
BUT WHAT ABOUT TY GETING REPS YOU SAY!!!!
Well Mr. Wet-behind-the-ears needs reps on things like cadence, getting the call in, getting to the line, he needs reps in 2 minute even if it's a 2 minute from Parkway West High, etc... that someone who's been in the system doesn't need. Kid even needs reps on his drops and matching his footwork to the route so it's a different beast.
Joint practices where teams are at least playing some medium strength version of the offense and defense are really what's important and McVay has said it repeatedly.
I think the ship has sailed on Ty getting 1st team reps period except maybe as a reward towards end of camp.
