Aaron Donald makes shocking Kane West move amid contract situation with Rams

While Aaron Donald and his camp work on a new contract with the Los Angeles Rams, the defensive tackle made another offseason decision to further grow his brand.

Appearing in the I Am Athlete Podcast, Donald revealed that he has joined Kanye West’s Donda Sports along with his wife. The Rams superstar shared his reason for the decision to switch agencies, all while highlighting his excitement on what they can do beyond just football.

“It was an opportunity that came to us, me and [my wife], and it made sense. Hearing the whole spectrum of what they were going to be bringing, the whole family atmosphere that they got in Donda Sports. Not just me, but my wife being a part of that. For me it was a no-brainer,” the defensive maestro said, via TMZ.

“I think it’s a helluva opportunity to open up a lot of different doors and a lot of different things outside of football that I wanna be involved in, that I wanna do, that my wife wanna do. So to be a part of that, and be one of the best first athletes to be a part of that, it’s pretty dope. We’re excited about it, and we’re gonna see where this thing goes.”

Of course one of the biggest questions about the Aaron Donald-Kanye West partnership is whether they’ll be creating custom cleats together. While the Rams vet said nothing has been finalized, he did share that they are “talking” about it.

Getting a big star like Donald is certainly huge for Donda Sports. However, it is definitely set to benefit Donald as well as he taps into the wide reach and influence of Kanye in the entertainment industry and outside football.

While details are scarce as of the moment, it’s hard not to get excited what cool projects Donald and Kanye will work on.

Wow that's an interesting development.

Kanye is a beast at producing music.... idk about sports management. Curious to see how this goes.

I completely agree with your comment above but the poster was responding to OldNotDead’s post; and OldNotDead has predicted Havenstein would be traded or released since 2020.

Aaron Donald is one of the biggest stars in the NFL, and now he’s partnering with one of the most well-known celebrities in the entertainment industry. Donald revealed on the “I Am Athlete” podcast that he’s signed with Kanye West’s Donda Sports.
Donda Sports is a marketing agency, so this won’t change who Donald is represented by when it comes to contract negotiations. It’s more about off-the-field opportunities for the Rams star.

“It was an opportunity that came to us, me and (my wife), and it made sense,” he said. “And hearing the whole spectrum of everything that’s going on and what they were going to be bringing, the family atmosphere that they got in Donda Sports. Not just me, but my wife being a part of that. For me, it was a no-brainer.”

Donald is still expected to return to the Rams in 2022 despite a contract extension not yet being done, but he’s preparing for his future after football by making this move. He hopes it’ll open up doors for him with opportunities he wants to take advantage of off the field.
“I think it’s a hell of an opportunity to open up a lot of different doors and a lot of different things outside of football that I wanna be involved in, I wanna do, that my wife wanna do,” he continued. “So, to be a part of that, and be one of the best first athletes to be a part of that, it’s pretty dope. We’re excited about it, and we’re gonna see where this thing goes.”

Obviously, one of the first questions asked about this partnership is whether Donald will get a signature shoe. While that may not necessarily be in the works right now, they’re talking about a bunch of things already.

“Ain’t nothing in full circle, but we’ve been talking,” Donald said. “We got a lot of different things that’s planned. My wife’s been talking and getting things done, it’s about to be coming to fruition soon.”

Why do you want Havenstein traded or say that he's gone? I gotta disagree there. He's a legit starter for us and McVay lives the guy. You don't get rid of quality tackles (left or right side). Big Rob has been a rock for us. Honestly would be as dumb as when we got rid of Saffold.
It’s called OCD. And it’s exhausting.

Assuming he's gone when he's been a favorite of McVay's is just crazy to me. We can more than afford to sign Big Rob back. Saying not for long when we just had Big Whit until he retired doesn't tell me that we'll move on from a very good right tackle. Having good tackles are key to protecting Stafford for the type of offense we wanna run.

Hope this isn’t a Yoko, or Brenda situation.

.

It's always about the money.

But AD deserves it more than most.

You think the rams would have loved to have an AD in superbowl 36 when they let that fairy march down the field for the winning fg? He's the best closer in the game.

It's one of those situations where you could see it either way. Rarely does a player like Havenstein who could command top end money get another contract and if they do it's signed before they hit free agency. With our love of comp picks he could fetch a nice one. It all comes down to replacing him if McVay and Snead think they have somebody who can do it we might see him leave. I'm not advocating for it but I could see how people would think he's as good as gone with how our team does business.

I’m sorry… does anyone here actually believe that Aaron Donald bought a new upgraded mansion in LA and signed with Kanye’s agency so he can retire?

If so…can I interest you in an oceanfront condo in Kansas?

I don’t think he’s finding a gig in retirement at $22M/yr.

When he says “He doesn’t need football to be fine” is also true. I just ain’t buying retirement.

I love AD, but he's speaking out of three sides of his mouth. 1. He says he wanted to be done at 8 years. 2. He will come back, but only to win. 3. He wants to be paid more (even though he highest paid at his position already). Getting a big raise with no extension would honor Numbers 1 and 3 but completely undermines Number 2 (no $$ left to field a superteam). It sounds like he wants a 3 yr deal for $90m with $30 guaranteed (basically year to year for $30m per).

With his old signing bonus still counting against the new contract, that would make his 2022 cap something like $42.5m. I keep trying to figure his angle, but it doesn't add up.

That's why athletes shouldn't talk about their contracts in the media. They don't project themselves very well.

The thing is the way he makes it sound and I know it may be posturing that he don't care either way and that's fine he has his golden ticket having said that though that attitude while it works to his advantage I am thinking the hold up may not be the money as much as the commitment.

if he just wants to play one more year fine but if he is requesting a multi year deal or the Rams are asking "what assurance do we have that you will play this contract out' it's hard to negotiate that way .

I'm not a cap guy but then why not redo his whole contract for the money he wants and they agree on and rip up the other contracts moving the numbers over but making it year to year so it's a player option and if he hangs them up it has no effect on our cap?

Any cap gurus want to chime in? Is it even possible?

You know, if AD isn’t hungry to play the rest may be moot. Sometimes the want to play just leaves you. The fact he hasn’t agreed to a new bonus contract looms larger everyday. AD has plenty of money and may want to try look at other opportunities. I am not sure he really cares much either way about playing or not. I don’t think the new home matters much in what he will eventually decide to do. We tend to take AD for granted. I think doing so is unwise and unfair.
