I'd let him go. I'm luke-warm on Morris. He was winning me over towards the end of the year with the defence's much improved play... but then proved against the 49ers in the last game of the season, for the 100th time, that he cannot defend the methodical type offenses that want to dink and dunk in the short to intermediate range. He has the rest of the playoffs to win me over. But Kyler Murray type offenses were never the type the Rams had to improve against, as good as last night's showing was. Let's see how the Rams do vs. Tampa Bay, GB, and/or San Francisco...

I am not sure turnover - yet again! - is a good thing. But Morris is not a good enough DC that I'd want to block someone from a promotion. Good organisations that want to continue attracting top-end talent will celebrate the success of their own, even if it leads to better opportunities elsewhere.

It's unreal how many coaching assistants the Rams have lost yet remained competitive year after year.

Interviews and interview requests should not be allowed until the off-season, IMO.
I don’t care if he goes, but he’s likely to take some Rams assistants with him. That would suck.

I'm STILL pissed about the 9ers game.. but.. they've been good enough against pretty much everyone else.
The interesting thing will be next season. I would make Von one of the top two offseason priorities.. bring him back and almost your entire defense comes back.. .and if you have the same DC, that'll be interesting to see what they can build.
What will be interesting for me is to see how they address the safety/corner positions this offseason. I think the tackling ability of the depth in those positions needs upgraded along with instincts. Hopefully Rochelle can make a leap forward but injuries are inevitable. These smurfy backups don’t inspire confidence against the Niners bruising running style.

I’m rooting for the Titans to get knocked out of the playoffs. If the Rams were to reach the Super Bowl I don’t want the Rams DBs trying to tackle Derrick Henry.

Don't think they can.
I wasn’t sure if they could or not.

It would be nice to get picks for him. Like I mentioned, he’d be liable to take some Rams assistants with him. That would suck if Henderson or Evero ended being his DC. Or McConnell his OC.

I think the long-standing rule has been that a team can not block a coach from an up-grade in level.

So, a Coordinator can not be blocked from a head coaching opportunity (Staley last year).

A position coach can not be blocked from being a Coordinator.

However, a Coordinator can be blocked from being hired by another team as a Coordinator because that's a Lateral-Move. I believe Staley was interested in bringing O'Connell with him to the Chargers but the Rams did not want to lose both their coordinators and blocked the move.

Interesting, after the 2017 season, McVay could have blocked his OC (Matt Lafleur) from going to Tennessee as Vrabel's OC. Technically, that was a Lateral-Move but McVay realized it was a good opportunity for Lafleur to call plays and be the top-offensive-guy to a young defensive-Head Coach.

I thought that spoke really well of McVay, allowing a young coach to take advantage of a good opportunity. One year later, Lafleur had the Packers' job and has won 40 regular season games in three years.

Just think. McVay could be in the same position this year. Would he block O’Connel a second year if Morris were to get hired and want McConnel to come along.

This early interview rule is great for playoff assistants and coordinators but it’s a punch in the gut for playoff coaches. They need to focus on the games ahead not lining up possible replacements.

Imo if a team wants to hire a good coordinator away from a contender then they should have to wait and not interfere with games. Sure it may push their progress back a bit but it’s the risk/reward scenario. If they want someone badly enough they will wait.

Yeah you can only block for lateral moves I think with an exception if they'll gain play calling duties in a lateral move. Can't block a position coach to coordinator or coordinator to head coach. There's something with the 1 person given the assistant head coach title too I forget the details that person may be blockable also.

You will never build a dynasty by losing coaches and top players every season. I guess that's the point but I don't have to like it.

I don't think McVay will block a lateral play calling move for OConnell if he gets another offer. Unless it is really late like after a deep playoff run where replacements are scarce.

Like if for example he got an offer this week, I would expect McVay to tab a guy like Jay Gruden and keep rolling.

Don’t think McVay would block O’Connell two years in a row. Can’t get talented young coaches if you don’t let them pursue their careers. Blocking Staley’s attempt to get him was a one off for McVay imo because Staley was our DC, not fair to lose both coordinators to one team and in the same town.

If O'Connell moves on, I'd LOVE for McVay to poach Bobby Turner from SF for the OC position.

That SF run game is ridiculous and I'd love to have a solid run guy to balance McVay's tendency to get pass happy.

I don't think we get a pick for him, but have to dig up the prior thread on this to be sure.

Either way, it sucks to keep losing continuity, but not the worst thing in the world to have the reputation that the best minds can come here to strut their stuff and get a gig.

I’ve always believed Raheem Morris was a perfect fit. Have hated the Haters, but now some want him to stay. LMAO —

Yeah - Good luck. Brown is a guy who stands in the way.

Well he could lose both this year to the same town.
