You said, "I dont see anyone talking pressure rate for Verse or Latu."

So let me rephrase. Pressure rate has been discussed quite a bit even in regard to Latu and Verse. You not having seen it or heard it simply means you're not in the rooms where this type of thing is discussed.
Again, not the conversation but hey, thanks for playing!

The conversation was in regard to your belief that pressure rate is only used in the context of supporting a player. Your belief, and the fact you used to support it, is incorrect.

But carry on...

But you prefer Verse. What was your draw to him?
To Verse? People that I read and listen to that know a ton more than me like him more. Add to that I watched several of his games this year and I like how he's worked himself up from Albany as a very low level recruit and shaped his game. I'm much more familiar having watched Verse than Chop.

I watched several of Robinsons games too and they're similar in build and athleticism and wouldn't have a problem with either. Penn St was frustrating to watch. As soon as an Edge made a play they were off the field whether it was him or Isaac or Carter and it was frustrating to watch. But Chop made plays and generated pressures. I would have no problem drafting either of them at 19 I just happen to like Verse more though I think it's very possible he's gone.

Sorry that you dont like truth.
If the Rams love Chop as a prospect, then I love him as a prospect. Basically every scouting analysis of him states the same concern that other posters have made, that his production doesnt match his profile. And also a typical counter to his production are varying reasons why he'll be successful down the road, including the QB pressure rate, the low snap count etc.
Alas, there's a reason why he's looked at as an option after the top 3, not among them

Exactly, and what about him do they like more?
I know what I saw, in the 2 biggest games of the season, he showed up big. 6 TFL and 4.5 sacks in those must win games. In any event, like you I tend to side with the same media/gurus etc, but oddly enough they seem to point out the same disparity of production vs potential which ultimately rates them the way they do.
To me, Chop is like the McCarthy of edge guys. Doesnt have the big stats, but seemingly has the intangibles that teams fawn over.
For the record, I'd rather have Chop than McCarthy. Lol

Agreed that sacks are so variable. Many analytics people, and I've heard PFF say this for sure, say that pressure rate is more predictive of future performance than sacks are.

I agree on Young. I didn't see many sacks that he created.
To add to that, PFF is pretty dang accurate with their models on defensive line/edge players. Guess who their top DT was last year? Our own Turner.

Love the enthusiasm!

I think it would be statistically nigh impossible to have as much success as we had in last years draft. That draft may well end up being a best of decade draft for us if everyone stays healthy.

If we come out of the draft with a plus starter and two other starters in the draft I'll be doing backflips (not including specialists). Even a plus starter and another starter with a number of significant role players would be a win too.
Yeah man, I'm definitely pumped after last year's draft. Realistically I know it's hard to hit like that again but in McSnead I trust hahaha.....I'm not going u in backflips as I'll just end up in a hospital bed trying to pull some shit like that but I'll give it a......

Good lord you're a child with a broken record :D I don't care about the sacks or the TFL not everybody gets them all the time. There's more to a guys game than just what shows up in the box score. I'm over this whole conversation I get it you don't like Chop because his box scores aren't as sexy as you want them to be. I'm sorry that you think everybody else that thinks he's a 1st round pick is wrong.

I don't know if he'll succeed since I don't know what team he will go to and how he will be used or coached or how he will respond to the coaching and how much effort he will put into getting better.

That entire last sentence tells you if he will be good or not and his box scores in college have absolutely jack and shit to do with it.

I'm done here we'll have to agree to disagree you're still my Ramily but this broken record can be turned off for my benefit :)

And per PFF there were 2 players with a 95+ pass rush rating the last two years. Chop and Latu that's it the only 2 guys to do that the last 2 years. I don't know if he'll be good nor does anybody else here nor does PFF but I'm curious to see how he plays especially if the Rams draft the kid.

I wonder what some posters would have thought about the idea of us using a high pick on Turner this time last year. He only had 2 sacks his senior draft season.

I was pumped when they took him, based a lot on PFF's metrics on him. They had been talking about him for months and stated how he would be an absolute steal for some team.

Well, he also didn't play next to Aaron... though I think the truth is somewhere in the middle, I think he excelled even more from college and benefited from Donald.

But that was the rub on Turner, all these people were like oh great, more pass rush and his calling card in college was run defense, not pass rush! His efficacy there was very so-so. But people saw a lighter DT and just assumed he could rush the passer.

I think a lot of people would agree with this. And sacks are so variable, sometime you get them from fluke plays too.

Edit: That's why I wasn't blown away by Young last year for us, liked his sack numbers but his pressure rate was so-so.
One person said that while watching Turner he noticed that most of his sacks were late coverage sacks or cleanup sacks from the QB being chased his way

The DLine guru has Chop rated second behind Latu

I share the concerns about his production. I'm not the biggest Chop fan and like you would support him if the Rams loved him. That said, I question if sacks and tackles are the only "truth".

Low snap count is a legit reason for why someone wouldn't have as many sacks/tackles. If he had the same snap count as Turner he would probably have more of both. The flip side is what Merlin brought up. There could be reasons, not favorable to him on why the snap count is low.

In the same manner, pressure rate is a legit metric to determine how he's impacting the game. It could be used to denigrate or support a player. It's definitely not something that should just be dismissed.
