The problem with trading up for QB is that there are two types of QBs that go there. You have projected elites, or blue chips if you will, and then you have the others. Nothing against those others, as they can work out, but for purposes of moving up you are paying an elite premium for the rarely prized options as they are not available in most drafts.
So any time there is a perceived blue chip QB on that board, getting into that pick is extremely hard to pull off. Historically the reason it happens is the QB refuses to play for the team with the pick. Elway did that. Manning as well. And if you end up with two QBs graded that high by teams then the same will go for the second pick as well, in that getting in there is gonna be tough as hell.
I think what we're going to do in this next draft is target and get after a guy like Dart, who was a bit underappreciated. So it won't be one of those rare elite prospects. It'll be some dude who has the skills McVay wants, which hopefully includes a big dick mentality in that pocket. And this time around they will aggressively position if necessary, the way the Giants just did for Dart, to get the guy they want. Sad thing is they probably need a LT as well.
