I am OK with our Tackles... I think Jackson will be fine.

OGs are another issue altogether. Would be nice to get a very good vet OG just so they have some depth at this point because the cupboard is bare right now.

And yes, still banging the drum on a big back to help settle the run game.

This guy...

I've been banging the drum for a big back for years and a full back to go with him.

Snead often talks about roster building like a "big puzzle", with each added piece affecting all the others.

I think their main goal is getting talent at good value.

Rams need help at OL, RB, and Edge. They'd gladly take help at any of the three. The main question IMHO is how to get the best value.

Sounds like Rams were willing to go big in pursuit of CMC. Then they were willing to go big in pursuit of Burns. While neither move has worked out, I suspect they are still willing to go big in a trade. The big question is if they can find a trade partner at the right price.

Edge first, OL, then RB.
I don't like running backs. Meaning, I wouldn't ever draft one in the first two rounds unless I thought they were an all pro sort of talent. I would not trade picks for a RB.
I think a consistent pressure element from the EDGE could really take this D up a notch.
I feel (based on nothing really) the Rams edge this year has been really focused on not losing the edge and maintaining run D first. With returning players to the secondary over the next couple of weeks it will be interesting to see if we see the rush more. More blitzes or just aggressive rush from the outside given a healthy secondary.
A guy like Tunsil would be great but I doubt the Rams have the draft capital to land him. Bookend LT rarely get traded. Outside of that, I would do a solid depth guy like a Wynn who has plenty of experience, could start or provide depth.
It is interesting to me that McVay has elected to go with Kolone over the vet they signed, only to cut Kolone and keep the Vet who hasn't played. Aboushi was only put in after injury forced him in. After two week of prep with the starting line it will be interesting to see how he performs vs SF.

Because the Rams won the super bowl, and we need to upgrade some positions, I'm leery about investing a lot of draft capital, unless it will nearly assure us of a major improvement and a possible title defense.

Both times McSnead went "all in", thy got to the super bowl, in 2018 and 2021. I don't think you can go all in too many times sustain it.

Maybe the Rams will get some upgrades before the trade deadline but it might be tough with our lack of high draft picks.

The CMC and Cooks reports tied to us are disappointing to me. Those seem like moves that reinforce losing to SF some more.

Shane was on yesterday. Watched and recorded it. Holds up!

Alan Ladd, Van Heflin, Jean Arthur, Jack Palance, Ben Johnson. They were great!

OL is our biggest need, but I think its unlikely that we will obtain a top-notch starting OG or OT who can be plugged in midseason and really change our fortunes.

I think a pass rusher would be much more likely to have an immediate impact, as would a RB.

So, with that in mind, I'll go EDGE, RB then OT/OG.

I think you can find a Guard that offers the Rams a better option then what we have presently. But Edge is where the Rams need to go first and then everything else trickles down from there.

You might get a better player, but its tough for an OL to jump into a new unit and immediately play in sync with his linemates. I'm not saying I would oppose an upgrade, I just don't know that it would have the immediate impact of other positions.

There are a lot of other contenders with holes on interior of the offensive line. There are only a few bad teams that have guards worth trading for (or contenders with a surplus)

Here's the list I can think of:
  • Ben Cleveland (BAL) - might be the best of the bunch, probably lots of competition
  • Austin Corbett (CAR) - what a sad admission if it happens
  • Jackson Carman (CIN) - recent 2nd round pick, can't crack an OL that isn't very good, not sure he's better than what's left on the Rams
I'm sure there are more that I can't think of. There are a bunch of OTs available of varying quality (and price). Maybe adding one of them allows the Rams to shuffle people around and improve the guard position.

I'm guessing OL is a place that the Rams will get the least bang for their buck unless they hit on a reclamation project like Carman. It's their biggest need, but hardest to fill.

Laremy Tunsil would be the only o-linemen that would be a huge upgrade that the Texans may entertain trading. Problem is, he probably cost a shit ton in draft capital. What direction bdo we go? It all depends on what teams are asking in return for any position we trade for.

We may not need a LT. Jackson is poised to show what he can do in some big games ahead. SF and KC are going to be playoff game intensity. So let's see what he's got.

Right now both Tackles and Center look solid to good to me. The guards are depressing but last game Evans was out there moving like his ass was on fire. And Abubu held it down too. Maybe all these new faces in new roles lead to some actual wins up front for us.

Abubu ? Isn't he a 7/11 manager on the Simpson's ?

Malibu:

You make a good point re opening day OL— would it have been good enough? I think not. It wasn’t impressive at any point during the first 2 games.

Our OL could be better than we think NEXT year, but we just have to ride it out this year with a couple of guys returning from IR.

Because…
What are the Rams willing to give up? WHO are the Rams willing to give up? The Rams lack the draft capital to land anyone significant so they would have to part with talent to get talent. You end up chasing your tail.

That’s why I suggested trying to land nelson of indy. Unless you’re planning on a guy like that, what is really gonna make this OL significantly better. Suggesting something like that gets people saying we can’t afford it (one way or the other).

When it comes to edge, again, who will make us significantly better? I mean every team has caught on to the deep shell that is now a league wide scheme. When coupled with the avoidance of #99, there’s no way to get pressure on two step drops. Our offense needs to score points to make our pass rush relevant—force passing situations requiring a deeper drop.

So… moves for the sake of making moves doesn’t interest me. The Rams need to get healthier and they need to score more, give away less.

That's a big if in an UDFA with one recent start at LT. I mean no disrespect to Jackson he has done whatever McVay has asked for and like everyone in the Ram family I hope he succeeds because it would be the steal of the century.
