He made promises to AD, Stafford, And Von Miller on the Victory float to "run it back." If those players are gone and the TV money and the comparative low hours worked to be a commentator are available, I would say it's better than a 50% chance he goes. I guess we'll see if he's willing to start from scratch with unproven talent, or take the TV deal.
I don't think McVay is the kind of guy who counts his hours vs his pay. He seems like the type who loves what he does and only knows one way of doing it, that being all-in.

When his time inevitably comes to a close with us I figure he'll do a year or two of TV then get the itch and go back. And what will drive him out won't be certain stars retiring. Rather it will be the CAP aligned against him with a spaghetti mess of contracts from taking shots. So for right now Les needs to be careful in awarding the contracts, and who is being paid. If you move for someone this year keep it to cheap options or guys you are comfortable paying.

How well the Rams do that will figure in to that equation of whether he is lured away this offseason or maybe a couple down the road. I hope to have him as long as possible.

Hypothetical while we wait:
If the Rams don't manage to get an edge pass rusher... Would you trade a 3rd for da'ron Payne (sp)? Could at least collapse the interior of we can't get edge help. Him next to Donald would be impossible to double team.
Not a terrible idea but how is Da'Ron Payne as a pass rusher? Admittedly don't know much about his game.

Apparently the FO and even miller didn’t think he was going to be a rental. They put a lot of time and $$$ into an offer he turned down. That fucked them over for other FAs because it took so long to play out.

I probably wait in order to better evaluate Bobby Brown's development. I'm guessing at least one of Gaines or A'Shawn Robinson will be lost to free agency following the season, so the need for solid additional interior help still exists, but I want to find it without using either of our 2 top 2023 draft picks. jmo.

Ok, just looked up some stuff about Da'Ron Payne......shit looks like we should be talking to Washington too maybe? Crazy stats. Ram_rally maybe onto something......alright we need some news hahahaha

Not exactly.
They could only get a 5th back for Von because of his age.
They can get a 3rd for Chubb.
Excuse me, I was talking about the formula behind the move and not so much which pick. My apologies.

I guess we'll see. Situations change as we get older. His wife and future kids may make a compromise very attractive. Being in football and talking about it for a few hours on the weekend and being available to the family the rest of the week, might become irresistible.

Makes sense. Just killing time. Payne is a monster on the interior though. Him and Donald would be an absolute load to deal with.

There’s not many teams who are at the point of sunsetting the season (e.g. Houston, Carolina, Jax, Detroit, Denver) so unless an offer is too good to pass up why not ride out the season with current rosters.

That’s the point; and it’s a big difference. It’s also why I believe it would take more than a third round pick to get Chubb.
I don’t disagree. But they get that 3rd sooner and it’s higher than a comp.
I would think Chubb is worth a second.

I'd love to get Sweat but I think Payne is the one on the chopping block. Our interior would be so nasty.

I think the difference between our approach for this season is that you are far more willing to spend big on what I may consider rental players that likely don't get us to the Big Show anyway. Sure, someone like Chubb will undoubtedly help our pass rush to a large degree this season, but with our OL I don't have the confidence that just a DE and a RB will take us where we want to ultimately go.
I'd be all in on Brian Burns if the price was right, although I don't believe he gets us to the S.B. this year either, but at least he offers a long term solution to our future pass rush needs. jmo.

Chubb is rt there with burns as you know I love but Chubb not that far off at 26 still foundational. I hear you though

Depends on what's being given like you said. Do you want a third round comp pick for Chubb or a second and a third.

If we could get him for a mid-round 2024 pick and a late 2023 pick, then I'd be all over it.

How sure were you that Von Miller wouldn't be a rental ?
The Rams are facing significant 2023 CAP costs without Chubb being added to the list, although a huge new back-loaded contract probably is enough to get him on-board for another 3 or 4 years. If Rams management believe he has the same future potential as Brian Burns, then I'd be OK with it, but I'd still rather not trade our 2023 3'rd round pick if we can push that down the road to 2024. jmo.

I can respect that philosophically we are similar but I do believe for Chubb I'd see that as a future piece. The window of Mcvay Snead AD Kupp Stafford Ramsey is about 4-5 years or start unloading for picks but I don't think that happens with Mcvay here and the window gets very narrow when AD leaves.

That's an awfully high price for a half-season rental of Chubb should it work out that way. With Von Miller we lost 2 draft picks, this proposed deal we could lose 3, and with our OL do you believe these two acquisitions get us to the Super Bowl ?
The trade of Akers and bringing in D'Ernest Johnson I'm in 100% agreement with.
But Von was a 2nd and 3rd. That’s much more than a 3rd, forth and 6th as proposed here. Plus, Von leaving was a 5th comp back — whereas Chubb is likely a 3rd back. We also paid extra for Von due to having the broncos take on more of his salary. Overall, and I’m not an even a big fan of Chubb, I think that’s a reasonable/acceptable amount to give up for him. Honestly I think it’s light of anything
