Rams should claim him. They can cut Rapp to make room for him.

Michael Ojemudia 2020 NFL Draft Profile

After starting at Iowa for the past two seasons, cornerback Michael Ojemudia is taking his talents to the professional level. The 6’-1”, 200-pound defensive back enters the NFL Draft on the heels of what is probably his best season to date. During his 747 snaps on the field, Ojemudia allowed 37 receptions on 65 targets for 315 yards, one touchdown, three interceptions, and a 55.6 passer rating.

Ojemudia initially joined the college football ranks as a three-star recruit. Despite playing linebacker and tight end in high school, Iowa decided that Ojemudia’s future lied at cornerback. The positional change took a while to take, as he took a redshirt in 2015 and hardly saw the field in 2016. He earned a bigger role in 2017 as a redshirt sophomore but was largely terrible. Playing in 331 snaps, Ojemudia allowed 18 receptions on 27 targets for 231 yards, two touchdowns, no interceptions, and a 118.0 passer rating.

Fortunately, something clicked as a redshirt junior. Ojemudia looked like a new man, allowing just 20 receptions on 42 targets for 309 yards, three touchdowns, three interceptions, and a 66.5 passer rating. He proved this wasn’t a one-year fluke by having an even better season as a redshirt senior.

Strengths

  • Impressive ball skills and ability to break up passes;
  • Above-average in zone with plus anticipation;
  • 79th percentile arm lengths helps with pass breakups;
  • Patient corner that doesn’t overpursue his reads;
  • Solid athletic testing across the board with NFL build;
  • Keeps the play in front of him.

Weaknesses

  • Minimal experience in press coverage;
  • Played in a simple scheme – going to need to adjust to NFL defenses;
  • Can be overcautious about the big play and allow underneath routes;
  • Not much of a factor in the run game;
  • Tons of unknowns when it comes to his evaluation.
Guy can't stay healthy and be on the field. He's played 3 defensive snaps in the 3 games he was active so far this year. Last year he was only active for the last 2 games.

Rapp could help them get a 2024 Compensatory Pick.
Yeah but how high? 6th round? Are they likely to draft a guy with Ojemudia’s skill set with a sixth round pick?

I am not a fan of picking players with injuries unless they have a lot of potential and they get picked late. It’s basically like trading a potential sixth round pick for Ojemudia. It is worth it imo.

Not following your thought process. It's Not a choice of a late round comp pick OR Ojemudia.

If the Rams had put in a waiver claim and gotten Ojemudia (Chicago got him), they could have simply placed one of several players on IR that are out for the season (Allen, Skowronek and Donald are all still on the 53-man roster), or released a player that would have no impact on the 2024 comp pick formula.

My response was referring to if they cut Rapp yo sign Ojemudia.

You said, Rapp gets the Rams a comp pick.

If making room by cutting Rapp to sign Ojemudia was the only way they could do it, then I’d be fine with it. Rapp likely won’t net better than a 6th round pick.

My thought process was in reference to Merlin’s suggestion.

Now your not following my point; and you may have been referencing Merlin's suggestion but you responded to my post.

And, again, if the Rams had added Ojemudia ... or any player off waivers ... there would be no reason to release any player (like Rapp) who could impact a future compensatory pick.

Figured it would have been nice to get a look at a safety. It's a need for us. Oh well.

Couple weeks left so it's going to be fun to be able to watch the waiver wire either way. This is new for us.

Agree with that. Would love to see Quentin Lake get some reps.

Just no need to release a pending free agent that could favorably impact the compensatory pick formula.

I don't think Rapp will get us shit. Might be wrong we'll see.

Good thing is you can get safeties all over in every draft. It's like RB. Those two positions will be a couple of our late round choices.

Sounds like an Indy move. They have a nice high pick to get a QB but no let's trade for a shitter like Carr. :laugh4:

I think Irsay looks rough man. Like he's about to time out. He probably does something like that to try to win now.
They arent trading for him, Raiders will release him

In a way, yes. My reply to you was just to point out what I said. Despite two injury riddled seasons, Ojemudia is talented enough that he’d be worth the equivalent of a sixth round pick. So if it came to releasing a player that could fetch a sixth round pick, it still would be a worthwhile mov.

But then you pointed out it wasn’t necessary.

Maybe that’s because he was a second round pick. Media types may overvalue him based on that.

I guess if used differently by another DC he could be more valuable as strictly a box safety type. But that is possibly the easiest position to fill in free agency.
