He's not coming out of retirement, and if he did I'm fairly certain he'd be considered a UFA being its past the trade deadline. I dont think the Rams could receive compensation, because they cant trade his rights

Yeah that's the big obstacle, he is still under contract with the Rams. The only way he could join Bengals is if the Rams, out of the kindness of their hearts, cut Whitworth once he unretired essentially. Since he is a veteran of considerable age he wouldn't hit waivers and would be free to sign with whoever. The Rams have been known to be overly generous to players compared to other teams so I wouldn't say never but I just don't see that happening.

It is a shame they couldn't trade him because I'd love some draft picks for him to play a few games with the Bengals. But unfortunately that's not how it works.
