Yesterday on the pre game show JB Long was asked who he thought they would draft with the Atlanta pick and I dont think he has inside he info. He said without hesitation a WR FWIW.
Our corners (like many corners) just love a solid pass rush. I think that our guys in particular seem to get a little extra juice when pressure helps cause a slightly errant pass, and we get a couple of picks. They seem to pick up their games after creating turnovers.I've said at least 10x here that Spoon is a guy who can smother good matchups consistently, but those good matchups are your pedestrian wideouts who don't bring real juice or elusiveness in the pattern. He's a seasoned corner, that experience is nice. But he is not gonna handle the top draw.
This is the problem with our corners. We have a bunch of CB2/3 types and lack the stud back there. And it is why the moment Lake went out and the slot role suddenly was not locked down, that it caused a chain reaction of uncertainty among these dudes. When we face a team that has a real threat at WR, even a more mediocre team like Carolina, gameplanning is a nightmare.
Before the season we knew damn well this secondary wasn't good enough. Well guess what. They're not good enough. Our corners fuckin suck. And without Lake out there the rest of these guys are running around like chickens with their heads cut off. Even 1.5 seconds after the snap.
Lake was the leader. The dude breathing assurance and confidence into the other ten. If nothing else, this stretch of games tells us how important it is the Rams get his deal done.
Going forward, and as it pertains to getting this defense playing how they were earlier this season... We must have Lake back and healthy. Obviously. And from there, one of these corners is going to need to step up, at the least. And on top of that the rush must improve. Been saying this, they are not getting pressures at the same clip. Way too many QBs makin ham sammiches in the backfield.
Depending on who's left on the draft board, I'm going to say I'd rather go after difference makers first than a need. I'd personally say get Love so you have a dual threat that can be an outlet asset like a CMC then go CB with the 2nd 1st rd pick. WR or OT with the 2nd rd pickThat Lake is very important to this defense. Ever since he got hurt, this defense has been shit. We need to resign him as soon as possible. We also need him back for the playoff if we want to go anywhere. We also need Witherspoon back too, does anyone know why he's not playing?
Next year's draft, we need to get a WR and CB in the first round. We need to get help for Puka. He's the best WR in the NFL, but the way he plays, he could become another Cooper Kupp. Have a few good years but always hurt after that. We need a another good WR to some of the pressure off of him.
Elijah Sarratt/Indiana - would be a good R2/R3 pick.Depending on who's left on the draft board, I'm going to say I'd rather go after difference makers first than a need. I agree with your take. Corum is KW with a little extra burst.KW had 2 fairly long runs, both getting to the second level, with 1 man to beat.
Corum has displayed that quick cut and burst of speed to make the defender miss, whereas KW didn't quite have it and was tackled. That's all that I was saying.
Exactly why I'd get Love if he's still there. He'd be a threat in the run and pass game to break one which could cause hesitation on that 2nd level and cause more room for Puka, Adams, and Ferguson. Also if the D goes back and decides to defend that, dump it off and let Love punish the D with his speed.A Safety being in position is what I’m referencing. It’s when he gets that one-on-one after getting to the second level. All of our backs very rarely if ever can make that last guy or last two defenders miss. Every Single Game this happens.
I haven’t looked at the yards after contact. I feel like he’s good getting a couple in a phone booth when nothing is there. When the OL blows open a huge lane he gets 8-10.
Same with our TE’s, return men and our WR’s….in terms of Yards after catch.
Puka gets his YAC. 3rd in the league.
The next guy is Colby friggin Parkinson somewhere around 80th.
All of our skill positions as a whole are good but slow and lacking. Love Kyren. Want more. Need more IMO.
KY is a good back. No one is saying he isn’t. It’s not negativity. It’s objective and a middle ground evaluation. He has obvious strengths and some obvious weaknesses.
I also like Chris Brazzell from Tennessee.Elijah Sarratt/Indiana - would be a good R2/R3 pick.
Agree 100% on BY. Package him, a 1 and a 2 for Maxx Crosbie. If Stafford and Davante come back, I think the draft will be skewed toward defense early to maximize our window. CB, S, Edge (Byron would command more than we should pay him IMO....good player but doesn't get enough consistent pressure), ILB (can see McVay finally saying enough with the run defense regression we've had lately).
We will need depth at WR and OL but that can come later.

Trade a good pass rusher, a 1st and a 2nd for a guy who will be 29 at the start of next season AND will eat our cap?
Pass.
Jeremiyah Darnell Love is that RB. He can do it all. I also like that Notre Dame did not overuse him because of Jadarian Price. Would be nice to add a little love to the RB room.I have learned(or known for a couple yrs)….
This offense can’t score TD’s between the 20’s unless it’s a pass. We need an elite RB. I’ll keep banging the table.
100%. It's telling that Hunter has yet to get even 1 snap in garbage time. I disagree with @Mojo Ram though, KW & BC are not the same type of player--BC's vision is good, but KW's is elite. KW's shiftiness is very good, but BC's is great & has an extra burst KW doesn't.Jeremiyah Darnell Love is that RB. He can do it all. No bigger fan of Kyren than me, but if there's a way to get Love, they should do itExactly why I'd get Love if he's still there. You just want an all Domer backfield. No bigger fan of Kyren than me, but if there's a way to get Love, they should do it
It’s NOT telling about J. Hunter. We have a solid RB group.100%. It's telling that Hunter has yet to get even 1 snap in garbage time. I would love to get Love + keep both BC & KW in the stable. Love + BC/KW is a tremendous 1/2a/2b punch.
You just can't pass on a great RB when they're available. We all felt Zac Stacy's "yikes" when Gurley was drafted, some even complained (iirc) that our RB room was fine & this was a luxury pick, lol. Ditto the AD99 pick--many complained that our DL was already stacked.
But at this point it looks like we'd have to package our later #1 to move up for Love, smh. That loss to ATL is gonna hurt in more ways than one.
