The rookie River Ryan sure making the most of his call up. 10 innings and no earned runs given up. Had a runner on 3rd with one out and struck out the next two batters. Dodgers lead 3-0 in the top of the 6th. The bad news is the bullpen has to come in sooner or later. They blew a 5 run lead last night. 3 runs is far from safe. In fact, probably not enough.

Edit: Just as I feared. Vesia comes in. Throws one pitch. A 2 run homer to make it 3-2. Dodger bullpen is really bad right now. Hard to find someone who can get outs. I knew that 3 run lead was not enough.

I'm thinking with the trade deadline approaching now the number one priority should be bullpen help. I don't know whats happened to Phillips. He was the presumed closer entering the season. They just needed him to get one out yesterday. And he couldn't manage that.

I am hoping that some of our injured relievers will start to come back and help out too.

But yeah - lets get some bullpen help.

Phillips has lost his confidence right now.

This too shall pass boys. Just the dog days going on here. We need Mookie, Freddie and Muncy back.

Now is not the time to peak, we've seen that movie before.

Hopefully come October we will be the healthiest we have been all year and then its time to go.

Man, Arizona and San Diego sure as hell making it a division race! And setting themselves up for the Wild Card if the Dodgers can keep them at bay.

Its been tougher than expected. Losing those 3 hurt. Losing Yamamoto hurt too. But they still could have enjoyed a nice lead in the division if the bullpen could have held their own. Losing 5 run leads 3 times in two weeks is not good.

I think the hope was that Buehler would regain his form. Miller would continue to ascend. Kershaw would come back and stabilize the rotation. Those things have not happened. Flaherty was a good addition. Pitching well tonight. Hopefully Yamamoto returns soon. And Mookie, Freddie and Muncy can come back and give the offense a boost.

They still have a lead. But if those guys stay out much longer it might not hold. Especially the way the bullpen has been pitching.

The bullpen reminds me of the arson squad that the angels had in the mid 70s

I turned the game off after 5 last night. Seems like the bullpen did it's job. Amazing how the top 5 teams in MLB are within 1 win or loss of each other.

67-45, 67-46, 67-46, 66-46, 66-47

All have different issues. All have different strengths. Not one running away from the pack. Should be a great finish to a great year.

Regular season has been de-valued ever since the playoff expansion. It was the worst thing to happen to baseball.

Now a team can get in with 84 wins, get hot for a 2 week period, and win it all.

It is what it is. I like our squad though. Glasnow was great last night. Would have pitched into the 8th if Pages catches that ball...

Well the Biggio trade sure helped us
It did, we had a body while Muncy and Freeman were out. And it's exactly the kind of buy low gamble Friedman does and will always do. It's netted us guys like Justin Turner, Muncy and many pitchers. Get used to these kind of moves. We'll actually you should be used to them by now and understand what the team is doing with them.

Two things I remember from 81 is Guidry being his normal self but losing 2-1. And in game 6, Bob Lemon pinch hitting for Tommy John in the 4th inning of a 1-1 game with two out and nobody on. TJ was incredulous! I guess Lemon figured George Frazier wasn't gonna fook up AGAIN. Wrong!

Just thinking of the old days!!!

How are the Yankees set up for beyond this year? Because I'm not sure the Dodgers have what they need to win it all this year. Next year Ohtani will pitch. Hopefully Yamamoto stays heathy. Don't know if Buehler will ever regain his form. But it seems the Dodgers might be set up for future years more than his year.

But you never know. Mookie will be returning shortly. Freeman's back. Yamamoto should be ok to go in a few weeks. It all comes down to the bullpen. After a couple months of pitching pretty good it seems like they all went into a collective slump. Its been hard to find a reliable couple guys to come in and hold a lead in the last couple innings.

And no lead is safe with this group right now

Soto, Verdugo and Torres are free agents. The Yankees would be fools to let Soto get away. Give him WHATEVER he asks for. They have the Martian (Jasson Dominguez) to replace Verdugo. With Torres gone, they could move Chisholm back to 2nd base, then they'd need a third baseman. They have ample choices in the minors (and Cabrera on the ML roster). The kid they have spelling Rizzo at 1B (Ben Rice) looks like a keeper. He just has to learn the position better, as he's a catcher. Wells will be their catcher the rest of this year and next season. Lotsa talk about the Yankees having a depleted farm system but they've got some talent down there. Pitching is always a concern/problem.

Dammit - another pitcher down for the count.

This is just getting ridiculous now.
