Daniel Hardy seems to be that type of player. At 6-foot-3 and 248-pounds, he is neither the biggest nor the most powerful edge rusher. But from what we are learning so far, he may be the most determined. He is one of the hardest hitters in training camp, appears to be a lock to make coverage units on special teams.

Will he earn defensive snaps? He is determined to do exactly that.

I have never understood the 5th rd selection of the 43 DE Ernest Brown...what are your thoughts on that?

Right after the draft I posted that this was my most disappointing pick of the day. My guess is that the Rams were looking for a cheap alternative to Morgan Fox who they let get away for a song. Ernest Brown was never going to be a quality speed rusher from the edge, he just didn't have any. Whether he can hold the edge against the rush is still debatable as he's the only 2021 draftee that wouldn't be called up from the Practice Squad last season. UDFA DE Jonah Williams was called up to the 53, but no E.Brown. When the Rams had seen enough of Williams they waived him and he was picked up by Minnesota, where he promptly failed their physical and was returned to the Rams Practice Squad, ... but still no E.Brown. During the 2018 draft the Rams took John Franklyn-Myers in the 4'th round, I thought he might be projected as a 5TDE, but for unknown reasons he was dismissed after only a single part-time season.
The Rams invest at OLB, but not at DE, although I once anticipated more of a Vic Fangio approach with the position.
The Rams did add 3 UDFA's (Benton Whitley, Keir Thomas, Braydon Thomas) who might get to compete for a DE shot, so those pre-season games will be interesting competition at the position.

If there is such as thing as a gut feeling, then the LA Rams rookie outside linebacker Daniel Hardy is both the cause and the beneficiary this year. There is a bias toward uncovering the positive intrigue about a rookie class at the conclusion of the NFL Draft, and we can be as guilty as anyone for looking for the silver linings with each and every newly selected rookie.

But some rookies have more than ‘on paper,’ positives. Call it a hunch, a gut feeling, a swagger. Whatever you are comfortable with naming that set of unquantifiable qualities that make you feel especially optimistic about a player’s chances. After evaluating his draft profile, we were sold on the young man. And the more we learn about this young man at camp, the more we are convinced that he will break the tradition of redshirting rookies.

He gives his all each day, every day, at practice. He is the outside linebacker whose pads popped loudly enough against TE Kendall Blanton that the sound was heard all over the football field.

Perhaps it’s that stubborn and relentless attitude that triggers that gut feeling. After plenty of years on this planet, I’ve learned never to discount anyone who won’t surrender. I like the jyo part of it. Agree also at the end of the Thomas guys.

The preseason is going to be exciting & that the Bobby Brown PED thing is not a bad thing.

Ernest Brown is looking good though in camp.I’d say to think of M.Brockers as a DE. He has shown good speed on an end side pass rush.
Whitley is also looking good, a long with Chris Garrett.Mcvay didn’t let me have my fun with Chris Garrett against Noteboom.It was weird how that went down.The preseason will give fans a good taste of the talent.
Jonah Williams is on the A- team along with Copeland.They both should get some Preseason games in as starters.

gotta be honest but how can a person tell if a person is 235 or 248 withouta scale? Especially an athlete that is as muscular as Hardy.

Okay then how much does Leonard Floyd weigh ? Justin Hollins is was bigger than I thought.

The Rams have D. Hardy with the OLB group,not the DE group.Brayden Thomas is in that group a long with T. Lewis. -Thad’s group


Kier Thomas is in The big boy group.Eric Henderson has the big guy working hard & a nice rotation.

The defense is moving players in and out all the time.It’s crazy all the talent The Rams have & how this gets broken down.

I can offer Vision from a training camp standpoint.Each practice is different. AD99 was fresh & having fun.Blew up all kinds of plays on Thursday.

Weight/Muscle was a critique but also he was said to be overmatched against bullying physical opponents. He doesn't use his hands enough when he rushes and they aren't violent, lacks multiple moves "technique". I still liked his film and think his weaknesses can be overcome by good coaching and we all know a great motor and determination are excellent edge traits. I think he is going to be fun to watch in pre-season especially if he gets some work against ones and high-level two's

I can’t wait to watch him, to be honest.
If he was pulling off the testing numbers he did at 235… raw or not, I think he would’ve gone higher.
He’s a very exciting prospect.

Who was E.Brown going up against when looking ... 'good' ?

He was lined up on the LDE side.I think it was David Edwards on Wednesday. I know I yelled holding on him & the play kept going for a nice play. He had Wolford nailed if it was live.

He looks a lot faster. A’ Rob was holding him by the jersey on the sideline in between plays on the sideline. He was in Full Leadership & Mentoring mode. Cool to see he is taken over that from when M. Brokers did it for years.

AD99 & Greg Freaking Gaines like playing off or with each other & having fun.AD99 had that Wednesday off though.

One on one’s is fun like the Senior bowl. I wish I had a recorder like BubbaRam sometimes.There is so much going on & moving around to get a view. I remember back in the day I was 3 feet away from Tavon Austin & almost had a banana joke because of crapping the practice before.

They don’t let Fans go across the back way anymore.Then there are a lot of tents for different groups of Fans.

My view point is The Rams want him to be more of a LBer coming off the Edge. He is behind Justin Hollins.
I like Hollins,but during a drill with him he grabbed a his shoulder.Shoulder/Peak? T. Lewis is real big for a OLB & with his knee will never be that pass rushing guy off the edge. He will get his sacks though just not the way Chris Garrett is going to.

That's fair. I wasn't thinking about draft measurements. I assume he didn't go to the combine but did have a pro day.

I saw Bubba say that in one of the camp report threads. I really don't trust people guessing weights, because my personal experience with it is so unreliable. People always think I'm 20-30 pounds lighter than I really am. I developed a thyroid issue while in the army and put on 30 pounds in one month. Not only did no one notice, they all still assumed I was 20 pounds less than my original weight. So when somebody says "that guy doesn't look like he's {insert weight here}" I just ignore it.
