Merlin Olsen played in 14 consecutive Pro Bowls, back when that meant something.

Longevity? Thy name is Olsen.

Hands down, you haven't been a Rams fan long enough to pick anyone else but Merlin ... he is the greatest Rams EVER, not even close. Jones is great, but his greatness came because of Olsen.

I selected Deacon. He was the first guy I associated as Mr Ram and the rules were changed because of that wicked head slap (plus he was on the Brady Bunch, #nobrainer)...no disrespect to all the St Louis Rams players. Number 2 is Jack Youngblood, followed by Eric Dickerson and Roman Gabriel. I love me some Bruce, Pace, Warner and Faulk....but I got to go old school. Joe Germaine, Tony Banks and Laurence Phillips are tied for last place. (FYI, I live in St Louis)

Marshall Faulk! The guy is one of the most elusive backs to play the game. And still(I'm pretty sure) has the most receiving yards of any RB.

Merlin Olsen. Fourteen consecutive Pro Bowls as a defensive tackle. He's the best defensive tackle who has ever played the game, in my opinion. He anchored two Fearsome Foursomes. It would be easy to pick Deacon or Youngblood. It would be easy to pick a running back...but Olsen is my choice, and it's not even close to me.

I think it was John Madden who once said "If an alien from Mars came to earth and asked what a football player is, I'd go get Jack Youngblood".

Jack was the embodiment of what a football player is. I could never leave him out of the conversation.

But if the question of who my favorite Rams player comes up, it would have to be Roman Gabriel. He was my first Rams hero. Someone I looked up to as a kid. The reason I became a fan of the Horns.

I gotta agree, there are many.. and I love Dickerson ,but Merlin was by far the best.

Faulk was the best I have ever seen from 99 to 03. That highlight reel run he had at the dome against Cleveland is astounding, as was his performance at Tennessee in '99, against New Orleans in '00 to get the team into the playoffs, against Tampa Bay in '02, game after game after game he put up highlight reel stuff.

It starts and ends here!

Spoken like a man who knows this team from that era.

They were a little before my time, I started being a Rams fan with SB XIV. But I was always fascinated by the Fearsome Foursome and put a lot of time into reading about them and watching any video I can find on them.

All the better. Its great you (and others) keep us on point with the historical players.

I'm not old enough to have watched Merlin, Deacon, or Dickerson play but if the question is who is the best 'Ram' that answer is quite simply Deacon Jones. People still talk about him with vibrant fear and respect for what he did. How many Ram players coined an official stat name? Or caused the rule books to be changed due to your dominate play? I swear just listening to the guy talk in interviews is amazing and intimidating with the passion he had.
