I don't see it within the realm of possibility but I have always been massively disappointed that Quinn and Donald never really had the chance to compliment each other.
Too bad the league decided letting Tackles hold DEs around the neck was more exciting than sacks...

I would personally love this. But I just don't see a path for it to happen.
Good point, @badnews , the headlock helps ol Havenstein to be effective but ya it really sucks for guys like Quinn who rely on their bendyness to get around the edge. I wish they would count it as holding, make these LT's & RT's work a bit harder to stop rushers.
I wonder now how Quinn was able to get his sacks this year? maybe being oppo Mack helped him?

I'm glad that Quinn has had a resurgence of his career and made a lot of money. He was great in his early years, although I thought he was washed up when the Rams released him, but I would not want him back at this point. Too old, and too expensive. Of course, in Snead and McVay I trust.

Wait a second! Wait a god-damned-second!!!

This isn't a private discussion? We are being watched!?!

I knew it. They said I was paranoid and insane! But I knew it!!!

Seriously, here is what I was trying to say.
The Rams have about $7M of cap space as of this moment, and need only about $2M to sign their Draft-class.
Donald and Kupp currently account for over $45M of the Rams' 2022 salary cap.
Donald and Kupp currently account for $42M of the Rams' 2023 salary cap.
None of this is opinion. Just reading numbers off sites like Spotrac.

The Rams have been clear in their intention to extend both Donald and Kupp; and have expressed optimism that these deals will get done. Accordingly, my expectation is that these extensions will get done.

My first ... and really ONLY ... prediction is just a guess based on what I have seen thus far. The extensions for Donald and Kupp will reduce their combined 2022 salary cap hits from the current $45M-plus; and will probably lower the current $42M for 2023.

I am not expressing whether the above prediction/guess is good or bad ... right or wrong.
The salary cap is a myth!

And those deals won't get finalized until the Rams are done building the roster, imo.

There are still a few FA edge guys out there.. from Very Veteran guys.. to interesting younger guys who could benefit from playing next to Donald and for the Rams. Takk McKinley? Melvin Ingram or Clowney? Hard to say right now.
And waiting this long may add some $$ to their haul, teams can up their offers knowing it wont affect the comp pick formula.

I do think they have someone on the back burner, two someones actually. Probably Mathieu given that he's still unsigned, and maybe Odell. So yeah I could see them extending AD & Kupp, paying them some bonus money, and recouping cap relief in the short term.

Cap mastery like the Rams have requires a loaded owner willing to shell out the diniero and the Rams have that owner.

I'd love to have Quinn back. The problem is his age and contract. Also, why would he be okay with a trade to the Rams when McVay decided he wasn't good enough and dealt him?

Probably because he takes it as a sign that McVay's opinion changed about him or because he gets to play for the champs!

Donald and Kupp currently count for more than $45M of the Rams' 2022 cap..

They are both expected to get huge extensions.

Typically, those types of deals have lower cap hits for the first year or two. While they will cash-in, their 2022 cap hits should decrease; and the Rams should have more cap space.

It's not a perfect example because he was entering the final year of his contract but Stafford carried a $23M cap hit for 2022 before his extension. Stafford got a huge deal, and big-up-front-$ so he is happy but his 2022 cap-hit went-down to $13.5M. So the Rams created $9.5M of additional 2022 cap space with that extension.
The only thing is they cant push too much to next yrs cap because last I looked, OTC has the Rams with something like $25M of cap room next yr with only 38 players under contract. I think they are projecting a cap of $220M vs this yrs $208M.... And still need to sign OBJ.

So likely the cap won't get too much higher than that projection so next yrs cap situation will be worse.
