James Cameron Aliens GIF by 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment

Think it’s friendly?

Should I ask him if it’s flying spheres on our coast?
Get him a bottle of wine and put on a Sinatra album.

We're about to get disclosure and the average citizen is going to realize that these things are real. And when that happens the people who have been downplaying their reality or actively participating in branding any discussion of them as being insane will end up acting like "oh hey well we all knew it was coming." But that's where threads like this are valuable. Where you can look back and see that it was anything but obvious prior.

I've been hearing this for 30 years.

Still waiting.

I've always told my kids that IF an alien ship arrives in their lifetime here on Earth to be afraid. Some will think I'm a dick for doing that, but I think there's reason to feel that way.

IF we were to encounter another planet with less-developed life right now, what would happen is we would fly down and eventually take the planet as our own. Why? Because of its value. Just like we saw with the colonization of America. It's not a question of how it would go, but rather whether we would, as a species, be able to control our greed. And I think the answer is we would not control our greed, because we as a species never have.

And why am I so sure that an alien species would be sort of assholes like us? Because intelligence is a byproduct of hunting and killing to live. You have to think in order to survive as a hunter. You don't have to think in order to survive as a leaf eater. So if we are blessed enough to encounter another species (I say blessed because time is the issue, namely whether two species happen to exist at the same moment in vast oceans of time), there's a good chance things will start well and end badly, sort of like the Americas. History is a good teacher there IMO.

Now I'll admit that there might be that evolved level of society that we haven't sniffed yet, where we master not only the technologies but also the social side to become something different than we have been. So if there are visitors who aren't taking over Earth, that means they are probably one of two things...

1. Extremely highly evolved. This would be a really good sign too btw, not only for us not becoming dinner or slaves, but because then there is hope that we also might get there and maybe they'll help us out at some point.

2. Higher dimensional beings. This removes them from the behaviors I would associate with a predatory species who develops enough technology to travel the stars and enough cultural advances to avoid killing themselves with said technology.

Went on a bit of a run there I realize. But it's something I think about lol. Oh and here's another article on the San Diego incidents as well as on the Navy's approach to this and some other stuff. People say "where is the proof?" Well those fighter incidents are pretty fucking good proof IMO.

I've read of a legit hypothesis as to why the Fermi Paradox might be disproved that makes sense to me and it's called the Dark Forest hypothesis. The idea is that Earth has been protected from discovery throughout history, except for the last 100 years (radio waves have transmitted to a distance of 200 light years.)
This hypothesis destroys the idea of some benevolent Star Trek Galactic Council of ET's, but promotes the game theory primary objective of survival. When encountering a planet that sustains life , especially similar to your own, and sentient life is advancing rapidly. I would think especially if it has achieved an equivalent level of technology/science, destroy it is a rival species before it rises to do the same to you. Habitable planets are a rare thing and a valuable prize. This mindset should temper our yearning to communicate and to expose ourselves in the Dark Forest to predators.
I still don't know if I believe any of it. It seems like revelations by our govt have been used to distract from political issues in a "Wag the Dog" type fashion. There is a science fiction trilogy by Liu Cixin, starting with the Three Body Problem that goes into great detail about these ideas.

There is truth to the theory in that life is competitive. And in that competition survival is the sole purpose.

Where it gets murky is intelligence changes the rules. The dominance it provides brings rules of softer behavior. Greater the dominance the more thoughtful the rule set.

So if a species is very old and powerful there is a chance they are benevolent.

Also I think if there are multiple species alive in this time and space, they will be witnessing our ascent. Because we would as well.

But is our ascent too rapid in their eyes? I remember when my wife was in some computer programming class in 1999, the prof confidently proclaimed that chip processing speed was reaching limits as to how fast they could get.
lol.
I think you are anthropomorphizing alien species possible behavior. They may be here only for resource extraction and we are in the way? If it is up to Earth at all, there is no way we trust in alien benevolence. They don't think like us and their purpose is not our purpose.

Yes it is total guesswork. We know nothing. Many even think there is no life.

As to too fast or slow I doubt intelligent life is so prevalent that a species has an expectation window for specific milestones. More likely is that ascension is rare enough that the older civilizations are very interested in witnessing it.

Not a fan of it. Think it is pseudo science. But who knows.
I agree in terms of being a pseudo-science.
But....who knows?
I like trying new things and learning stuff.
I always go into things like this with as close I can get to zero expectations.
With fringy weird things....Im usually not disappointed and nothing comes of most of them, haha.
Nothing meaningful at all so far.
But, its like all things like this where process cant really be measured....results are always open to interpretation.
How much was valid and how much was ones own bias or wishful thinking?
Anyway, unless something strikes me sinister or a dark organ, I will try it.
We are in a world full of light we cant see and sounds we cant hear.....good to open minded.

Exploitation.

All humans do it, regardless of race, culture, education or lack of it. I would especially put early explorers in this category of hyper-exploiters. Lust for acquisition generates reasonings and rationalizations as to why satisfying that lust is a good thing for humanity. In regard to alien visitors, we don't know if they think and act like we do, but humans have to react to a superior alien species as though they will exploit the Earth. This mindset is for our own preservation.
