I’m a Baltimore Orioles fan. Arguably the best MLB AL team 1966-1983. Which helped me become an Os fan in early 70s. They haven’t won a World Series since 1983. Which is a drought that makes me forget about their 1966-1983 success. I’m jonesing for a return.
Yep.

Grew up watching the Showtime Lakers own the 1980s. If they hadn't won anything since it would be absurd of me to keep highlighting it nearly 40yrs since the last title.

Like, desparate absurd.

They don't see what they actually look like to the rest of the world.

The World Series between the Orioles and Dodgers in the 60's is what started my Dodger fandom. I was home sick with the mumps at that time. With only 3 stations those days and soaps were all that was on in the afternoons, I decided to watch the games. I chose the Dodgers because they were the California team.

The Orioles swept them but from then on I was a Dodger fan. Which led me to being a Rams fan that year too. I chose the Rams and the Lakers because they were from the same city as the Dodgers. And I grew up in 49er/Giants territory. I was around ten years old. I'm still in 49er/Giants territory today. And its possible we could see two championships in LA a few months apart.

You mean cuz his dad always looked like he needed to take a huge crap?
Now that you mention it...

I remember the first world series I sorta watched between Pittsburgh and Baltimore.

I took a class where I worked in the school library. It was the simplest class I ever took. It took me 5 minutes to put the books away and the rest of the time I had free to myself. Easiest A I ever got too. Anyway - they had a TV in the back room and that's when I watched the Pirates and Orioles play. Those were some really good games. Pirates had Clemente Stargell Sanguien (sp) and few other really good players. And the orioles had Brooks Robinson. Can't really remember the others without looking them up.

Anyway - great series that I was able to watch for an hour and it got me into baseball. And I had to stick with the Dodgers since I grew up in LA.

And glad I did because the Dodgers are the best.

Ah the old days. I shared a house with 3 other guys and one of them was an O's fan who liked to talk shit, especially to this NYY fan. Well, when Pittsburgh went down 3-1 I couldn't take any more so I bet him $20 the Pirates would win. As the games progressed he got quieter and quieter. And you know what happened. LMFAO.

Looking at OTC they show the 49ers number one in cap space this year. Rams are middle of the pack. That might be misleading. 49ers are at 30th in cap space next year. 34 million in the red. They're also the only team in the red for 2028. Rams move to 5th most cap space next year. Of course that will change with the amount of guys they need to re-sign.

49ers have an aging core due a lot of money. An injury prone core at that. The schedule saved them last year. As is they might be a playoff team. Or they might not. But the bill is coming due and it could come crashing down in a year or two. Its not like they hit on all their higher draft picks. And they aren't the Rams when it comes to rebuilding.

This year the cap hits on the big contracts are reasonable. But they jump significantly next year. Even more in 2028. In 3 years Purdy's cap hit will be 71 million. They gonna have to do some restructuring like they did with Williams for several guys. At a time when age starts affecting their play. Warner will be 30 this season. Bosa 29. McCaffrey is already 30. Those are the biggest names aside from Purdy. And their cap hits are coming.

49er fans better enjoy what they have now. Maybe they make the playoffs but they won't go far. But in the next year or two they might be challenging the Cardinals for the cellar spot.

The Dodgers loss to the Orioles was painful for me. Similarly, I came home the year before and the Dodgers were playing the Twins in the World Series. My brother was watching on TV, rooting for the Dodgers. I became a Dodgers fan. The next season I had a new neighbor and friend move in who was from Baltimore. All the family members were big Orioles fans. That 4-0 game whitewash by the birds really stung. It was also my start to picking the Rams as my NFL team.

Wasn't that the series

Wasn't that the series Baltimore pitching gave up a ridiculously low amount of runs. Also the series Willie Davis had 3 errors in 1 inning.

That was a lot of money back in those days for a kid. Close to $100 now I believe.

Dodgers were really a crappy hitting team that year.

If not for Koufax and Drysdale - they would not have been close to making the World Series that year.

I think Drysdale was the best hitter on that team lol.

  • Key Pitching Statistics (ERA)Drysdale had an off year. The Dodgers were speed, defense and pitching. The Orioles had a lot more powera good pitching staff and great fielding. It was the end of the road for Koufax. That was as big a blow as losing the WS. Look at his numbers.

Yeah - arthritis was such a killer in those days.

Koufax was in severe pain each time he pitched that year and he still had an incredible year.

That was a really good Dodger pitching staff even with Drysdale having an off year. And a 3.42 ERA is not that bad too.

IIRC, he gave me odds because the Pirates were down 3-1. It's was my $20 to his $50 (and we weren't kids, though we may have acted like kids!!!) He paid me in Scotch (JW) and Ganja.......which came to A LOT in those days. :laugh4:

Man you must be ancient if you weren't a kid in 1971.
