Gurley Good or Michel Lucky?

I am still pretty positive about getting Sony Michel on the Rams for this year, but he has a problem that has been little discussed on this board. Like Gurley, he suffers from an arthritic knee(s). It's not a condition that improves and so all you can do is manage the situation. He and Gurley were both first round picks from Georgia. Unlike Gurley, Michel won a Super Bowl with New England. Gurley was WAY more talented before his issues overcame him. Gurley may be the most physically talented RB we have ever had...albeit for a short period.

Gurley went to a Super Bowl and didn't win it. He probably will never get a shot to do so in the future.
Michel won a Super Bowl. He also could be a lucky guy grabbed for a Super Bowl bound team this year.

Remembering how good Todd was, it doesn't seem fair. Even if his knees were not a problem and his career was a long one, which would you rather be? Good or Lucky? Michele will probably have a short career, but he could have two Super Bowl rings.

Say what you want. Sony was injured & got hot at the right time entering the Playoffs.
As for Gurley it was known, but said to be Unkown by The Rams of his knee issues. CJ Anderson carried the load to the SuperBowl, but Todd Gurley was shot up & ready to go in that 2nd half of the NE game.
I’ll always say it wasn’t Todd Gurley,it was that call on Sullivan. If that call was not made we would be talking about the game a WHOLE lot different.He just crosses the 50 on a 10 yard run & a 1st. Down. Then to bring it back 10 yards. That was a 20 yard difference & loss of downs.

People only remember who won the Super Bowl and the nuances of why a team lost are hardly remembered.

Yeah, really.
We remember that Nolan Cromwell needed to be a foot taller to stop a critical TD in Super Bowl XIV, but no one else does. It was simply another Super Bowl win by the team of the 70's, the Pittsburgh Steelers.

I remember him dropping an interception with the Rams leading in the 3rd quarter and nothing but daylight to stop a pick six.

Michel is a perfect complementary RB. He's the kind of RB you need in a rotation. Henderson can be a HR hitter type of RB who can score from anywhere on the field. Michel is the perfect move the chains kind of RB to get those tough necessary yards. With these two the Rams have exactly what they had in Gurley in his prime. That is what excites me.

Gurley would pound them, then rip their guts out with a big run. Well, Michel will do the grinding, and Henderson the ripping. This offense will have the same type of run attack threat that the Rams had with Gurley. Defenses will have to honor the run threat, no matter which one is on the field. The run attack of the Rams just went back to where they were before Cam got hurt.

People who are saying the Rams paid too much for Michel ignore the fact that he was the Patriot's #1 RB in 2018 when they won the SB. The guy has talent. He's a chain mover, a grinder, the type of RB they didn't have at the position. Now 3rd and 3 and teams can't simply sit on a Stafford pass. What they lost in Gurley and then in Akers was a power runner. It's why Akers separated himself from Henderson. Henderson runs with power, but he's the type of RB you want in short yardage. Until they traded for Michel, that role was probably going to fall on the rookie Funk. With Michel, they now have a power RB.

Is that worth a 4th & a 6th? Absolutely, because they have a RB that can carry the offense for a season if need be. I think Michel is going to be a Ram for a long time. He's not flashy, but he's steady. Also, what is understated is he is who you want as a 3rd down back. He can catch but he definitely needs work on it, that said, more importantly, he's an experienced pass blocker in the backfield.

IMO Funk can be a similar type of RB only faster and a better receiver. If Funk can prove his durability he's got the talent and running style to be a #1 RB. I think that the combination of Michel and Funk could give the Rams what they need at RB for a long time to come. As much as I honestly like Henderson, I simply don't trust his health, he's just too injury prone.

Sean McVay and Stafford.

I DEFINITELY would like to know how that story ends.

Also remember that 2 of our CB's were 5' 9"...Rod Perry and Pat Thomas.....Monte Jackson was 5'11"
 
He won a superbowl all by himself? Impressive.

Nothing to do with being on a team that had won 5 of the last 10 or something before he even got there.

Are you thinking of Rod Perry and the other short Rams CB that just missed tipping a long gamebreaking Steeler TD?

Cromwell dropped a pick 6 in that game IIRC.
