It’s all about cost for me as to whom to keep. Durant the best, but not if he’s way higher cost.
I just have no realistic idea what the market will pay for mccreary, Durant and the other team FA CBs.
If Forbes cap hit is under 3M, that seems like a no brainer to keep as depth (3-5 CB)

That would be a 2026 equivalent of signing Tutu. Waste of cap space and a move that will not translate into increased production on the field.
If the Rams do that I'll do the same thing I did when they inked Tutu. Sit back and wait to see it fail. Because while it may make the Rams feel more secure in the corner room it'll fail.
Much better would be going out in FA and signing a corner who fits what we need in this division. Rangy, physical, tackles well in space, can at least handle elite draws underneath with safety help and do a bit of zone/press to give our DC flexibility.
I’m too lazy to do a deep dive on market value so I just assumed there would be little demand for Durant as a $8-10m starter so was hoping he’d be gotten for ~$4m as CB3/4 on Rams.
Right on. And yeah if he were to re-sign with us on the cheap that would be fine. I just always assume the fact he's a Ram and FA being involved he'll end up overpaid.

Yeah, I've maintained that signing Tutu to that contract (I think we can all agree an expensive failure given hindsight) was mostly about operational flexibility and going into the draft and offseason knowing that the offense could look and function a certain way with Tutu playing meaningful snaps as the floor.
The draft provided us with Fergy and Mumph as pass catching options (no guarantee we would have gotten them) and with the advent of 13 personnel taking over and Mumph playing well in spots* it really relegated Atwell to the bench (the injury didn't help).
It was a bad contract but I can at least see the strategy behind it. I don't love paying Durant a chunk of change this offseason but I bet I'll be able to see the strategy behind it.
It's the moves where I think they're bad and I can't even understand the strategy that drive me batty. Thankfully, that doesn't really happen with Snead and McVay.
*Mumph being a spot starter was no guarantee, his slight frame and lack of top athleticism were marks against him but there was info on tape to show he had great route running ability and he showed that he was a willing blocker when he got here even if there's no meat on his bones.

Totally disagree there. Tutu was paid and did jack shit so comparing Durant to him is way off. Durant actually contributed. If we resign Durant, I'd personally wait to see the actual contract amount, FA additions, and drafted players prior to determining if its a good signing or not.

But I think Durant is going to cost more than he's worth. And if not, then maybe the Rams can circle back and add him on the cheap after the FA disinterest kicks his teeth down his throat. The dude has coverage skills, I have always given him cred for that, but he's inconsistent as hell and it's time for this defense to be shaped to stomp a mudhole in Shanny's ass. Meaning we need physical corners who can shut down the underneath and tackle well in space, but also who can match up on an island here and there at the least.

Totally agree moreso that the cost is the ultimate decider here. If Durant out prices himself, I definitely say move on. I most certainly don't want Durant as our #1 CB but at best 2nd/3rd CB if possible. I only say 2nd CB if he somehow improves on being inconsistent because he is. Durant has definitely shown flashes which is much better that some of our other CBs. I'm definitely with you on getting better and more physical CBs though. It will be interesting to see what the Rams do and to see how much they think Durant is worth. Maybe he needs better CBs to step up his play?
If Tampa's corner hits the market he'd plug in and fix so many of our problems day one. Then the rest of the spots they can fill in with the draft. So I'll be very surprised if they don't aggressively go after the top corner they prefer day one.

If Stafford is back, they HAVE to go all-in. The chances of a Super Bowl w/o him for a long time are slim. Spend on a top FA corner, then use #13 pick on another.

In The Ringer's rankings of FAs , he's one of 6 CBS, ranked #32 overall. The write-up is below. Alonte Taylor is #13, but he's a slot as well. Tiq Woolen is #14 and as has been said, that would kill two birds. Jaylen Watson is #18, but he may cost more than the others just because he's made big money already. Others are more slots so I think Dean is among the top 4 pure corners. I'd love one of them!!

Dean is a reliable outside corner who has played more than 5,000 snaps over his seven-year career. He’s allowed just one touchdown in coverage over the last two seasons, per PFF. Dean missed time last season with a hamstring injury, and he’s suffered hip and shoulder injuries this year. He’ll turn 30 next season, and while he’s a good football player at a valuable position, concerns surrounding his injuries and age could affect his market. Dean took a significant pay cut in 2025, reducing his salary from $12.5 million to $4.5 million, which voided the remaining year of his deal so he could be a free agent this offseason. I imagine he’s looking to cash in one more big multi-year deal. These days, starting-caliber corners are making $12 million per year if not more, and Dean could exceed that if teams are confident in his health.
I noticed Woolen came over to McVay after the game and I imagine he apologized for the taunting. McVay kind of shrugged him off, but the guy knows the Rams are one team that could bid up his services.
Make Jaylen Watson one of the highest paid CBs in the NFL and then use one of those 1st round selections to be the eventual replacement of someone who doesn't get a new deal because of it.
