What's the deal, are we using ARob correctly?

Pretty underwhelming showing through three games. After the entire offseason where by all accounts he was lighting it up and looking unstoppable, he has only 7 catches and 12 total targets through three games. Zero down the field shots, zero back shoulder type balls down the field. Seems like only in breaking dig-routes, the occasional crosser, and a goal line fade or two.

For how high the expectations were and how much money were paying him, does the fault lie with ARob, Stafford, or McVay? I saw people talking yesterday about how OBJ seemed like an immediate fit for this offense even though his usage wasn't high early. I would agree with this.

Thoughts on his outlook this year??

I just think it's a case of him and Stafford not yet having established chemistry together. If it's this way 12 games into the season, I'll definitely be concerned, but 3 games in I'm just going to stay in wait-and-see mode.

ARob had a TD called back week 2. Dropped an easy TD in week 3. Remember Stafford didn't participate in training camp so they're chemistry isn't where it will be mid season. I do wish we would take more shots to him down the field because he can excel there but it's early and not time to panic.

It is not time panic yet. It is still very early. We just finished week 3. It is a long season. And Stafford did not throw much if at all during the off-season due to his elbow. Chemistry is probably lacking between ARob and Stafford.

The Rams' pro scouting is impeccable. Almost everyone they bring in tends to really excel. Of those that don't, they still produce, even if not to the level that was expected (e.g. Marcus Peters). For this reason, I am still quite optimistic with Robinson. I think success is coming and he will end the year as a huge success. Time will tell.

But I would be lying if I said a bit of doubt is not starting to creep in.

A dropped TD in the end zone is not good... but it happens to everyone. What is worrisome is that after his dropped TD, Robinson seemed to fade away, not even getting on the field afterwards on some snaps, and playing frustrated / lacking in confidence. Expectations were sky high for ARob coming into the season. He was generally expected to be a huge weapon from the get-go. He is no doubt feeling some pressure to live up to that, and produce ASAP. I think he is in his own head somewhat and will explode when he loosens up.

He also looks somewhat slow to my eye, which is worrisome. Perhaps, because he is a big body, he is moving faster than he appears? His advance stats from week 1 were extremely impressive, in terms of how much separation he generated. The Bills secondary was beat up, but he essentially doubled the league average (and Cooper Kupp!) in separation generated week 1. So it would be premature, IMO, at least at this point, to conclude that he cannot play at a high level anymore. He was open all night in week 1 and Stafford never looked his way. I would be curious if anyone has the advanced stats from weeks 2-3?

Robinson is getting tons of looks in the red zone, so I have zero doubt he will pile up the TDs there. But he makes too much money to exclusively be a red zone threat, and surely he was brought in to be a big part of the passing game all over the field. Van Jefferson is not even playing right now, and will not play for several more weeks. Tutu appears to be a bust. Skow seems to have been converted into a FB. ARob should realistically be getting 8 to 12 targets per week. At least until Jefferson is back. It is concerning this is not occurring. I think still think the targets and production will come.

I’ll be honest - I was hoping to see more from him. But I won’t panic until week 15.

how long before obj and stafford became a threat? granted, r2 had several months to get to know the playbook and practice.

OBJ really seemed to know how to take advantage of all the attention on Kupp. But then again it took him a few weeks to get acclimated too....

.

Stafford threw a lot of interceptions targeting obj the first few games together.

Maybe he's taking a more cautious approach with Arob.

Stafford didn't throw at all during OTA's and was limited in camp. So I just think it will take time. So I am not worried yet.

AR is performing fine. He's blocking well, he's getting open, he just needs ti.e to gel with Stafford. Remember Kupp and Stafford were together all of the time in the summer of 2021. They went to great lengths to get their chemistry down. Robinson didn't get to do that.

This seems to be the excuse everyone is using, but it's not like he's a focal point of the offense and him and Stafford just aren't connecting. He has 12 targets through three games. 4 targets a game is okay for the #2 receiver in this offense? Higbee shouldn't have 24 targets to ARob's 12. Ben Skowronek has 13 targets. A 2nd year 7th rounder has more targets than our big free agent acquisition??

He needs more targets I don't wanna hear shit about chemistry. There's no way Higbee and Skow should have more targets. We made a point to integrate OBJ into the offense yet ARob seems like a $15M afterthought through 3 weeks.

Let’s look back on this in a few more weeks.

I wish he started hotter, and I sort of expected him to… but 3 games into the season… we haven’t even finished the appetizer yet.

OBJ didn't exactly light the world on fire in his first 3 games. We'll see ARob get his day soon. Would be nice to see vs the whiners.

Tutu will also see better days. One long TD pass or busted open screen YAC is in his future here. /dodges tomatoes

He'll come good.

On a more positive note, Kupp's looking just as good as he was last season.
And Skowronek is playing well with Higbee getting plenty of touches.
They might be contributing factors as to why the new boy isn't in on a great deal of action yet.

If he catches the TD that went through his fingers that game looks different for him. He looks like he knows the offense and is running the right routes. Could just be that on the plays where he is an early read he hasn't gotten separation or the defensive call was bad for him.

McVay will sort it. And Robinson will start showing. His skill set should jive with Stafford so I think it is too early to get worried.

This is my opinion as well. Goff had no problem distributing the ball around in 2017 with a new Kupp and Woods. Woods was an afterthought to Stafford last season, and now the same thing is happening to ARob. Last season Stafford went to Woods for one game, giving him over 100 yards that game, then nothing. That alone proves it's not a chemistry issue. What is making it so hard for our #2 receivers to get targets?

Kupp was absent last game for the first quarter last week bc IMO, McVay has forced Stafford to try and use other targets besides kupp. Seems like it's a comfort thing more than chemistry.
