All of these minor trades are making me wonder when the Cardinals will make some trades themselves. Pedro Pages, Ryne Stanek, JoJo Romero, maybe Dustin May, maybe even Riley O'Brien could all have trade value attached to them.
I'm assuming that a lot of them go at the deadline (Stanek and Romero have only one year left on their contracts before free agency, we have an excess of catchers with Pages being the odd man out, and while O'Brien's been absolutely lights out as a closer, he's already thirty-one, his value is likely never going to be higher, and he's had notable injury concerns, while May has another team option on his contract, he's had his own injury and inconsistency issues, and he might return a haul), and possibly even some players I might not expect to get traded might go as well.
Also? I cannot fucking wait for the Draft in July. I know the Cardinals have been playing outstanding thus far, but it's impossible to not be excited with six picks in the top 100. I'm excited to see what they do with all of those picks, and as they've shown, possibly even our later picks as well. We've got one of the highest bonus pools, and there's still a lot of international bonus money that they have left over for more players outside of the U.S.; they left some money on the table for that at the international level, so they can possibly get another Rainiel Rodriguez, a potential late-bloomer.
A bit of irony: they have tentative million-dollar agreements with two fucking thirteen-year-olds at the Dominican academies (apparently high level, but still, thirteen.) It's really being way too much at this point...but then again, the hockey site I'm on has threads in the prospect section on fucking twelve-year-olds, so I guess no sport is really exempt, except possibly football (the actual football, not soccer).
