Sounds like the way Cole Payton's season ended
His ball is nothing like Steve Youngs. The nose of his ball tailed off to the left. I am a lefty and it does the same thing when I throw a football.I have to admit that Payton is my latest QB crush. I also read somewhere that his ball comes out of his hand somehow more like a right handed thrower. Not sure how that works but they were saying that lefties have a weird spin that can be difficult for receivers but that his ball flies more like a right hander. I like what I've seen from him though and he seems like someone that could be pretty good after a year or two with NFL coaching.
Good thing is Payton should be available quite a bit longer.Sounds like the way Cole Payton's season ended
He certainly has ample tools. The big concern I have with him is the limited experience. In the Senior Bowl game, you could see it with his pocket instincts. Did not naturally feel the rush. He's a project, but he has starting QB tools. Worth considering.I have to admit that Payton is my latest QB crush. I think the Trey Lance situation will have folks tapping the brakes. 1 year starter, div 1-aa etcGood thing is Payton should be available quite a bit longer.
Now watch him end up way up the board though.![]()
We could never see outbid the Jets for himWhy not go for Mendoza? The right offer might shake the Raiders off the pick.
QB, and having a superstar qb, is a trend with the super bowl winners over the years. The winners got the superstar, such as Brady, Mahomes and many more as you go back in time.
This super bowl has Maye and Darnold. Hard to argue they did not have stellar seasons.
Rams need a stud QB to be in super bowl contention, or the odds they don't make dwindle.
That's fair, however, I do think he runs better then a young Stafford, however, I do think Payton is someone that you might be able to develop.
Not when it comes to running.
Amazing what happens when the National Champs are up 24-0 and coast on D and still put up another 14 on O.That playoff loss was not good for him. He was ineffective, got hurt, then the backup came in and moved the offense and looked like the superior QB.
Not just arm talent but range of talent. Able to throw long with accuracy and short with touch. And if he's mobile too, all the better. We've seen a lot of RBs who try to be QBs and most don't work out so well.True, but we’re drafting a QB not a running back. Arm talent matters, especially when we may or may not have Stafford next year.
Hope you're right because he really is a nice fit for us. We take him in the range where an upside QB should go, park him at QB3 and let him scout team as running QBs as a rook while he learns.I think the Trey Lance situation will have folks tapping the brakes. 1 year starter, div 1-aa etc
Will he go mid round? Possibly. Day 2? No way
Well he is not just a qb coach. He is a coach of the whole team...every position. And, as we all know, the Raiders need a ton of players, for example on defense, where Maxx Crosby is their only blue chip player. So a new head coach who's sn OC is going to trade away the only real sure fire starting QB and run with Geno Smith? The same Geno that the HCs previous team got rid of after 1 year as their OC?
Good luck with that.

Other teams in the past have traded away the #1 pick for a boat load of picks, so I was just throwing it out there. Mendoza could get them a lot of draft capital and/or current players.
I was a big fan of Milroe last year for the same reason I'd love to see them take a flyer on a guy like a Payton, or a Haynes King. A guy who could not only be a back up, but have a small set of plays for them to runHope you're right because he really is a nice fit for us. I get it, do not like QBs who run too much. BUT, get him at the right price and learn from the master. That’s fair, and I don’t disagree. I just didn’t like the comparison as Stafford has always had one of the better arm talents this league has seen. I don’t think Payton has that in his game, but I’m not discounting that he can develop into something. But if we don’t have Stafford next year, can you win with Payton as a rookie? I’m not sold.

He has a big enough arm.
He is worth the risk for the right price.
It would be nice to see a big strong and fast Rams QB take the 50 yard run when they give it to us. But without all the designed QB run plays.
You don't take Cole Payton if Stafford is retiring. And we better know what Stafford's plans are before FA and the Draft. You take Cole Payton if Stafford is planning to play another year or two. He's a project. What I like about him is he's 6'2+" 230 with 10+ inch mitts, 4.5/4.6 speed, and a strong arm. He needs to clean up his throwing motion, and he is not at all ready to start in the NFL. But he has the size, strength, mobility, and arm talent to be a starting QB. Does he have the instincts, processing ability, and football IQ? That is the question. But at the right place in the Draft, I'm good with us taking the shot.Yeah. I just don’t see how 2700 yards and 16 passing TDs against subpar defenses gives anyone a woody for this guy. He’s definitely someone you can develop, but he’s on a sit for a year and be ready type guy. His development will take a lot of time. We need that “I can start right now, but might be better sitting a year” type guy given Staffords uncertainty.
Hes a converted WR with one year starting QB experience against defenses that aren’t scaring anyone. And his actual QBing over a full season isn’t all that impressive. He has tools, but tools are only as good as the person wielding them.
One thing I'm now seeing that makes his Senior Bowl performance more impressive for me is that he suffered a bad break to his thumb on his throwing hand and had surgery to fix it in December. That's not an easy injury to come back from on a quick turnaround. Takes some balls to go out there and compete. Intriguing option.Hope you're right because he really is a nice fit for us. We take him in the range where an upside QB should go, park him at QB3 and let him scout team as running QBs as a rook while he learns.
Thing with Payton as well is that he's such a good athlete you could throw the ball to him or have him hold for your kicker and you open up trick plays out the wazoo. If he sucks at QB maybe he still can be a multi-tool for the offense.I get it, do not like QBs who run too much. BUT, get him at the right price and learn from the master.
