Currently Matt Gay counts about $2.5M against the cap and that is projected to double to $5.1M as he enters free agency.

With the cap maneuvers we need to make, and the desire to add a FA or two… can we afford a premium kicker salary?

A good kicker is important… they can make or break the game on those last second kicks.

Touchbacks on kickoffs are important too.

Gay is great at all of it. Accurate and can kick long. He has a short memory on misses too. It’s hard to imagine him not coming back, but I worry he is out of our $ range.

I still haven’t voted. :D

I want them to keep Gay but wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t.

They found Gay after he was cut by Tampa. I figure that they think they will do it again.

However, if fixing the offense is the focus, aren’t field goals and extra points technically offense?

Once the Ramsey trade is complete, they will extend Matt Gay & Greg Gaines.

I'd like to believe our offense is gonna be so good an elite kicker isn't necessary. But I don't see us all of a sudden turning it around to be a top scoring team so easily. I think Gay should be one of the priorities. A good kicker can be the difference in at least a couple games. And even more valuable should they make the playoffs.
 
In a crap year he was one of the few bright spots.

Plus, he KO'd the return man in the Packer game and prevented a TD.

Pay the man and put it on my tab.

I'd like to have him back but wouldn't want to break the bank to do it. I would offer an extension that gives him a slight bump (1 to 1.5 mil more) in annual salary, but not 5.1 mil.

His current salary puts him in the middle of the league, just slightly below Robbie Gould, Jake Elliot and Harrison Butker. That's pretty good company.

When you are cutting all pro's to find a few million of extra cap funds I just do not see how they can pay the premium for a placekicker. How would they do that when so many more fat cap teams need placekickers like him? Pretty sure he will not take an IOU.

Looking forward to seeing Chase Blackburn & the energy he brings to The Rams.
Last years coaching staff was really chill. Olsen & Robinson did work extra with Sko & Kupp respectively.
