Are we forgetting the Super bowl Burrow played in against us?
Of course not
Honestly, with a D like that, its tough to get into the playoffs. He'd have it MUCH better here.
That's exactly why ... with one more disappointing, non-playoff year in 2026 ... Burrow could ask for a trade.

He would be thirty years old, with four straight non-playoff seasons. He could be frustrated; and even Cincinnati might consider a change (cap space and draft choices) a viable strategy.

I have been promoting this idea for almost a year. Last year, at this time, I wrote that it was not even a possibility until 2027; and the Bengals needed to have two more disappointing years. Well, they just had one.

Another point to consider is that the Bengals would probably prefer to trade Burrow out of the AFC.

It's still a long-shot but not as unlikely as my other Stretch Dream Scenario ... Me and Ana de Armas!

@OldSchool ... I'm pretty certain but just to be clear ... your laugh emoji is at my Burrow to the Rams theory
... and ... NOT to the possibility of me and Ana de Armas ... Right?

I feel silly even asking.

He looked good. My issue with him is upside. He's on the smaller side of things (6'1" 205), he has an arm that is good enough but not elite, and he does not have a lot of mobility. (He also has small hands.)

Cole Payton is intriguing. He's a project. Definitely not ready to start next year. But his athleticism showed up today, he has plenty of arm, and he has plenty of size (6'2+" 230). On Day 3, I'd give him some consideration.
Yes he is. Also Cole had a strong week and he's got a strong arm. And that running ability means he can scout team as a running QB for us while he's cooking on the depth chart.

There was some talk that Nuss lost his mechanics due to bad habits and that was part of the reason his arm strength sucked in '25. But that's the worry for me with Nuss is I don't want a QB who can't get the deep outs on target if it's raining or his mechanics slip etc. And I'm not a heavy arm strength type either. But in the first practice this week some of Nuss' throws were shorted and first thing in my head was some of his throws from this year.

I do like his pocket presence. I like his vision as well. But since we need a project not necessarily someone who can play quickly, why not go after the better athlete with the better arm.

Them getting a top 10 pick in the event that Stafford gets injured depends on the who QB2 is. If it's Garoppolo, I think they'll still be very competitive, and win too much for a top 10 pick.

McVay is a strong enough coach that I don't see them getting a top 10 pick anytime soon.
'member when we thought we were getting a top 10 pick when Penix went down!

To me he looked pretty good for him but I still come back to him not looking like a starter in the league. He looks like the next Chase Daniels a guy who can stick as a backup for a long time and you're not devastated if he has to start a couple games.
This draft is loaded with career back up types it seems.

One guy who looks like a decent enough starter.
One guy who could be but not a lot of tape.
A handful of "lottery tickets" and a handful of Chase Daniels types.

I'm backing your idea. Make it happen! Would probably cost us 5 FRP's and McVays next son however

Interesting breakdown of Simpson. Not sure if it has been posted anywhere. If not, have a look.

Starting to really like the idea of drafting him to learn behind Stafford, even if they reach for him. Definitely looks like a good fit for the offense.

He is without a doubt a good fit for our offense. WCO type with enough arm for McVay.

My only prob with him is he's been overvalued in draft projections, because I think one year of starting and that one year being hit and miss is a concern. Also he's a bit on the small side. And it's not like his arm is strong enough to elevate him to that range either. He's got a good arm, and I'd like to have him on our depth chart, but I don't like the idea of taking him high.

There's other QBs in this class that translate better when draft value is considered, to my eye at least. But all that aside I do trust McVay with QBs so if he falls in love with Simpson during the pre-draft process I'll get behind it.

Feels like a good year to throw a dart at one of the toolsy prospects. Beck, Allar, Nussmeier are my picks. Especially in the second or third.

My February 1st. 2026 View

Either draft Ty Simpson or trade for Will Levis or sign Zach Wilson.
Otherwise, re-sign Garoppolo don't add another QB.

Wouldn't be surprised if they do both. Keep Jimmy draft Simpson or sign/trade for Levis/Wilson.

Beck and Nussmeier aren't toolsy. And I want no part of Allar before the latter part of Day 3. I want no part of Beck period. If Nussmeier were to drop to the 4th round, I might think about it.

Beck is absolutely undraftable with his shitty attitude. He's thrown everyone under the bus except himself, and he doesn't have Aaron Rodgers talent to justify it.

Beck, Allar, Nussmeir and Klubnik to me are lesser prospects than Will Howard, Riley Leonard and Quinn Ewers were last year and they were all 7th rounders
