Brendan Donovan has been dealt to the Seattle Mariners in a three-team trade including the Tampa Bay Rays for a top-100 prospect (Jurrangelo Cijntje - pronounced "Sain-juh, Mariners"), an outfielder who could be a top-100 prospect if he cuts down on the swing-and-miss (Tai Peete, Mariners), a fourth outfielder with decent speed (Colton Ledbetter, Rays) and two Comp B. picks from both the Mariners and Rays (projected at #68 and #72).

I love this trade as a Cardinals fan. Now do JoJo Romero and one of our catchers, see what else you can get, Bloom!

Also, on Cardinals' prospects? Rainiel Rodriguez, a catcher, looks like an absolute stud. He's putting up video game numbers in High-A (.333/.465/.596 with more walks than strikeouts), and he just turned nineteen in January.

I know it's early, but I'm bullish on this kid, and I think he should be promoted to Double-A, even though he'd be super young for that level. Rodriguez has the best hit/power in our system since Oscar Taveras (Walker had/has power, but the hit tool was questionable, while Wetherholt has an elite hit tool but not as much power).

He might end up being a first baseman/third baseman at the next level, but there's a lot to be excited for, and I think he's a potential top ten prospect in the MLB in about a year, especially if he kills Double-A when he gets there.

All of these minor trades are making me wonder when the Cardinals will make some trades themselves. Pedro Pages, Ryne Stanek, JoJo Romero, maybe Dustin May, maybe even Riley O'Brien could all have trade value attached to them.

I'm assuming that a lot of them go at the deadline (Stanek and Romero have only one year left on their contracts before free agency, we have an excess of catchers with Pages being the odd man out, and while O'Brien's been absolutely lights out as a closer, he's already thirty-one, his value is likely never going to be higher, and he's had notable injury concerns, while May has another team option on his contract, he's had his own injury and inconsistency issues, and he might return a haul), and possibly even some players I might not expect to get traded might go as well.

Also? I cannot fucking wait for the Draft in July. I know the Cardinals have been playing outstanding thus far, but it's impossible to not be excited with six picks in the top 100. I'm excited to see what they do with all of those picks, and as they've shown, possibly even our later picks as well. We've got one of the highest bonus pools, and there's still a lot of international bonus money that they have left over for more players outside of the U.S.; they left some money on the table for that at the international level, so they can possibly get another Rainiel Rodriguez, a potential late-bloomer.

A bit of irony: they have tentative million-dollar agreements with two fucking thirteen-year-olds at the Dominican academies (apparently high level, but still, thirteen.) It's really being way too much at this point...but then again, the hockey site I'm on has threads in the prospect section on fucking twelve-year-olds, so I guess no sport is really exempt, except possibly football (the actual football, not soccer).

Joshua Baez (top 100 outfield prospect for the Cardinals) just had himself a four-home run, seven RBI game. Not a week, not even a double-header: one. Fucking. Game.

It's rare that something like that happens. Just needs to learn to cut down on the swing-and-miss.

J.J. Wetherholt with two homers in a win against K.C.! Can you say, "Rookie of the Year"?

Are the starting rotation and bullpen a problem? Absolutely, they are, but with Wetherholt, Walker, Winn, and Ivan Herrera (who is one of the most underrated hitters in baseball, honestly), we actually have some young stars for once!

Add Joshua Baez to the potential star list! He just hit his minor league leading - ALL the minor leagues - twenty-seventh homer!!!

J.J. WETHERHOLT WAS ROBBED! HE SHOULD'VE GONE TO THE ALL-STAR GAME! Best fWAR amongst second basemen in the majors, and he doesn't get to go?!

I bet he'll get robbed of RotY, too. I'm utterly seething.

CARDINALS WITH AN EXCELLENT FIRST DAY OF THE DRAFT!!! I was excited at the Trevor Condon pick, excited for the Tegan Kuhns pick, but then they picked my guy, Rocco Maniscalco, at #50, and I'm absolutely ecstatic!!! And they followed it up with four other interesting picks!

J.J. Wetherholt gets a huge contract extension! Jordan Walker goes to the Home Run Derby and leads the league in RBIs (and we need to re-sign him to a long-term deal)! Ivan Herrera took Shohei Ohtani's place in the All-Star game! Lots of very interesting things going on, especially during the Trade Deadline!

We'll compete with the Dodgers sooner than anyone thinks!

Good luck.

JORDAN WALKER JUST WON THE HOME RUN DERBY!!!!!

PLEASE SIGN THE MAN TO AN EXTENSION, BLOOM!!

Now THAT is funny.

You're not the only team with superstars. We've got some really good players (Walker and Wetherholt, in particular, are absolute studs, Masyn Winn is one of the best defensive shortstops in the game, Ivan Herrera and Alec Burleson are extremely underrated hitters, and Rainiel Rodriguez, a nineteen-year-old catcher who is crushing Double-A, and possibly Joshua Baez, an outfielder who is a top fifty prospect in baseball, could very well join them).

With some savvy trades at the Deadline (and honestly, the 2026 draft was one of the best drafts - thus far - that I've seen the Cardinals have in ages), we very well could compete with the Dodgers sooner than anyone thinks. Not this year, obviously (and I never said it would be this year, just "sooner than anyone thinks", so I don't understand why you find it to be "funny"), but the next few, I could definitely see it, especially if our prospect pitchers (such as Liam Doyle - a top five pick - Jurrangelo Cjintje, Tanner Franklin, Yhoiker Fajardo, and possibly Tegan Kuhns and Brandon Clarke being the main ones, but there's a lot more) hit.

For now? For now, I'll just enjoy the season as it goes along because we're currently playing with house money. Nobody expected us to be this good; as a matter of fact, there were a lot of people who thought we'd be amongst the bottom five. Nobody expected Wetherholt to be the front-runner of Rookie of the Year. Nobody predicted Walker to be an All-Star caliber player (and win the Home Run Derby, for that matter) who could get MVP votes.

Id focus on the teams in the Central before you try to tackle the back to back Champions.

And that will take time, I admit. We're definitely getting there, and it could be sooner than most think (considering where we were in the last offseason, where we sold off a lot of veteran stud players to rebuild the farm, to where we are now: in the thick of a potential playoff berth), though - which was, is, and always has been my point.

As for the Central? Out of all of the teams in the Central, the only team we don't have a winning record against is the Brewers. We're still in the Wild Card race as of now, though (again, when absolutely nobody predicted we'd be anywhere close), so kindly allow me my hope, if you don't mind.

Stick by your team as you have through thick and thin. While I’ll always be a Dodger fan, I respect your hope and dogged fandom for the Cards. If it can’t be the Dodgers, I’m totally good with your team coming out of the dark and enjoying some lime light.

Yeah I have never had any problems with the Cardinals other than they always seem to play the Dodgers tough.

I remember the head to head at one time a few years back was both teams were at 500.

Is it still that close?

Weeeell, there's still the matter of WS rings? It's close and likely getting closer, but the Cards still hold the edge there.

And yeah, we normally play you guys tough. The last regular season games we played against you in our house this year (where Jordan Walker went nuts) are a prime example. We play y'all tough - and we still have three September games against you.

Again, no issues with the Dodgers. Better y'all than a fucking Central team (except the Pirates, whom I just feel terrible for).
